Modern air-conditioned stores and traditional shops fill Karol Bagh’s narrow alleys. Often, the artisan himself presents his work and explains the intricacies of his craftsmanship. Using fabrics that vary from cotton to silks, woolens to synthetics, the market’s tailors create everything from western-style suits to traditional Indian saris.
Shops sell furniture and furnishings, carpets and dhurries, spices and tea. However, the area is best known for its thousands of jewelry shops, selling everything from intricately set necklaces in an array of precious stones to inlaid gold anklets to simple silver bangles.
One of the oldest shopping areas of the city, Karol Bagh is in close proximity to New Delhi’s major attractions, and has a diverse range of accommodation options. A short walk from New Delhi Railway Station, the area provides a great base from which to explore the city. The Domestic Airport is located just 12 kilometers away, while Indira Gandhi International Airport is just a 16km taxi journey away.
