Great!”

I've been telling all my friends to stay here. Though it's a hostel you can choose to keep to yourself and it's very quiet inside too. Kangaroo Hotel is a pretty long walk from JR Asakusa Station (definitely over 20min) and going there at night is really dark and there's no one on the streets. Check in was very fast and convenient and the bed is so comfortable!

Good price, Nice location, Supermarket nearby, Relaxing Bath”

The place is very clean and comfortable. However, some problems may arise if you are going to check-in during the night. As the door are locked during the night (probably 22:00 PM onward), you might have some problem unlocking it. If you book the room with bunked-bed, the bottom-one might be a little bit too cold in winter (as the heater is installed near the ceiling, and hot air rises, and the cold one sink). Apart from some complication checking-in and the coldness of the room in winter, the low price despite being in the heart of tokyo have won my recommendation. The place is near Asakusa, so you will never run out of place to go. And if you are hungry, the supermarket nearby will be your savior (If you go there after 21:00-22:00, you might get some discounted convenience store food [bento] at half price!). The bathtub is free for access also. This place is a 9.5/10 for me!

Much better than I thought”

My first time trying a "hostel" style place. Am very impressed and would definitely stay at Kangaroo Hotel again the next time I'm at Tokyo. Very clean with wonderful amenities. Though shower and all are shared, there are sufficient bathrooms for all to use and really clean. Only thing is that it is a bit of a walk to the JR station.

Affordable and good to stay!”

English Speaking Staff,Very helpful and friendly staff & affordable hotel in tokyo

Hotel is within 10~15 minutes walk from Minami-Senju Station. Accommodation wise; Room has a small TV, an air-con, refrigerator and has futon for its bed. Room would be considered small for 2 people, but definitely still doable with luggages squeezing at the foot of our beds. Bathrooms are located on the first level and every level has a shared toilet with 2 cubicles, making it convenient. Hotel staffs are very friendly and kind to advise you around the area of Asakusa. Been there for 12 nights and It's also very close to supermarkets and convenience stores as well. Overall it was a great hotel with a very affordable price! 5 stars!

Good Price for Tokyo, Farther than Usual to Subway”

For the privacy, room size, and facilities, Kangaroo is the go to for travelers who want to get the best bang for the buck on a limited budget. However it is a 1.2km walk from the subway station with 1-2 convenience stores on the way, which is consider far since Tokyo is not a giant city. Also, if you like to be with all your luggage 24/7, there're only narrow stairs going up to the rooms so you'll most likely have to leave them downstairs. But, reception is awesome nice and was very ready to help with what I need(except luggage hauling of course).

nice and cosy stay”

Cheap, Bicycle rental, and friendly staff

I really liked my stay in the Kangaroo Hotel. I especially liked the bicycle rental, which made accessing much of Tokyo much more accessible. The LAN internet works, the wifi is a bit spotty, and there is a personal small fridge in the room, plus control of the temperature within the room. The individual showers and bath in the first floor was also quite nice. The place was exactly what I was looking for, and I would recommend this hotel for the traveller who is comfortable with navigating the city with the help of a bicycle.

Great stay, but 15 mins away from subway”

Design, comfort, and service

It is really quite a walk from Minami-Senju station. And one will probably get lost without a good sense of direction. However, the place is value-for-money and one of the cheapest place around town. Furthermore, the hotel is well-designed and Kangaroo Hotel is expanding (a new building under construction opposite the current one) to serve more budget travelers such as myself. Additionally, Minami-Senju has subway access to both JR and Tokyo Metro, and is a short journey from Nippori that connects you to Narita Airport 45mins away.

historical and traditional place to stay”

cozy environment, reasonable price, and friendly people

It was really nice experience to stay at Kangaroo Hotel for 5 nights. The hotel is near Minami-senju station which is closed to Ueno and Asakusa for touring, just few stops can get to there. The hotel is stylish and very comfortable room, but a little bit small, nice shower and bathroom, also you can do laundry there. Less than 10 minutes by walking to the Minami-senju station, that is not so far or you can rent a bike at the hotel for 500 yen per day, which is quite cheap and very useful and convenient. It's a very high C/P value hotel for people who don'n have high budget. Kangaroo is a great choice!

Friendly, stylish, compact hotel, outskirts of city”

Very well designed, clean, space, affordable

the hotel was priced at the hostel range, but you have the privacy of your own room. the hotel is very well designed, and well maintained. you are able to leave and enter the hotel 24/7 with a personal key. there's a grocery store nearby to purchase affordable meals. however, there's a soup kitchen nearby so there are a lot of homeless men wandering the streets, but they are not threatening. location is a little out of the way...but close enough to ueno, asakusa and akihabara to make it tolerable. you can rent bikes from them as well for about yen a day.

Stylish but a bit remote from railway/metro”

Stylish furnished budget hotel with enthusiastic reception

Good taste of interior design, small but cozy room, easily connected to the Internet by wifi or LAN, these are all good things about Kangaroo Hotel. However, there are few disadvantages I would like to mention. First is the lounge closed too early (11:00PM), but it's more likely because of their location in residential area. Second, staff seems to be not enough for their daily work, I could hardly find staff many times. Last but not least, some tiny trash is left in corners hard to be seen in toilet and shower room. Overall it's a great experience staying in Kangaroo Hotel. BTW, it'll be great to rent the bike from them to see around the old Tokyo.

Comfortable and affordable”

Fast free wifi, comfortable bed, fridge in room

The kangaroo is a great little place, when you walk in you have to take off your shoes and get into slipper (like everywhere in Japan) and then you check in (sometimes by yourself as the desk is not always staffed). Theres 2 private showers downstairs and also a bath room, all include shampoo, conditioner and body soap, and also ear cleaners. Theres also a coin laundry and a vending machine downstairs. On each floor theres 2 toilets and about 2 or 3 sinks and a mirror. Theres also a kettle/boiler for hot water and a microwave. The rooms are nicely fitted with TV, fridge and a small wardrobe and comfortable bed. The wifi was quite fast and reliable and all the facilities were clean. The front door locks at 11pm but on your room key keyring you also get a front door key, so its basically 24/h. The neighbourhood is pretty safe and quiet although a couple of streets down I noticed rather a lot of people who seemed to be homeless or living in the streets and/or drunk, but there was a police station just about 50 meters away from them so I never felt unsafe. Theres also several convenience stores around most 24/7 and also a non 24/h supermarket. The only bad thing I can say about this place was that there was no filtered cold water dispenser, I think you are able to drink Tokyo tap water okay but I would have liked a cold water dispenser somewhere.

Clean/ Comfortable Room with modern interior design

Well located in a serene area of Asakusa. 10-15 minutes walk from JR (minamisenju station). The room size is very very tiny like most rooms in Tokyo with the room rate which is affordable budget for backpackers like us. The share bathrooms are kept clean all day long and decoration of public facilities is stylish. The staff in charge is still young but very friendly. There are few mini marts located nearby so it is very convenience to get drinks & snacks. We really love the cleanliness and the interior design of this hostel. No complaints at all. If you are a budget traveller and you just want to have a clean room where you can sleep and put your things while roaming in Tokyo Japan this is a perfect place for you. Shared shower and toilet, but very clean nothing to worry about it no need to bring soap, shampoo and conditioner. With super fast WiFi 10mins walk to Minami Senju Station. 1 block away from main road. Theres a lot of grocery where you can buy everything including budget meals. Stayed for 5 days. I will book this again if I will be back in Tokyo Japan again.
