Review is for Island Pavilion as they put us up there”
Prompt correspondence post booking. Ibrahim and his colleague met us at the jetty and took us to Island Pavilion which they has newly acquired. Lovely clean sea view room. Good wifi. Polite and friendly staff. One night we suddenly decided to have dinner at the beach and they put up a table with lovely candles etc even though it was a last minute request. Tasty dinner too. Amazing snorkelling from the beach right opposite the guesthouse.
nice little island with a nice friendly community”
everything pretty nice there but Agoda let us down with a refound caused by a unavailable transportation option on the day we wanted to leave the island
khách sạn ok”
di chuyển về ks có phà nên dễ dàng, bãi tắm cách xa nên phải đi bộ 1 đoạn, ăn sáng ok, nhân viên cực kỳ nhiệt tình. Ấn tượng nhân viên lắm.
Great place to stay in Haggnaameedhoo”
We stayed for 5 nights and enjoy our stay. Big room nice and clean. The staff is very nice friendly and helpful.
Great little place for a great price”
The owner was really kind and made us feel very welcome. There is a beautiful beach on the island and it is a great way to stay in the Maldives locally if you want to see how the local people live.
Ideal picture of holiday in Maldives”
We loved the island. Absolutely amazing! It has everything what identifies a paradise. Gesthouse is really nice place for staying, not a luxury but defo worth the price. We have to take a bow for Hussain and the Team for the greatest hospitality they gave us. There were a moments when we indeed “felt like a king” ! Thanks so much guys :)
Great place made my trip wonderful”
When we arrive, someone from hotel waiting us in jetty! (unexpected!), and they help us carry our luggage to hotel and check us in. They are kind and bring us to bikini beach snorkeling around the area. For meal, please order in advance so they can have time to prepare it. It took few hours! Same as other cafe in this island, usually a long wait. many shops around this island and price are reasonable. no worry about food and drink, but need avoid their prayer time. I specially requested them to get me a big lobster (~1kg), price are reasonable. Their dive shop are not yet ready whn i visit, and dive shop in neighbour no instructor. They have pricelist and never told me until i was there. Please re-confirm with them on the date you plan to make sure you able to dive. I failed to do any dive here during my 3 night here. There is no ATM machine on this island and they don't accept cards. only EUR, MVR and USD.
Great little guesthouse in beautiful island”
We really enjoyed staying here and even extended our visit. The island is very calm and we really enjoyed snorkeling every day in the island reef. Don't expect a fancy or touristy place, but this is exactly what we were looking for: a calm local island where people live almost undisturbed by tourism. If you want man-made entertainment, go to Maafushi island or a resort. If you want nature and relating with the locals, this island is a really good option.
Loved my stay”
We (me and 2 other friends) went during March. I am really satisfied with the beach view and snorkeling experience. I had a great stay. This place is value for your money for low budget stay. There are many interesting packages that the hotel offers (manta ray watch, underwater restaurant lunch depending on the availability, sand banks etc). Maldives is one of those beautiful travel destinations where mother nature has still been preserved. I did some island hopping. In my experience except for the fanciness or services of the expensive resorts, any island in Maldives is the same. The habitat is so healthy that you can literally see the fish near the bay visibly. You can see a lot of colorful fishe, squids. ray fish and tip reef sharks. worth the stay. Thank you.
Jennie and Michael from Denmark”
Nice and very cozy place with just six rooms. Great to have (and help to prepare) your breakfast together with other people from all over the world. Fantastic and very helpful staff, especially manager Édam, who took really good care of us and arranged some very fine excursions to small uninhabited islands and sand banks - and a fantastic trip where we were lucky to get the chance to snorkel with manta rays. Nice rooms at a reasonable price and beautiful outdoor areas in a lush green garden. Fine "bikini beach" with parasols, shade sails and sun beds for free. And best of all: a great snorkeling at the beautiful reef easily accessible from the beach and where we - besides all the colorful fish in all patterns and shapes - also saw sea turtles, reef sharks, rays, barracudas, octopuses and squids . Yes, Kalaafaanu Retreat on the island Hangnaameedhoo are highly recommended if you want an exciting trip to Maldives with the possibility of also meeting the local population at the small cafes, restaurants and shops round the island.
For Budget Travellers”
Kalaafaanu retreat is suitable for those who are traveling on a Budget. Edam received us the the pier once we arrived at the island. Room and toilet are clean however the common areas are filled with many mosquitos. The wifi connection is strong and stable. Food was ok, they are quite generous with their portions. However you should order your food 1.5 hours before as it will take quite some time for them to prepare. Edam was not around most of the time and it is hard to communicate with some of the other staffs as they do not speak/understand English. There isn't not much to do on the island itself. We went for a snorkelling trip 60usd per pax (3 spots; which included the house reef) but we are not impressed but House reef is ok.
PERFECT SPOT to experience real Maldives for a low price”
We were so impressed with Kalaafaanu - definitely our best stay ever! The island is about 1.5h away from Male with speed boat ($25 per person) or 6h by local ferry ($5 per person) - we took both, one each way, worth the experience, although we would recommend speed boat to save time as the island is worth every second spent on it. The island is rich with sea life, you'll have the chance to see colourful tropical fish, mantas and turtles while exploring the reefs which are truly stunning. The reefs are easily accessed, just follow a sand path in the sea - suitable even for beginner snorkles. The staff also organise great trips, such as manta and whale shark discoveries and picnic islands - worth a visit as the islands are truly beautiful, something you'd see on the postcards. You can also take a ferry for about $2 to Obadu which has a really beautiful beach (no bikini though), although the reef is better near Kalaafaanu retreat. There is a bikini beach facing West so you'll be able to see the most amazing sunsets every evening. Also recommend you to go see the sunrise! Staff - they truly know the meaning of good customer service. They were extremely kind, helpful, and always willing to anwer our numerous questions. Edam organised all the tours and activities so big thanks to him for making it all very special. He was very adaptive and flexible and took care of our trips. He has impressive knowledge of the islands so it was really good to talk to him. A very happy and positive person - the same goes for Enji (not sure how to write his name) and all staff (unfortunately we are really bad with names). We were there for the New Years' Eve and all the resorts together organised a party at the local restaurant - absolutely amazing food (curries, pasta, fish, chicken, lamb, fresh fruit and different desserts), with local musicians playing on drums and therefore presenting us the local culture. Many thanks also to Bandi who was in training but was basically our walking enc
Great Stay at Kalaafaanu Retreat”
The guesthouse was comfortable and spacious. We had clean towels and though toiletries were not provided, we could get them easily from the local shops. We were also given free flow of coffee, tea and water. This was much appreciated. We could order our meals a few hours ahead at the guesthouse which were very affordable (spent about USD 60 for 5 of us per meal). We also made arrangements easily to go for day outings to see manta ray, whale sharks and snorkeling (though the whale shark was difficult spot and only lasted 1 or 2 minutes!). On the whole, Adam looked after us well. When they cancelled the speed boat ferry due to engine problems, he made sure an alternate speed boat ferry was arranged for us to go back to Male to catch our flight home. We would certainly consider returning in future.
the best place in ari atol. we enjoy it. Adam is really helpfull and do everthing to make people happy. house is close to the beach and reef!
Kalafaanu resort is really nice place. Our room was clean, pretty new and fully equipment. Staff of Guest House extremly helpfull and kind people. A lot of facultative trips to choose. Island quite small with separate beach for tourist. Breakfast different as you wish, onlette sausages etc. I deffenitely recommend this GH. Mateusz
Best holidays ever!”
Our eigth nights stay in Kalaafaanu Retreat was in our opinion best choice for comfortable rest. Clean, air conditioned, spacious rooms with good wi-fi. Tasty food (grilled reef fish, my favourite!), very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel is located on peaceful island within 2 minutes walk to the beach. I totally recommend Kalaafaanu for snorkeling fans- Hangnaameedhoo has one of most beautiful reefs we've ever seen and it's just in front the bikini beach. If that's not enough hotel staff can take you for snorkeling safari or manta ray sightseeing. They know the best spots and hours to observe colourful sea life (fishes, squids, turtles, mantas, dolphins even sharks!) on other nearly located reefs. Other impressive things are sunset and full moon over the ocean, but that one needs to see by the very own eyes. We've been there just before the season's beginning, so we were the only tourists on island, people living there were very nice to us - helpful yet not obtrusive. We really enjoyed stay at this hotel and definitely will come back!.
We enjoyed our stayed. Many tks to Edam, Zaid etc. :)
Good but could be better”
I Book for 3 nights here, amazingly I never actually stay in their place, for 2 nights they arrange me to other island, place is good, mad at first, but I can see other traveller who wish to see whale shark and I luckily can swim with dolphins and whale shark. On the last night, they brought me to their Island (Hangnaamedoo) but on other guest house (with better place) so I'm not angry, but i feel little bit regret, their House coral reef is awesome, during snorkling you can see many fish, even sharks! So bad I got overbooked issue, definetely someday I want to return here, they said they will expand the rooms with new building near the beach, so if without any overbook, this place is good, they have their own boat, transfer is easy, you can choose public ferry 5 USD (but 5 hours) or speedboat ferry 25USD (1,5 hours). The staff is great, and you can find the owner at facebook.
I recommend Kalaafaanu Retreat”
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Kalaafaanu Retreat. We were met from the ferry boat by smiling friendly staff who took our bags back to the accommodation. We were made welcome as soon as we got to the guest house with drinks and refreshing cool towels. We rented two rooms for our family (two adults & two children age 13 & 9)this worked well for us. The rooms were clean with good furniture. They had fans and air conditioning. The Staff: Adam and Sanjid were very polite and friendly. The food was reasonably priced at approx. £30 for dinner for four people with a dessert. There was a good selection of meals which we enjoyed. There are also local shops on the island where you can purchase food for snacks and lunch. Great place with a lovely reef to snorkel in a good selection of marine fish, you can swim outside the reef over the drop off and drift around in the current looking over the edge. A nice private bikini beach only a few minutes walk away. Kalaafaanu retreat also offer trips out from the island, we snorkelled with Manta Rays a brilliant experience. I am happy to recommend this place to anyone, good value for money with friendly staff to help whatever you require. A great opportunity to go to the Maldives for less than the hotel islands charge. You do need to respect the local people and cover up when wandering around the island this was no problem for us as the sun is so strong here we needed to cover up to avoid being sunburnt.
