Excellent Hotel”
Enjoy our stay during 13-15/01/2015 very much! Clean, tidy & bright spacious room fully equipped with all necessary items. (Except hair dryer, suggested to include it inside the room for guest convenient) Location is excellent, clock tower is just a fews step in front of the hotel, you can find a lot of eateries, massage shop, pub around. And the bus terminal, 7-11, boots and night bazaar is within 10 minutes walking distance. Friendly and helpful staffs, especially the front desk lovely lady. Provided us many useful information on tourist attractions. Kanlaya Place is definitely being our first choice in our next visit to Chiang Rai.

An absolute gem”
After a long trip from Laos this place was just what I needed. Very friendly new management (Scotsman and his Thai wife). Couldn't have been more friendly, helped me book a bus for the next day and gave me recommendations about the vicinity. Chiang Rai is lovely, very pretty, peaceful and friendly. The superior room was spot on, so clean, wonderful bed, great shower and bathroom. Just what I needed after a 15 hour journey by boat and bus. This hotel was the best value for money I've had on my asia travels. Thank you kanlaya, keep up the good work

Great little hotel in a fabulous location.”
I've stayed in Chiang Rai many times and had seen this hotel in passing, so when the opportunity arose I grabbed it, and I'm so glad I did. It's in a great location, about 50 metres from the clock tower and at the top end of Jet Yod Road, so you can walk the bars, to the Night Bazaar and the Saturday Walking Street with ease. There is limited off street parking available. On arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a delightful surprise. Very comfortable, it had everything you could want. It was a good size without being palatial, and the bathroom was lovely and bright. The bed was super comfortable and the sheets crisp and white. Breakfast is help yourself to coffee etc and bread for toasting so don't get excited by that, but if you want something more substantial you're within an easy stroll of countless cheap eateries. It's not the cheapest hotel in town, but it certainly delivers on the extra baht in terms of creature comforts and accessibility. If it were my place I'd almost feel unashamed to call it a Boutique Hotel.

Small Personable Place to Stay”
While out and about all the time while visiting Chiang Rai the room was comfortable, clean and a small breakfast was provided each day. That was a surprise as it was not mentioned in the room rate when I booked through Agoda. Kanlaya Place have drinks for sale and have a couple of outdoor areas for you to enjoy.

Comfortable place with good price”
The hotel is nicely decorated. Staff is very friendly. When we were waiting for my friendly in the lobby, they are very willing to talk to you and give suggestions on Chiang Rai attractions. Coffee, tea and bread were provided as breakfast. Hotel is located at a convenient place with 5-10 min walk to night bazaar. Overall, this is a good hotel with a very reasonable price.

Charming little guest house with great staff”
A charming little guesthouse in a good location with pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. Less than a minutes walk from the elaborate clock tower with lots of casual eating options available just outside. The rooms are quite new and a well appointed and good bathroom for the price range. Rooms are cleaned very well each day. A simple self catering breakfast of toast with jam, tea or coffee and bananas is available and the foyer area is very comfortable, for eating breakfast or as an area to sit at other times. Despite the main bar area being just outside the hotel, it was reasonably quiet. The street is a main tourist area so it does lack the local feel that other areas in Chiang Rai have.

Good convenient clean hotel”
We only stayed one night on the way to Phu Chi Fa mountain. But was great as we arrived late and could walk straight to the night market for food and shopping/atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were perfect for the price, with very comfortable beds and a nice shower. Couldnt ask for more for budget accommodation. Not a healthy breakfast but there was unlimited tea or coffee and toast. The next morning it was 5 minutes walk to the bus station, ideal location if spending a short time in Chiang Rai.

cosy home away from home feel”
The room was a good size, and had everything you could want for a short stay. Comfortable bed, the shower was only warm at best so in the winter time may not satisfy, maybe it's just this room? Breakfast is included, but only coffee, tea and toast but enough to power you out to the world of street foods which waits just around the corner. It's at the top end of the "bar street" and 50 metres from the clock tower so it's handy to everything and the staff are great. Parking for cars is very limited, you can squeeze two onto the driveway and close the gates, but this is a consideration if you're driving. Otherwise it's well worth considering this for you base in Chiang Rai.

Hotel right by clock tower”
Kanlaya place is a clean hotel with convenient spacious rooms, comfy bed, fridge… everything we needed in a room (a safe would be appreciated). It is right by the clock tower and within walking distance from the night market. However, it is also right next to some bars, and the loud music, noise, and screams and giggles from our drunk neighbors didn’t allow us to enjoy that comfy bed so much. As a town, Chiang Rai is not that interesting, it’s the nature around that brings out the beauty, so if we ever go back to Chiang Rai, we’d stay in a not so central hotel.

Small hotel with good location”
The Kanlaya is a small hotel with a great location and easy access to the night market (around the old clock tower), the bus station and near by night shopping and food area) and you can can hear the chimes from the large golden clock tower that is less than 100 metres away. Lots of local eating options and a 7-Eleven withing a few minutes walk. While not expensive, it is only average value for the price, compared to other similar sized cities in Thailand. There is a larger type refrigerator, adequate AC, a desk with 2 chairs and a sparsely equipped bathroom (no hand basin surround or anywhere to place you toiletries). The cable TV options have improved since my last stay in February 2017 The breakfast is just toast with jam, tea or coffee, juice and a banana - adequate but not great.

Great Chiang Rai city center base for city explorations”
This is a great little spot that is solid for a private room/private bathroom place right between the clocktower and Jed Wot Yod temple on Jed Wot Yod Road. There are a lot of food options and coffee spots within walking distance, as well as massage places, pharmacies, 7-11's, scooter rentals, and ATM's. Hill Tribe Museum is about a 10 minute walk. Night Bazaar is maybe a 5 minute walk and Saturday Walking Street market is right by the Hill Tribe Museum. White Temple is about a 20 minute tuk tuk ride - runs around 150-200 baht. This is a no frills spot, but the bed and bedding is comfy and clean and there is a hot water shower and plenty of space in the room to spread out with countertops and a refrigerator and good wifi. I never used the TV personally, but they were putting in cable while I was there, so TV as well. And air conditioning. The breakfast that comes included is sparse - just toast and bananas, instant coffee, tea and juice, but there are plenty of breakfast places and coffee shops right around if you want more. There are some bars right in the area so you will hear music until maybe 12am-ish. You will also hear the clock tower in the evenings. Neither the music nor the clock tower bothered me at all. The staff was VERY helpful to me and very friendly and I briefly met the owner who was very nice and helpful as well. It was perfect for having a great home base to explore the city from, and I walked everywhere except the White Temple and felt completely comfortable. Loved it and would return.

A friendly hotel with good location”
The hotel seems to be more like a guesthouse in terms of its looking. But the room is very spacious and clean. The receptionist greeted me and did my check-in very fast after I filled in a simple form. Besides, it's only 1 minute walk to the Clock Tower, which changes its color at night! A few pubs in town are just located across the small road, where mostly Westerns are hanging out there. With around 10-15 minutes walk, you can go to major locations such as the coach terminal (for bus to Chiang Mai or Bangkok, or other major Thai cities), night bazzar, etc. Oh, the simply breakfast starting from 7 am is a good fuel if you are leaving in the morning, with tea and instant coffee served. All in all, although it's a simple hotel, I do recommend this place.

Good location but not great value for money”
The location is the main attraction. The rooms are acceptable but not that well maintained. The sliding window of my room did not lock. The gates are locked at 7 pm so access is quite restricted. The ground floor does have a nice ambience and the staff are helpful enough. The 200 baht for 9 km to the airport makes Chiang Rai (from my experience) one of the most expensive places in Thailand for a taxi ride.

the most value for money lodging in Chiang Rai”
Location is great, staff was friendly, and the room looks lovely. Everything looks great. It's near the Clock Tower. It's so beautiful in the evening. There are food shops around the hotel. It takes 5 - 10 minutes to walk to the Chiang Rai night bazaar.

clean and adequate”
The is a simple hotel located in the heart of Chiang Rai. It is clean, sparsely decorated, and comfortable. If you are looking for a hotel that is close to the Chiang Rai bus station, this is an excellent location. It is a great place to sleep if most of your attention will be spent outside hiking, exploring, etc. Not the place for real comfort or relaxation, but it will do.

Exceptional”
Great location to nightlife. Very clean and spacious rooms. Big beds. Fast internet. Staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Very good value for the price. Only 2 complaints. One is that breakfast is only white toast, bananas, OJ and instant coffee. A better selection of pastry, real coffee, and maybe some cereal and milk would be a big improvement. Number 2 is that their water pump is quite noisy and can be heard coming on and off in all rooms, especially when early risers are taking showers.

We love our stay here!”
Received warm and cheerful welcome by a lady! Spacious and clean room/bathroom. Towels were changed daily. Free drinking water. Good location. A quiet place. Near clock tower, within walking distance to night bazaar, bus station, songthaew station and market. Breakfast provided, very basic but satisfying for us. Nice staffs. Recommended place to stay.

Great location but expensive for what it offers”
The location is the main strength of this small guesthouse style accommodation. The rooms are average sized and clean enough but none have windows that actually look outside, all facing into the internal space/atrium. The rooms have a good sized refrigerator, an adequate bathroom and are well maintained. The breakfast is a do it yourself toast and fruit offering. The WiFi is good and the cable TV offerings (and TV sets) have been upgraded over the past year. I would probably stay again - for the location but not for the value for money.
