great place for the right people”

The complaints people have I think are fair but for me this place was great. This is a bit isolated, which I like much more than I dislike. It did make going to lunch or dinner or into town a bit of a hassle but when you were just staying at the bungalows the setting is great. The water did have nearly no pressure and it was cold when I was there except in the afternoon. So taking a shower outside the afternoon wasn't worth it for me. They do serve food there which is fine but nothing special. The setting for eating though is really nice, as is the setting for everything there. They offer to drive you into town and pick you up whenever you need it which is nice - it takes maybe 15 minutes to drive in. The wifi basically doesn't exist - though if everything lines up I guess sometimes it works a little bit. But just get a sim card for your phone with a data plan and you should be in great shape - if you care about wifi. It was about US$12 for 10 Gb (for a month) and the speed was great (3Mps or something - huge photo transfers, live video... no problem at all). I used Lao telecom. One night and one afternoon (in 2 weeks) it seemed to fail (but that was supposedly rare). As people say in the other reviews the sheets are thin and have holes... but they were clean. The cabins are pretty cool (and a bit cold at night at this time of year). They are built a few decades ago by the co-owner (husband) by trees he fell. There are huge floor panels that are teak and it is very nice. But it also has plenty of air gaps (mainly screened in) so it is cold when it is cold. It was very much family run, I was driven at various times by Mom, Dad, Daughter 1, Son 1 and what I take to be Daughter's boyfriend. Daughter 2 I think wasn't old enough to drive yet. For the right people it is great. For some people I imagine they would really not like it. Pretty much I think you should be able to tell by the reviews if you should stay or not.

Fantastic stay at Khoun & Khone”

For those who want to experiment an authentic Lao life in a quite and friendly athmosphere. Yes, actually different from the other places. A little bit far from the city center, but as said many times in the comments, the owners will drive you and pick you up for free to and from the city center. It anyways does no take more than 30 minutes by bike for the most courageous ones Definitively a place where to stay in Luang Prabang if you want to live a bit aside from the common tourist crowds. The owners speak very well english...so do not be afraid of losing you.

Get away from it all”

This is not your usual hotel. We spent 4 nights in the centre of Luang Prabang so going out to Khoun and Khone Bungalow was intentionally to get out of town as we had already done it. The hosts are very friendly, they picked us up from our hotel in town and we had a great time staying at their place. There are some waterfalls about 5 km away, a nice walk, there is a cafe so you can get some refreshments before the walk back. No TV no wifi (or very poor) in the rooms but this is where you can just relax and watch the forest.

Spectacular hospitality! ”

We loved our stay here! Set in a more rural setting about 3 km out of town, the beautifully appointed bungalows had a magical romantic feel.... We were given free taxi services in an out of town in the infamous old US ARMY JEEP.... Very cool. All member of the family operation were so kind and had great English skills... My wife and I can't recommend it enough.... All information about the town was helpful and spot on

Lovely bungalows & great staff”

I had a good experience with Khoun & Khone. The staff was very friendly, there was lovely dogs and cats (also kittens!), I was picked up from the buss station and had a ride to the airport, also always to the city and back (not that far away really). The food is very good also! The bungalows look super relaxing in the garden. The room itself was very nice, but the bathroom was not my taste: a bit untidy. It was also "half outside" and that's why in January freezingly cold for me. Also sleeping in the room was super cold, and I had a lot of clothes & 3 blankets to keep me warm. Well, that wasn't really the hotels fault, since it's not usually that cold in Laos.

Nice jungle bungalows with wonderful hosts!”

We had a wonderful time here and were very disappointed that we only had one night booked there, we would have loved to stay longer. The bungalows are outside of town in the jungle. It's beautiful and family owned. Everyone that worked there was very warm and welcoming, it felt more like visiting friends or family than staying in a hotel. The place is further outside of town than the tuk tuks like to go, but Khone will give you a ride in or out of town in a cool old Land Rover anytime for free! Just call them to pick you up when you get into town. The bungalows are lovely, but simple, so don't expect anything fancy. They also cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner here and it's pretty delicious for pretty cheap. I highly recommend you stay here!

Wonderful”

As given in the reviews, its a wonderful place. Quiet, serene. The bungalows look great. Mr.Khoun and his family ready to help you out for any needs. The only drawbacks being that the property is located a few kilometers outside the main town and no air-conditioning. This is more than compensated by any number of trips which you can do in their old jeeps to city center and cool breeze in the evenings.

Rustic and relaxing in a tranquil valley”

This is a truly unique place with large bungalows set in a beautiful valley location outside of LP. The owners and extended family are incredibly friendly and open, so make you feel at home. Because of the setting it is very relaxing but don't expect all the bells and whistles of a regular hotel. This place has its quirks but that is also what makes it charming. The food is also really delicious, but do bear in mind that breakfast is not included which it is at most other places in LP. We stayed here 4 nights and slept the best of all the places we have stayed during 2 months of travelling.

Friendly, peaceful guesthouse”

This guesthouse was a wonderful find and one we can't recommend highly enough. The bungalows themselves were beautiful, and Khone was extremely helpful. She arranged motorbikes for a great price, and when she wasn't there, someone else was around to help us out with tips for enjoying Luang Prabang. Also, the free airport pickup/drop off in the family Jeep was a welcome, enjoyable surprise. The guest house is a 10 minute motorbike ride from town, which we really loved, but if you don't care for that, the family will drive you in/out of time whenever you like (til 9pm or so) Of note is that WiFi was available in the main house (reception/restaurant), but the day we left, their service was upgraded and perhaps available in all rooms by now? Also, being out of town a bit, one is likely to encounter some insects, geckos, etc....but if that is a concern, a trip to Lao may not be for you. We stayed in early Feb and had no need to use the in-room mosquito nets. PS. watch out for Khone's coffee... it's delightful, but incredibly strong and dark.

Unique place with charm”

great place...cute bungalows, nice and celan, friendly staff, good food. this is a place to stay if you really want to get away from it all and just chill out. being 20min outside of the city you really do get that feeling of being in the 'hills'. transportation to and from the city (20min drive) is free, and in a very cool army truck. overall, a great stay.

an experience to cherish”

lovely getaway in bungalows on stilts with a balcony overlooking a feast of green and hills where you coudl spend days just lounging around and relaxing with a drink, food and books. the couple who run the place are simple, hospitable and hardworking and the old open jeep they use to transport poeple to town is a truly vintaghe ride which kickstarts the adrenalin..home cooked meals and great service, large comfy rooms with reading lights- the only drawback perhaps being very little pressure in the showers. they even have a shelf of books which you can borrow and read amidst the lush green surroundings-great atmosphere and nice for walks-only 5 minutes drive away from the town

K&K's was a little bit of a splurge for us and well worth every penny. They are family owned and run bungalows about 15 minutes from the town. The land has beautiful gardens and views and plenty of places to relax. It is so peaceful and quiet, with the exception of almost all the family who play acoustic guitar - it just made the place even more wonderful. The food was delicious and Khoun & Khone were such good hosts. Rides to town in the jeep were simple to organise (though it's only $5 to get a tuk tuk back if you want to be out late and soak up the city)!

Accommodation is in lovely large and airy wood cabins spread throughout a beautiful garden with views of the surrounding countryside. It's about a 15 minute drive into the centre of town and they take you in their old army jeep. Family is lovely and welcoming and nice food. Unfortunately when we stayed the electric company was doing works just up the road and electricity was cut off for most of the day. Showers aren't great as the water is scalding hot. We had to mix it with cold in a bottle to get a decent temperature.

Newly renovated bungalows in a lovely setting”

Khoun and Khone always get the best reviews and there is a reason for this. A stay at their guesthouse (bungalows) is not yet another stay at a guesthouse but a possibility to get a little bit closer to the family life in Laos. You will feel as taking part in the extended family but with as much privacy as you like. Khone cooks the most delicious Lao food and Khoun is a good information source and always excited about everything. The short trip to the town in their military jeep is a memorable thing. The bungalows are set in a beautiful garden and have been renovated in 2012 and have now large windows letting lots of light into the bungalow.

A quiet stay in a family-like environment”

I stayed at Khoun & Khone in October 2012 after reading other positive comments and I totally agreed with them : - the owners Khoun & Khone are lovely people, who will make everything possible so that you feel at home - this included sharing a family dinner for me ; they also prepared a Lao barbecue for several guests on the lawn in the garden under the stars - the bungalow I stayed in was big, clean, well decorated, with a lot of light coming in (unlike many other bungalows I have stayed in) - they will bring you to the town center and pick you up on request in an amazing old jeep - the setting is great with a huge well-tended garden, each bungalow being separated from the next one by a good distance Overall I had a great stay and cannot thank them enough.

J'avais réservé pour 2 nuits et je n'y suis restée qu'une. La personne a été honête et m'a remboursé une nuit. La présentation de cet endroit est complètement faux. On est loin de Luang Prabang, certes ils vous déposent en ville viennent vous rechercher mais on reste dépendant des horaires. En pleine campagne, il n'y a rien autour. Même pas une chaise ni une bouteille d'eau dans la chambre. La Wi Fi ne fonctionnait pas. Le petit déjeuner n'est pas inclus. Trop cher en rapport qualité prix.
