A little tired looking but full of character
Food Surroundings Garden
A colonial hideaway, with good food, very nice staff and plenty of character. A little bit tired looking perhaps but that is all part and parcel of the place. It feels more like someone's home than a hotel. No bath plug, but otherwise clean and comfortable.

ridiculous price for 3 star facilities
Any dish can be ordered as long as it is available on the local market
The hotel does not have set menus. Food has to be ordered in advance as long as the ingredients are available from the local market. It is not clear in advance what the hotel charges for the food and drinks. Water is served from previously used bottles. Cleaning of the rooms, making the beds didn’t happen during our four day stay. Replacement of towels occurred after three days. Laundry is clean but takes three days. No price breakdown of the laundry is available. The garden is pleasant but not exceptional. The views are limited by the trees at the border of the garden. There is a swimming pool with white plastic sun beds. Other wooden garden furniture is poorly maintained, the paint is faded, if present at all. Generally, the building and the furniture are old and poorly maintained. The bed rooms and common room are fitted with mismatching wooden furniture. The bathrooms are made of glass, cheap tiles and chrome. The acoustics in the building are bad. The dining room sounds like a tomb, conversations of the staff can be overheard anywhere in the building, the sound of the electric water pump is audible 24 hours per day. Some incorrect information about the bungalow as advertised on the Agoda site: The hotel is advertised as a 5 star hotel, which is not a true reflection of the facilities. The location of the hotel is shown as the outskirts of Bandarawela, however, the actual location is about 30 minutes drive from Banderawela which can only be reached using an off road vehicle considering the terrible condition of the access roads. There is no bar/pub. There are no safety deposit boxes. There is no golf course, just a lawn. There is no internet in the bedrooms, only in the common room. There are no coffee makers in the rooms. There is no room service since there are no telephones in the rooms.

Lovely experience!
Beautiful grounds
we (family with a 2yr old and 5yr old) stayed here for 2 nights after a flight from singapore and very long drive from colombo (i would not recommend coming here in the same day as flying in - it is about 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 hours from colombo even with an experienced sri lankan driver.) the true charm of this place is the location and setting. it is very much off the main road (you will likely even be questioning yourself when approaching on the semi-maintained roads to get there). however, once you are there you will be glad you made the trip. the property is essentially a family estate turned guest residence with a long tea plantation history. it is set on a hillside surrounded by tea plantations, while a great pool (if you can take the chill), a rose garden, their own coffee plants and even a grass tennis court (does not distract from the natural beauty). there are some nice walks directly from the house. the staff were friendly, but not overtly service oriented (rather quiet and reserved). i was not at all displeased by the service / staff, but also not overly impressed. the food was very good, and they have a nice range of spirits / wines to offer for a charge. this is also a great point to explore the area - perhaps not as convenient as ella, but if you are looking for a combination of sightseeing and a day or so hanging out and relaxing, then this could be a perfect choice. the rooms were simple, but very spacious and adequate. a few ants throughout the house, but that can be expected for the climate. overall, a very pleasant, relaxing stay for all traveler categories.

unique hotel in a remote location
immaculate garden and service
this old mansion house is located far from everywhere which makes it even more unique. atmosphere is great, gardens are beautiful and very well maintained, the butler and the staff are just like we imagined it would have been during the colonial period, which ad to the vintage charm of the mansion. some good walks in the tea plantation. food was splendid.

Great setting, very relaxing
friendly staff, peaceful, quiet
We had a relaxing holiday. Friendly staff that made us feel at home. We didnt get the feeling that we were in a hotel, but felt like we were in our own place. We only had breakfast and it was very good sri lankan food we requested.

British elegance with tranquility
Family place
1. Tranquility: Very quiet place. If you seek for a calm stay or a good time with family then this is it. It has its own private tea farm and courtyard with a swimming pool, tennis court and great terrace where you can have your breakfast/ dinner. We even spotted several rabbits, roosters, and squirrels on the grass. 2. Hospitality: The butlers try their very best to design a special supper menu for us. We like their greetings whenever we are back from a long-day trip. 3. Scenery: It's very british, well-maintained but not that original to Sri Lanka style. Still very appealing to most of the westerners. 4. A family place: It has its living room, dining room and just like a (big) home inside the tea plantation. Some cons- 1. Food choice: The time we stay they only offer Xmas set dinner which costs USD50. We have to discuss for long to have supper choice. 2. Location: Super isolated. You can only eat here. It takes 20-30mins drive inside the mountain. You need to hire a car too. 3. Bathtub with cracks: We stay in Pyman (family room with 2 double beds) and the bathtub is kinda dirty with several cracks. The mosquito nets have several holes too.
