Probably one of the best stays in the area. Would not hesitate to stay there again. But for a week, - not just a couple of days.

Great hotel right on the beach!”
A friend recommended this hotel and we're so glad she did! Great, clean, 4-room hotel right on the beach with a great beachfront bar/restaurant and wonderful staff. We walked around and checked out some other hotel rooms on the Unawatuna beachfront, but none were as nice or as good a value as the Kingfisher, so we extended our stay here. Highly recommend it! The only things to note are that there's a loud party here on Saturday nights and there's no pool (but who needs one with the beach right there?!?) Highly recommend.

    Good spot for relaxation”
The location of the KingFisher hotel is almost perfect. If you can snag one of the right side rooms facing the beach on either the second or third floor (we didn't, we go the left side room on the second floor) it would be spectacular since you'd also have an amazing view. Even with out that, the stay was amazing with good food, great staff, and perfect central location that you can walk the entire beach from. We had a great last 3 days of our honeymoon there. If you looking for something with North American like standards this is the place to be. There are certainly cheaper places but for what were looking for at the end of our 3.5 week vacation it was perfect.

    Techno Zentrum !!”
I would only recommend the Kingfisher Hotel to either deaf people or to people that are ok with going to sleep at 03:00 in the morning ! The hotel has a weekly saturday night party that goes on untill around three oclock am. The guests are mainly not hotel guests , as there are only four rooms. The neighboring resturant had parties on sunday and monday nights , so after three nights with no sleep , and us feeling like zombies the rest of the day , we requested to leave. The owners , descision makers where never seen at the hotel and the problem took an extra whole day to solve since everthing had to be relayed to the owner in Colombo. We were not able to get out of our contract , and were offered a room at their other property , at the Bamboo Garden in Unawatuna. So we ended up paying Kingfishers higher price , for a room with a garden view. The only reason we visited Unawatuna was because of the wonderfull description and photos we saw from Kingfisher hotel. I would not stay willingly in any other place in Unawatuna. So honestly , we believe that we were cheated and tricked . The Bamboo Garden was a fine property , a pleasant hotel with a quite atmosphere and I would recommend it... but there is no beach access or sea view . So you get what you pay for. We didnt. All the staff at both hotels were very helpfull and pleasant . The kingfisher staff sounded sincerely sympathetic to our problems , but didnt have the competence to make a descision regarding a solution. I reserved our stay through Agoda and called Agoda regarding our problem and your worker explained that it was up to the hotel to solve the issue. We wanted to leave Unawatuna since the Kingfisher Hotel could not offer us a good nights sleep and were more or less forced to stay in a more inferior hotel for the same price. We have worked hard and long to save up for our vacation and feel cheated. I would definitely not recommend Kingfisher to anybody with normal hearing and cannot really trust Agoda , sinc

    Good location ”
One of the more expensive hotels in Unawatuna. Extremely noisy when there is a disco - windows of the bedroom rattled with the vibrations/noise until 3.30am. Food good but athmosphere spoilt by loud music from adjoining cafes. Great beach location. Room clean but for some ghekos. Lovely balcony but view of sea is blocked by shrubs.

    Perfect location”
Right on the beach with great cafe and restuarant.Staff friendly and helpful. Small hotel - four rooms ith beach views. Go for rooms 1 or 2 on the top floor. Two niggles - beach shower is poor and the western-style swing doors leading to the bathroom are an absolute pain! But a pleasure to stay hr

    Kingfisher”
Kingfisher is an ideally located hotel. Bang on the beach... you simply get up and wander to the sea! Ideal. The hotel is small and intimate, you get to know the team quickly. They are friendly, and helpful, with a willing smile. There are a few things that let the hotel down. 1. Speed of service. The team are friendly and helpful, but they are on a complete go slow. Ordering food is the easy part, getting the food to the table, within a 40 min time frame is significantly harder. Regardless, of if you order a small plate of fries, a sandwich, or a main meal, you have to chase the team, not once, but often twice. The slowness in the kitchen is absolutely unacceptable... 2. The menu is not diverse enough. The breakfast menu ( breakfast is not included, and so you pay on top) is boring. Simply not enough choice. As I had to pay for my breakfast, I found myself eating across the road, where the menu was really appealing, and the time from ordering to the table was quick. The portion sizes are also small. Once you have waited 40+ minutes for the food to come, you are ravenous. All in all the kitchen/ menu/ service is very poor. The Kingfisher really could be a really AMAZING bijou hotel if they focused on excellent food, a daily menu with fresh produce, and excellent customer service. Instead, it seems to be focused on maximising profits: small portions, sun beds too close together and many, many restaurant tables. I will definitely return to Sri Lanka and Unawatuna, but I am unlikely to stay at the Kingfisher.

Great little hotel on an amazing beach”
Excellent staff and service. Rooms are minimally yet tastefully done using brushed concrete and dark wood which is beautiful. Each room as a huge balcony facing the sea. Although there are plants and trees obstructing the sea view (giving privacy as well), the rooms have a lovely view especially the ones on the top floor. It's a small young peppy place that hosts great parties on weekends and during the day it's super chilled out. Food is really good too. Can't stress enough on how nice the people there were. Definitely going back there when in unawatuna.
