Like home”
Really great place to stay, it felt like home. Great and helpful employees. Amazing rooftop to chill out and meet other travelers. Goo A little bit far from the city center but you could still get there within 30 minutes or get a tuktuk.

Decent facilities a little while out of town”
We didn't stay and party at the hostel as we had an early trip when we left but heard the vibe was great. Facilities were ok and the staff were helpful and friendly, always looking out for travellers interests. I'd probably stay here again!

Not a bad spot”
Nice staff, located a little ways from kandy, about 30 minute walk into town, about the same from the train station, which is okay for a short stay I guess. fairly helpful staff and good facilities, nice roof top common area. Mediocre value

City hostels .. a good chain on hostels”
Simplicity of staff and hostel, cleaniness, ease of doing business
My stay at Kandy City hostel was good. I changed my date of arrival just over a phone call and without any hassle. Beds and Bathrooms were clean. On the day of arrival the hostel manager organized a promotional BBQ party which was awesome. The overall environment of the hostel was peaceful and quiet. The hostel was slightly pricy though.

A bed in Kandy”
great place to meet people
The hostel location can be tricky to find, it's located up a long narrow and winding road, which I didn't feel safe walking after dark. The hostel doesn't have clear signage, which the manager explained was a security feature, though other area hotels/guesthouses are clearly marked. The location is a 25 min walk from the temple of the tooth or other Kandy area attractions, or a 200-300 rupees tuk tuk or 13 rupee bus ride. The housekeeper was very hard working and tried to keep everything clean and tidy. The manager was new to the area and could only provide basic information from tour guides rather then local experience.

Very friendly, helpful staff in a nice open hostel makes a nice environment to talk to other travelers. It's mostly cold showers which is fine if the weathers hot.

Good value, fun stay”
Value, friendly staff, location
I really enjoyed my stay here, largely due to the friendly staff who made me feel at home. Location is a short walk or cheap tuktuk to Kandy Lake. Rooms are clean--no ac but each bunk has a personal fan which was sufficient.

Very noisy room in an average hostel!”
Very friendly staff members, nice hangouts on their rooftop terrace and the lovely hostel dog.
The Kandy city hostel seems to be a clean average hostel at first sight and the staff provides a warm welcome. However we booked the only double room in the hostel, which was facing the main road. As the traffic is incredibly loud in Sri Lanka it was impossible to sleep before 1am and 4.30am! Also there is no airconditioning or fan in the room, which is absolute nonsense in this hot and dry region (remember: you also cannot open the window because of the noise!). The "breakfast included" consists of bread, butter and jam, which you have to tale out of the fridge yourself and prepare it on your own! We booked to nights, butl left after the first. There are many better alternatives in Kandy in the same price range.

Good Youth Hostel”
central location, wi-fi & value for money
We stayed in the double room for one night. The hostel is well located, clean and with the fastest wifi we had in Sri Lanka. The only negative is the fact that some of the rooms (including the double) are located at the front of the building above a fairly busy road (Sri Lankans love to use their horn when driving) so earplugs are advised! The bread and sweet rolls from the bakery at the Devon hotel 5 minutes walk down the road were great for breakfast!

Looks like you're in "The Real World" show!”
Staff, company and Ciara!
KCH is a very modern hostel, comfortable and clean! Anna's a great host/staff, very helpful and laidback. Security is good, there's a Ciara the doggy and a local guy who would open the door when you came in late at night or if you had to leave in the morning. Very clean rooms... pillow cover, bedsheet and mosquito net provided. Lockers provided in room, bring your own lock or get one for a deposit of 200R. Definitely will come back if I'm in Kandy again! Tip-bits: Wear long pants/sweaters/socks/use a towel at night,Kandy can get quite cold at night. No hot water unless there's some sun in the day Free bread, butter and supplies on first shelf in fridge Complimenary tea/coffee/sugar in the pantry

Overall a good stay”
Good value for money, clean rooms & amazing dog.
Overall, it was a good stay and I would recommend this place. We booked a double room with private bathroom but it wasn't private at all and there wasn't any hot water in that bathroom. The only hot showers are located behind the kitchen. So if you are a couple and you want some privacy, you may want to choose another place to stay. It didn't bother us that much but I can imagine some people could be a bit disappointed. Also, I did see a cockroach in the kitchen on one of the counter tops, it's probably mainly because different people leave their food on the shelves rather than in the fridge but hey: it's Asia. Even in 5 start hotels you can see them! Now good things: girls running the hostel are friendly although they have not been there for long and they may not necessarily give you the best info. For example we asked for a price of taxi or private car to go to Sigiriya and Dambulla and the price they told us was way much higher to what we've paid. I would probably suggest to go into town and ask around. They also try to organise some social evenings which is always a good thing. In my opinion, the location is good. It's close to the lake and it's a bit on a hill which I found very good. Kandy town centre is very busy and smoggy! Hostel is clean, you can do your washing (you have to pay for it) and the break-out area is pretty cool (inside and outside). It's good value for money and I would probably stay in this place again, although I must say Kandy was my least favorite place in Sri Lanka.

This should be the gold standard of every hostel”
Awesome staff, new and chic interiors, adorable hostel dog
I love this place! It's the perfect place to recharge your travel spirit, meet fellow travellers, as well as market and Anna, the lovely girls who are running the place. Friendly backpacker atmosphere, fun rooftop parties and a full kitchen where guests can cook. The hostel dog Ciara is so gentle and adorable, you just want to hug her all day! She never barks and is very friendly. A bit of a walk to anywhere though, but manageable for daily trips to town. Buses are easily available. The staff and hostel owners and everyone are very helpful and accommodating, this is not just a business for them but a passion. Everyone heading to kandy should stay a few nights here!
