Perfect for ski weekend ”
Loved the location, that breakfast was included, drying room for ski gear, restaurant on site and a short drive to shops. Location at bottom of Turoa is great. Would be good to have more kitchenette style for families but other than that cannot fault the kings arms. We’ll definitely try to come back.

Very good”
Had all our basic needs for a short stay. The staff were friendly and the room very clean. We really enjoyed our dinner and drinks in the restaurant. I was also very appreciative that the chef was so accommodating with food allergies and took the time to talk about the menu and made a meal to suit. We visited during summer in off peak so very quiet but can imagine it would have a great atmosphere in the winter months. Also has lots of games to play in the bar if the weather isn’t good but our kids also enjoyed this while we were there.

Great fire and bar”
Quiz night fun atmosphere, lively bar, good for families. Average food but does the trick.

Terrible beds - springs in your back. No sound proofing - 6.30am wakeups from people moving outside.”
The beds are absolutely terrible. They are basically springs covered in a cloth. You sink in and have springs at different levels of hardness pushing into different parts of your back. The room has no soundproofing, so if you dont mind being woken up at 6.30am then this is the place for you. There is no fridge or tea/coffee facilities in the room. The bathroom was clean, but the shower has a shower curtain, so if you don't stay here if you don't like that. Location is good, the pub is like a sports bar, but it's a short walk to the Powderkeg and you're at the bottom of the mountain road which is great. If the beds were better, place would have been fine.

Average accommodation”
Quite basic - without simple kitchen facilities, like kettle or microwave. There's no sauna despite of the description, spa pools are average and quite far away from the rooms. Wifi is very slow and laggy - like you're back in 90s, even 2G works better

Cold cold cold !”
The room is very cold when we check in! It takes ages to warm up by the heater in the room! Spa pool is very close to the room, you can hear people laughing chatting during the night! Hard to sleep!

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE ”
Zero soundproofing, staff and others had a raging party until 3am. Base boomed throughout the place. Despite our asking twice, they did not care at all. No sleep. Terrible staff who didn’t care at all for their guests. Got our money back after the first night and booked elsewhere in town. NEVER AGAIN.

budget option for skiing holiday ”
Stayed here for three nights while doing a bit of skiing on Mt Ruapehu. Accommodation in a triple room was pretty basic, but clean and overall a good budget choice if you prefer to spend your money on the skiiing. Beds a bit squishy. Simple breakfast included in room price. The wifi unfortunately was non-existent in our room (which was at the very edge of the hotel site) so we had to go into the bar to use it, which was a bit annoying. Also, it struck me that you do need a car if staying there (luckily we had one), as Kings is located a good mile or two from the main shops, ski rental places etc of Ohakune. However, the bus up to the slopes does stop near the hotel, and Kings is actually closer to the slopes than the main township is, so you get that extra 10 minutes in bed!

Blizzard up in the mountain”
We arrived in Ohakune past 8pm and we had no trouble looking for the hotel. Because the hotel does not have a 24 hr reception, the reception was already closed when we finally got there. However, there was a very clear instruction on the reception door on what to do for a late check in. The instruction directed us to the hotel's restaurant where we were warmly greeted by a friendly staff and checked us in- no fuss. The room was not that big but it was clean and had basic amenities.Hotel's restaurant/bar was really handy for some drinks after coming back from Mt Turoa and getting stuck up there for 4 hrs due to bad weather/blizzard. I Can't comment on the food because we only had drinks. The restaurant/bar is tastefully decorated and well presented, w/ friendly staff. All in all, it was a pretty reasonable stay.

Fantastic Staff, Great Value”
My wife and I stayed at Kings for a week with our two infant children and were very pleased with the room and the service. Tracy and her staff were very friendly, and went out of their way to keep us comfortable during our stay. They even had toys available for our son to play with while we ate in the restaurant. The room was comfortable, very warm, modern shower and cosy bedding. This is a good place to stay close to Turoa - the road up the mountain is only two streets away. Thanks for taking care of us Tracy!

Great location for a ski holiday”
We stayed at Kings for a weekend while skiing. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. Really close to bars and restaurants. The breakfast in the morning was simple and very welcome. There is great parking. The bar is nice although does tend to close early. Will definitely be back.

A comfortable stay”
We had a comfortable stay here. If you are in to staying up late and having fun then this is a great place for that with a bar right on the premises. Music on Saturday night was quite loud, but if you were happy to party then it would be fine. The other guests were very quiet. The room was very warm, great drying room facilities and handy to a great place called The Suitcase (2 minutes walk away). We didn't dine at Kings but imagine it is probably quite good.

Convenient location in ski town”
the bar and restaurant is the highlight of the aged yet charming hotel. friendly atmosphere, large tv screens for watching the all blacks!. another hightlight were the hawkes bay beers on tap. excellent boutique beer from the norm. good pub meals. the room itself was very small yet refurbished. took a long time for hot water to flow to the shower. however, it's an old hotel, no real problem, just wait. breakfast is very simple. minimalist and in contrast to the friendly and welcoming bar staff, the breakfast staff was oblivious to morning customers. serving breakfast was an imposition. however, on the whole, an ok stay.

Very good”
Room was small but very warm and clean. The location was also good. It was closed to town and turoa ski field. Friendly stuff at the reception and enjoyed breakfast at the cafe. Very satisfied.

Good basic accomodation”
Good basic accommodation, a small room but we expected that. Great location, breakfast was a simple one (toast and cereal) but felt it was even more basic than it should have been (cheap bread, limited cereal options etc). However it was just a bite to eat before we headed out for the day. No high chairs available in the cafe for babies. The owner however was lovely, very friendly and helpful, and we would stay again (we'd just make breakfast plans elsewhere)
