Great value for the money”
Although the Joy Residence is a little out of the way, it is excellent value for the money you pay. The rooms are clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. In addition, the swimming pool is one of the best on all of Koh Samui for doing laps. It's long, clean and generally not overused. Of course, you should realize that for this price, you're not going to get luxury. There is free Wi-Fi in the building, for instance, but I was lucky to get it working well about half the time I was there. There's also a fitness room, but the equipment is so old that you can't really do much with it. In addition, breakfast at the Joy Residence is quite basic and you do have to pay for it (a reasonable price), but on the plus side, it's pretty tasty and really all you need to get you through the day. The fact that this residence has a lot of repeat customers, many of whom spend their entire time on Koh Samui staying there, is a pretty good testament of what a decent place it is. It's not fancy and conveniently located, but if you're on a budget, it's a pretty hard place to beat.
What a Joy”
Joy residence is a great place to stay! Book it, don't hesitate. Great value for money, near enough to Chaweng and the main attractions of Koh Samui. The rooms are great, with satellite tv, clean, spacious.
Great value hotel”
The Joy Residence is one of my favourite places to stay on Koh Samui. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the place has a "family" atmosphere once you've stayed there a few times and have gotten to know the people. Plus the swimming pool is one of the best on Koh Samui, and it's hard to beat the price you pay for a room. It isn't in the best location, but once you know your way around the island, you'll find it's not in such a bad spot, either.
just wonderful. Great room and lovely and quiet”
I went to thailand to have a total knee replacement on my knees and found the joy residence to be so handy to the the bangkok hospital samui. The room was so nice and clean and so quiet for my stay. All the staff are so nice and I felt I was treated like a King while I was in this place and the hospital and Thailand. Thanks so much everyone
Decent hotel that is excellent value for the money”
the joy residence is not in the most convenient location. it is near the koh samui ring road, which is quite a distance from chaweng beach, and it is not close to any of the ring road conveniences like the tesco shopping mall or the big c. aside from that, however, it is a new, clean hotel that very much has the feel of a big, friendly home. the staff were all super kind and helpful, and the whole place had a laid-back feel to it. there is free wi-fi as well, which is a nice feature for a hotel in this price range. the best part of all, though, is the swimming pool. it's a huge, clean pool that is just the right temperature for swimming or relaxing. and unlike in some samui hotels, you never have the feeling of being crowded in the swimming pool of the joy residence. overall, this is a decent hotel that is hard to beat for the price.
Slight goof-up by the Hotel, but good make up.”
Well, the hotel did a slight goof-up. While I made the booking through AGODA, they did not reserve a room for me. But the staff immediately realised their mistake and apologised for the goof-up. Plus, they gave us a free upgraded room in a nearby better hotel (which was right at the beach). The name is "Joy Residence" but its actually a proper hotel (I had apprehensions). The Hotel seemed really well maintained and nice. I checked the rooms as well and they were clean and spacious. Plus, you would generally face a problem that the people in Thailand seldom speak proper English, but the staff here at Joy Residence spoke quite well. The Price is also really decent for the accommodation provided by them. I guess the only draw back of this Hotel would be that its not on the beach and is a little inland. It would take about 10 minutes to walk down to the beach which I personally would not prefer.
Amazing stay over xmas and new year”
Our stay was amazing. The staff couldn't do more to help. The rooms were fantastic and very very clean. We were only 10 min walk away from main strip in resort which we preferred as friends of our stayed on main strip and found it very noisy. I would definately book again to stay here if returning to Koh Samui. Fully recommend you stay here
new and clean”
its hard to describe Joy Residence. It is located pretty far from anything . you can walk to the beach, but it will take you around 20 minutes. while i didn't like the location , the staff were friendly although the english was the worst i came across. The pool area was nice, and the restaurant was used by us alot...due to the good quality of the food and the fact that getting out of the hotel isn't so easy
Nice hotel, nice pool, location not great”
the joy residence is a bit out of the way, i.e 15 or 20 mins to the middle of chaweng road where most of the bars are etc and the same to the beach. if you rent a bike its perfect though. nice big pool, breakfast is ok. rooms are nice with balcony and aic-con and the best tv channels we had in thiland, with 3 good movie channels. i would recommend this hotel as a good budget option and if you want to get a bike also. staff are helpful enough as well.
Not so good location but really great hotel”
We really enjoyed staying in this hotel where the staff was very friendly. They have a big pool in beautifully decorated backyard. New fitness room. The breakfast was included. Restaurant near the pool served really good thai food and the prices were really good. Really missing this now ;) We stayed there for 5 days and will come back if we go to Ko Samui another time.
Perfect hotel for a quiet getaway”
we loved our stay. located in the back streets of chaweng but walking distance to the beach and main drag. the hardest part was finding it on the first day, since we tried walking with our bags but one of the main roads was all muddy and couldn't pass through. once we found it we were very impressed, aree at reception was so lovely and helpful and we practically had the place to ourselves!! great great great pool, modern gym, excellent free wifi, great a/c in the room- if you're looking for quiet, you'll find it here!!
Great size clean rooms, friendly staff, free wifi”
i was only due to stay here 2nights & stay 7. the staff are very friendly & extremely helpful. location is close enough to everything but in a quiet area which was fantastic for me as i wanted to relax & chill but could easily get to the busy restaurant filled streets. i would highly recommend this hotel for those people who like samui but don't want to be in the midst of all the tourists. there is a great size pool & for those who wish to keep fit there is a nice size gym with modern equipment to use. free wifi is available throughout the hotel.
Hotel overbooked, but great customer service”
I booked late afternoon for a 2-night stay, but upon arrival the hotel was overbooked. Service was great and they moved me to another hotel right on Chaweng beach for my entire stay (worth double the room rate I later found out!) and offered me free transportation to Samui Hospital the next day which was the original reason for my stay. So whilst I cannot comment on Joy Residence as such, their customer service was amazing.
Big rooms, Ok location”
when we arrived at the hotel the front desk did not speak any english. so i told him in my horrible thai to get the manager because we had a reservation. the manager was off duty, but she walked form her house to the hotel (5min) to talk to us. we showed her our agoda reservation. she apologized for the hotel being full, said it was their mistake and she put up for the night in a beachfront hotel that they owned. we did not like this hotel, but is was a place to sleep. she provided transport back to her hotel the next day and got us checked into our room. we had a family room which would lead to think it may be two bedrooms, the the second bedroom was just the livingroom with two mattresses on the floor. the hotel had an ant problem as well, so if you left anything out they would come after it. also, they seemed to have very few pool towels, and were usually out when we asked for some. the breakfast, however, was made to order and very good. it seemed the the only person that spoke english in the hotel was the manager. she assisted us with get transportation at good prices and was a big help throughout our stay. she gave us a little compensation for not having our room on the first day and offer us two free days if we come aback again. we had an ok stay at the hotel, but we think you can get better hotel for the same price if you look. also the hotel about 15-20 walk from the beach. the closest beach is the southern part the chaweng and during our stay the waves were quite big. if you can get the the northern part of the beach they have a barrier so the waves are more suitable more children.
it s a residence and not an hotel; all been ok, very clean and staff kind; nice swimming pool, room very nice but not many channel tv, but ok for me. never ate here food so i cant say how food taste. location is not in center chaweng road but it s on main road, so it need transportation to move in center or beach; i rented motorbike. by the way i liked all.
it s a nice residence with nice room and staff is kind; need rent motorbike or take tuk tuk to move coz it s not on central chaweng road; swimmming pool very nice, breakfast too. i will back
this was a very good hotel, which we found the staff helpful and friendly, the manageress also gave us her phone number (mobile) if there was any thing we needed. swimming pool awsome, food very good and reasonable price too. the breakfast was good and we were even told they would open up earlier as we had a trip booked quite early, but we declined. the hotel is off the main drag for tourists, but that was a bonus as it was quiet. Reastaurants were all on the main drag ( if you wanted the "rose and crown" type of euro pubs and food outlets")and some nice thai outlets but at least a 15 minute walk or a cheap tuk tuk ride.
Good residence, clean and huge pool”
everything is really ok, big pool, good gym and location chaweng close to the party. only bad thing is the very unreliable internet. and there could be more tv channels, only 7 non-thai.
First off I booked the room because of the great price and the location, but the hotel was extremely nice and the staff was awesome. It isn't right on the beach, but if you don't want loud music keeping you up all night it's a perfect location. The wifi was a lot faster then I expected, and the hospitality extended by the staff was amazing.
Really nice place”
We stayed at Joy as both my husband and I had Dengue fever, so we needed to be near the hospital for daily blood tests. The hotel was clean and quiet, which was exactly what we both needed. The swimming pool looked great, but we were too ill to use it.
