    Wonderful Mountain Lodge”

Kinabalu Mountain Lodge is a peaceful retreat with a very calm, relaxing atmosphere and fantastic view from the deck. It's a 2 km walk from Kinabalu National Park. The people that run/own the lodge are very kind and helpful. We stayed in the dorm room- fantastic cubbies for all the beds provide a bit a privacy and are quite comfortable.

    AMAZING STAY IN KK!”

I chose Kinabalu Mountain Lodge as it was not near the city and in the middle of the forest and it really turn into a great experience! The views were absolutely outstanding. You can really enjoy great views and enjoy the nature from the terrace of the lodge. For me soething to really remartk was the staff. The staff were extremely kind and always helping with a smile. They were even taing me to the city when needed and also took me back to KK as they had to buy some things there. I would definitely recommend this place and come back to Kinabalu Mountain Lodge when I come back to Sabah!

Great place, friendly staff, nice location”

    staff, location, cleanliness

We loved our stay at Mountain Lodge. We stayed here twice, once before the mountain climb and then afterwards to recover! The staff are friendly and the vegetarian food was tasty and worth the money. Dinner is around a table and food is shared so this creates a nice environment and we chatted to the other guests each night. If you want to eat elsewhere there is a cheap restaurant 10 mins walk away (down the path, turn left on the main road, opp side of road a few mins walk). We also walked to Kinabalu National Park the day before climb to walk around the base which was nice (about 2km walk to the park). The only negative is the sound insulation between rooms needs improvement as if people are noisy you can hear everything.

Lovely lodge located in Kinabalu's rainforest.”

The location, surrounding nature and landscapes.

charming lodge located in the rainforest, not too far from kinabalu national park. great view from the lodge's wide balcony and particularly amazing sunsets! the rooms were very clean and the vegetarian food that the lodge served was tasty. it is an ideal place to relax and for some people meditate. the hotel does not have a lot of mountain bikes to rent however. for those interested in biking in the area, it might be better to reserve them ahead of time.

A place getaway from the hustle and bussel life”

    1. hot showers 2. the view and sunrise/sunsets 3. the bed and blankets are comfortable and roomy

The place is about 1km from the main highway. The walk may feel long if you have a lot of luggage, so travel lightly. The beds and blankets were very comfortable. It has basic amenities such as a shared bathroom and lobby space. You can use the kitchen if you so wish to. They also provide towels. They have breakfast and other meals you can get for a good price. Mind you the meals are vegetarian, but they do serve eggs. We met the owner of this place. The team taking care of this place is very family orientated and pleasant. There are cute cats that live on the property. There is no Wi-Fi but it's nice for getting the solitude and relaxation from city life. The rooms are basic but very roomy. I actually lived how simple everything is. Its a place that encourages you to chat with those you're with and meet new people. There is a book exchange rack. Great place to sit on couch and read. The hot showers are amazing especially after hiking. The staff is very friendly. The only downfall was the walls are thin and if there are neighbors that are loud it could be a problem. We ended up politely just asking our neighbors to quiet down so we could get a good night's rest before our hike. The taxi to the bottom of mount kinabalu was 20 rm and the sisters will help arrange it for you. The taxi picks you up right at the door! The property is on a beautiful hill with lovely plants and insects. If you're a nature lover you will love this place. It's a great place before hiking mount kinabalu and a great place to rest since it's so close. Best wishes to this lodge from Canada. We loved our stay!

    2-Star Accomodations, 5-Star Experience”

This is a new family favorite destination. We spent two nights here and didn't even go into Kinabalu National Park! A week later, we decided to return for one more night. :) This place met all of our needs. Nice cool air, beautiful nature, a restaurant, and plenty of hot water for coffee and tea! The place is basic - don't expect something "nice"! You won't have your own bathroom either, but the showers have good hot water. We will never visit Sabah without staying at Kinabalu Mountain Lodge.

    Great place in nature”

    Nature, reasonable price, clean

This is my second time staying here. Booked the dormitory for one night before embarking on my hike up Mt Kinabalu the next day. It may be hard to find. Coming from KK, it is 1km before the park (or 1km after the park coming from Kundasang/Sandakan). May be hard to find at night as it is very dark, so bring a torchlight. It is another 1km walk in, passing by Hallelujah Centre. Road can be very slippery, so walk carefully. Being in the mountains, it is obviously very cold but the blanket they gave was enough. Clean beds. Lots of harmless bugs, especially moths, which I find very fascinating. Beautiful scenery. Food may be difficult to get, so bring your own or if you can walk, there is a restaurant along the main road between the junction and the park.

    Exceptional”

The location is very serene with beautiful forest views. Mt. Kinabalu sits behind the lodge. The verenda offers great views anytime of the day. One can cook in their kitchen. As you are either coming from KK or Sandakan, at the turn off from the main road to the small road to the lodge, there are vegetable sellers for really cheap. We walked out everyday to the Mt kinabalu Park since we like to walk. Staff are very nice with limited English but is sufficient. You can eat at the lodge just keep in mind is very simple meal. The facility is clean and simple. There is no WiFi on premise and the Digi phone card we got gets no reception at the lodge, but we were fine with that.

Wonderful view, great communal living area, clean and neat

Spent 2 nights and were pleasantly surprised by all facets of the lodge. Rooms were immaculately clean, including the communal living area and bathroom. Room was not too spacious but great communal living areas where we felt welcome, especially magnificent view out over the valley. We were cooked breakfast and dinner each day and enjoyed the food, especially the vegetarian meals. Also enjoyed chatting to fellow travellers. Would certainly go back to Kinabalu Mt Lodge to stay again. Was about 2 km to walk to the entrance of the National Park by the road; a bit less to walk in via Sabah Parks trails. Really a lovely location and easy to get a taxi if needed.

Nice Beautiful Place (with 2 Resident Cats!)”

Stayed here a day before and after my Mount Kinabalu climb. Its name speaks for itself. It's really a MOUNTAIN LODGE as it's located on a hilly area. When it's cold, mist covers around the mountain for fresh ambiance. Heater is available for hot showers. That's really the plus point. Not forgotten the resident cats! Just one thing though, if you're taking a van from the KK town, you need to make sure with the driver that he can drive you all the way in to the lodge. Else, they'll just stop you by the entrance and you'll have to walk about 2KM in to reach there. And it's not flat road in, it's hilly road in!

Great location for anyone who want total isolation and enjoying the nature.”

    1. You need a car that can climb very steep road. We drive a Proton Saga 1.3 auto, and everyone in the car need to get out so that we can reach the parking area. 2. They only served vegetarian food. In my opinion, their food is tasty. 3. Internet. There is no wi-fi(as stated in the description) and there is no 3G/LTE connection as well. You will be lucky enough to get Edge/gprs connection if you at the porch. 4. Electrical plug outlet. We got our self a Valley View Balcony Room(2 queen size bed) and there is only 1 power outlet for us to use. We have to asked a 4 point power extension. 5. I like their free hot drink(tea and coffee). They served in the morning and evening. 6. If you want to have breakfast or lunch, there is a very good restaurant in front of Kinabalu National Park that open around 7am. Distance is 2km(1km from the entrance of main road). 7. There is no shop near the lodge. You need to drive to Kundasang Town(about 6 - 7km) to buy groceries or something else. Take note that most shop/restaurant at Kundasang closed around 8pm. There is gas station at the town(near roundabout). 8. Toilet is clean. They have plenty of shower room and toilet for you to use. 9. You cannot see Mount Kinabalu from the lodge.

I can definitely recommend the Kinabalu Mountain Lodge! The view is spectacular and it is a perfect place to unwind after a day of hiking or after climbing the mountain. There is not so much to do, which makes it perfect for sitting, relaxing, reading and chatting with the other travellers. The dorm has individual pots, so you will have your own space and will not be bothered by other guests (e.g. when switching the bedlight on/off)

Nice rooms and a peaceful location”

Very clean, quite close to Kinabalu National Park entrance, great breakfast!

we stayed here for one night in march and overall liked this hostel. it is about 2km from the entrance to kinabalu national park and is quite a nice walk if it's not raining. if you are catching a shared taxi be warned though - you will be dropped off at the dirt road leading to the hostel which is 1km, sometimes quite steep walk "(not fun with lots of bags!). there is a free transfer in the morning up to the national park however. the whole hostel is made from wood and has a lovely rustic feeling. there is a big verendah out the front which has nice views over the valley below and apparently there are some really good views of kinabalu's summit very early in the morning. the private rooms are quite big and clean and the bed is very comfortable. there is also a large common area with lots of books and tv. the hostel serves a fairly nice vegetarian dinner for 8rm (recommended as there really isn't anything close by)and a big breakfast of eggs, toast and baked beans. my only negatives about this place would be that toilet and shower is combined (like most hostels) which means the toilet is always sopping wet. also the walls are paper thin so you can easily here the conversation in the next room and any noise from the common room which is sometimes pretty loud. all in all, i'm sure this is one of the better hostels in this price range at mount kinabalu.

    Adventure trip ever”

I think the place of the kinabalu mountain lodge is very nice , but the challenge to reach there is the road is very dangerous and high risk. This trip is very adventure, we almost fall from the road to the destination while there is very dark and have poor line although there just around 7pm something. Luckily we able to contact the owner which he is very kind and help us drive our car and fetch us to the place. I think safety is very important for every guest who wish to go where, so I think the road should repair and have improvements. The view very best.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Kinabalu Mountain Lodge. Staff were very, very friendly and helfpul, the breakfast was substantial, and the common areas really lovely. We enjoyed the beautiful views and the cool weather from the large verandah and sitting room. The common kitchen area was also great. Glad we choose to stay here.”

Location. Size of our room. Balconey in our family room.

Beautiful natural setting within easy 30 minute walk to entrance of Kinababulu National Park. If you are afraid of walking this place isn't for you as is a 30 minute walk to either the National Park or the bus stop, BUT if you are staying in this area you have probably come here to do some walking and experience natural beauty. The Lodge is located about 1km off the main road so is nice and quiet. The eating area/common area is quiet large and has a beautiful natural setting. Good opportunity to meet other travelers. The family room is quiet large and has a balcony so means can sit out there and enjoy the natural beauty. Only the family rooms have the balconies so I suggest you choose the family room if a view of some sort is important to you. The walls are thin so you can definitely hear other guests moving around if they aren't quiet but then you didn't come here for a five star stuffy stay did you? I wouldn't bet on a hot shower but that's all right. This place is awesome for relaxing but if you are a total Princess or softy you should probably choose something else. But, if you like a basic beautiful place to relax this is it. The food is all vegetarian but the nightly meal is really quiet filling and tasty. Breakfast consists of sandwiches so is less filling than would like and no lunch but there is a resturant just near the Park entrance and some shops near there that you can buy food at, so that is not a problem. If you smoke like I do I suggest you buy enough smokes to last you throughout you stay as difficult to buy smokes near here although you can buy some cheap smokes from the vegetable sellers on the main road opposite the road going into the lodge, but limited choice. Still this is an excellent place and if I come back this way, would stay here again.

My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at the Kinabalu Mountain Lodge. It very much reminded us of the teahouses in Nepal. Although it is fairly basic it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is set is a remote and beautiful location with only a short walk (around 2km) to the National Park headquarters. The food was good value and very tasty (despite being vegetarian only). Our only slight criticism was that the room was pretty cold at night and the thin sheets provided were not really warm enough. Overall our stay at the lodge was very enjoyable and good value for money especially when everything else in and around the national park seems very (overly) expensive.

Basic hotel, clean but a bit out of the way”

Friendly staff, in the middle of nature.

We used this lodge after climbing Mount Kinabalu and to extend our stay in the park. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Vegetarian dinner can be provided for a low price and the food was excellent and freshly cooked. Our Japanese style room was basic with no storage space, the beds and the room were very clean. Only 2 showers for the lodge and shower time is limited to between 5 and 8pm but can be requested in the morning. Transport to the National Park was provided for a nominal fee and we suggest using this as it would be quite far to walk. When we were there the lodge was used by couples or groups before or after walking up Mount Kinabalu. Lodge is isolated but great for nature lovers. After serving dinner the staff leave the lodge and there is no staff presence in the lodge overnight.

    Good location & Natures Attraction”

    Nature's enthralling

A kilometer drive to the Kinabalu Mountain Lodge from the main road though it was a bit nerve wrecking as you head to the Lodge with its sloppy & downhills and narrow roads overseeing the valley ! It's kind of exciting ! Spectacular view of the mountains ! Room is acceptable though the beds feels a bit dam...Very cold at night...! Near to Kinabalu Park (about 1km distance), great connection to the adventure activities to Kinabalu Park which we did...
