The garden was an unexpected but very welcome relief after the dusty chaotic streets of Kathmandu.

A True Nepali Experience!”
I stayed for three nights at the Kantipur Temple House as I awaited the arrival of a friend. I was attracted by the Nepali architecture, the quiet location and the morning yoga classes. I could not have been happier with my choice! Each morning I awoke, enjoyed an organic coffee on the patio before the 8am yoga class. The breakfast service as excellent and provided perfect nourishment for a day of exploring the courtyards and alleys of the historic district of Kathmandu This area is such a unique experience that allows visitors a experience of feeling how Nepal has been for centuries. It is both chaotic and beautiful, and after several hours of taking it all in, it is wonderful to be able to retreat to a quiet and comfortable hotel. Kantipur Temple House aesthetically matches Kathmandu which I greatly prefer over modern hotels that would feel like I was leaving the place I came to see. The food is excellent and the staff were extremely attentive. The rooms do not provide a lot of sunlight, but this is the traditional design of homes in Kathmandu and provided a quiet, cool place to relax/ nap during the heat of the day. And, quiet cannot be overrated in Kathmandu! I highly recommend this hotel.
The only place to stay in Kathmandu”
Kantipur Temple House is not only accommodating for the average budget, but it is a true temple of relaxation. The hotel is environmentally friendly and a beautiful nod to the future of taking care of our environment while living comfortably. We stayed here for our honeymoon and the hotel made such a lasting impression, that anytime we go to Kathmandu we will go here. It's perfect for hikers with a layover or those looking to relax and explore. The food here was phenomenal. We ventured out for several meals and each time wished we had stayed at the hotel to eat. They have everything from Chinese to Indian, including traditional Nepalese and also a nice variety of continental options. Additionally, the staff were so incredibly friendly. It felt like we were coming back to our family away from home each evening after exploring. It is an all around wonderful place to stay! We highly recommend it and will certainly be back for more!
This hotel is a beautiful, traditional style building in the popular Thamel area although the hotel itself is very peaceful. The building is built very traditionally and features beautiful carvings and courtyards. The rooms are large and very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel faces a challenge, like all hotels here, in that electricity is not always available but you have a good idea about when it will be available. I've stayed at the Yak and Yeti before but I prefer the Kantipur Temple House. A really good hotel and I will definitely be back.
Clean, quiet haven in perfect location”
From the welcome by the very friendly staff all through our stay until the very last second when one of the staff members ran to our taxi to give us the bottle clumsy me forgot at the reception, our stay can only be summed up as perfect. Food was delicious both for breakfast and dinner, so if you are tired after a day of exploring Thamel, it is not a bad choice at all to just stay in Kantipur Temple House and relax. Even if you have to leave the place in the very early morning and have to chose a packed breakfast instead of the one served at the hotel, you most likely won't be disappointed. To sum up: We would stay here again without thinking twice. Thank you for a delightful stay!
Great Eco-Friendly Hotel”
I stay at Kantipur Temple House every year when I come on business because it is a quiet oasis in busy Thamel. They promote eco-friendly, which is also important to me. The building is uniquely designed - when I stay here I feel like I'm in Kathmandu (not just any city). I would highly recommend staying here during your stay in Kathmandu.
Comfortable, friendly and great atmosphere”
We enjoyed our stay at Kantipur Temple House very much. The location is great: close to the restaurants and amenities of Thamel but quiet. The staff greeted us warmly, in perfect English, and explained the hotel's environmental policies to us. We had chosen it partly because of the environmentalism but were happily surprised by the beauty of the building and garden. We only had one meal there, a traditional Nepali thali, and it was delicious but a bit larger than we could finish. My only other tiny critique is that the room was a bit dark, as expected from the low-wattage light bulbs.
The hotel was more than expected”
We arrived late and was greeted with smiling faces. When asked if we could still get some food only smiles and yes is what we heard. The hotel was close to evening sterols in the city and yet close enough to provide relaxation needed upon return. The staff provided everything we neede no matter what the time. Thank you Kantipur Temple House for. Very memorable vacation. We I'll never forget Kathmandu.
Peacful place in thamel”
Good staff Gluten free options :) HOT SHOWERS Get the more expensive rooms, you get more out of them, makes it Kathmandu a nice place. (hot water bottles, more space, double beds, nicer showers) It is a nice retreat in Crazy Kathmandu! Free Yoga available for the inclined. No lifts or coffee machine labelled as eco and ancient ways. But you don't need them, and good coffee is very very hard to find. Thanks Kantipur Temple House for the stay.
Excellent service in a unique hotel”
I would highly recommend Kantipur Temple House for anyone looking for a unique hotel in the heart of Thamel. Beautiful architecture, staff that go above and beyond and beautiful grounds. Anything you want for breakfast they'll cook up for you, rooms always cleaned and staff so friendly and helpful. A short walk to everything you want from Thamel.
Pretty and quiet, a taste of old Katmandu.”
We enjoyed the old look of the architecture without the high price tag that other such hotels charge. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Being close to the heart of Thamel made it easy to get to many of the amazing temples in the area. We enjoy walking and every day we went in a different direction with memorable experiences everywhere. I recommend the Kantipur Temple House for those who don't mind paying a few extra dollars for the visual appeal. There are cheaper alternatives nearby but they don't offer the charm of old style Nepalese design and detail.
The fancy hotel in Kathmandu with friendly staff ”
The Kantipur Temple House was recommended to us by friend who stayed here before and we are very happy we booked it. The room is comfortable with heated mattress, hot water bags and electrical heater...we cannot ask for more in the cold night. the location is great and just a few mins walk from main road of Thamel and Garden of dream. It's one of the quietest place in Kathmandu if you still want to be in the middle of all the attractions.
Lovely, quiet, eco-friendly hotel”
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Kantipur Temple House and will definitely come back on my next trip to Kathmandu. As an expert on "livability", this hotel offers many great features that reduce our impact on the earth.
Nice friendly hotel”
Kantipur Temple House Hotel provides you with an incredible stay when you are here in the capital city of Nepal. The place is nearJyatha Marg, Thamel, where you can find a lot of interesting things to explore. There are also many good restaurants in the neighborhood. Some beautiful tourist attractions are also not far from the Kantipur Temple House.
Great architecture, lovely food & awesome staffs! ”
There was some messed up in booking & I was worried that we won't get money back from agoda. But Hotel Kantipur Manager (Ms. Digambar) was very very nice to sort out the whole mess. I will be recommending this place to all my friends & family who wants to visit Kathmandu. This place is very close to Thamel as well.
Lovely relaxing setting. Beautiful traditional wood carvings and brickwork gives Kantipur Temple House a unique atmosphere in the heart of Thamel. All the staff are very friendly and attentive.
Stay in Kathmandu”
We stayed at Kantipur for two nights. Arrived late, staff greeted us with no issues. Love the grounds and the building, very beautiful and truly an oasis in a crazy city. Would definitely stay again, breakfast was nice and quick, only detractor was the heat. The room was pretty cold (December) but we realized after the first night that we left the window open. Second night was better and the rooms do have electric blankets and staff left hot water bottles (the old school granny ones) in the bed to help warm it. Also shower was cold but didn't realize that it heats up after a few minutes, must have left it on cold the whole time. I guess I just expected no hot water in Kathmandu so didn't realize the room had it. Stay here!
calm and peaceful rest in Tamel ”
The other hotels near Tamel are very noisy, but here Kantipur Temple house is very peaceful and calm. And very near tamal road.
We came back”
We stayed twice at the Kantipur Temple House, before and after our trekking to the Himalayas. Even the day we were supposed to fly out to Lukla, Lukla airport was closed and without reservation we came back to the hotel and they accommodated us till the following day when we finally flew out to Lukla. Highly recommended !!!!!
Beautiful hotel , wonderful staff in peaceful pocket”
What a lovely stay we had here. It is a peaceful respite tucked just south of Thamel. Every time we walked through the gates we felt we left the chaos of Kathmandu behind. Yes, the room we had was a bit dark in the daytime but we enjoyed sitting in our courtyard window seat and reading. All the staff were very friendly, especially the dining room servers. We enjoyed the food here a lot - breakfast buffet was fresh and delicious, if a bit western. Dinner we ate off the Nepali/Indian menu and enjoyed our meals a lot. After we checked out, we missed the vibe so we went back and ate here yet again. Highly recommended for the staff, the beautiful Newari architecture and the feeling of it being a world away from the chaos just outside the gate.
We enjoyed it thoroughly. The building in true traditional kathmandu style has been done with an attention for details, everything up to the rooms is matching and of very good taste. A real pleasure for the eyes. The staff is friendly, and the owner himself likes to mingle with guests and talk about his country and places to visit. The hotel is situated in a narrow street, not so easy to access with a big car, but the location is good, very close to thamel market
