Interesting place. Some parts are a bit run down and could be touched up or fixed, but it has some rustic charm as well. The staff was extremely friendly and pretty mellow. Most spoke only basic English. The location is on the best part of the beach, about 1km out of town. The pool has an awesome view and is nice after a day at the beach. No wifi away from the front desk area. Overall I surprised myself to like this place more and more, and even decided to extend my stay! Perfect if you are looking for a stress free setting, with a rustic charm without being scruffy.
Two beautiful nights”
We had a lovely stay here. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was clean, tidy and well equipped (TV, fridge, aircon) and they organised our safari no problem. We spent the rest of the time in the pool, when it came to dinner we enjoyed an awesome buffet one night and dinner on the beach by lantern light in the other.
Not as good as it looks”
We were charged for the rooms again even though we had paid in advance through agoda. We never got the food we ordered, we got food poisoined. Pool is full of bugs and when we complained they said it was nothing to worry about as the bugs wasn't dangerous.
The hotel is located directly on the beach. The rooms are in individual huts or chalets. There is air conditioning and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. There were 3 of us and the woman who runs the hotel gave us a better chalet because we were 3 men travelling. All had separate beds. The beach is really beautiful. But it is dangerous to swim there and children need to be watched. There is a pool but it's not really suitable for children. I have just one complaint we were charged for 2 meals that we did not have, about €20. I would recommend the hotel, though it is a little out of the way.
Extreme beautiful beach”
A beautiful beach, nice cabanas, a restaurant to enjoy a beer. And on a 5 min walk on the beach (go to the right) a place for a save swim a the seaside. Other places it is too dangerous to go into the sea. But therefore you get a beautiful show of big waves breaking on rocks in the sea.
Rustic accommodation, would recommend”
We visited at the end of May, in the quiet season, in fact we were the only guests. We had the restaurant, pool and beach to ourselves. We would recommend Krinda Beach Resort, the Staff are friendly and very helpful, nothing seemed to much effort. The room I would describe add rustic, mud and timber chalets, we requested one with AC and detached, which we got. The rooms were comfortable. The was also comfortable with 4 poster style mosquito net. The food was good, the menu had a large selection of local western and international dishes. They did a good breakfast, bacon, sausages and eggs, only missing the Heinz baked beans and HP sauce! Location is also good, only about 14km from Yala and situated right on the beach. We got the train to Matara then hired a driver to take us the 2.5 hours to the resort, which cost Rs6000. The bus is a cheaper option, costing around Rs150 each but takes longer.
best place to stay for Yala”
we hesitated between staying in Tissa and Kirinda, but we were so happy we made the choice we did. Tissa was very dusty and hot with very little to do except eat and sleep (and the eating options were very few and far between). It's a very functional place full of cheap hotels and pushy jeep drivers. By contrast Kirinda was lovely: great beach, lovely pool to chill out in and generally a great place to relax in before and after your safari. It's a short drive to Yala and the staff at Kirinda beach helped us organise our whole day safari with a really good spotter. They also helped us look into options for our onward journey too which was really helpful. Staff were generally lovely and did everything possible to make our stay memorable, from dinner at sunset on the beach to giving us tips about body boarding at the beach! Would definitely recommend and stay again if we visit Yala in the future.
Very Nice. We had a great time there.”
We had a great time at the resort. The staff was very helpful and went out of the way to make our stay comfortable. We needed to visit a doctor as my daughter was unwell, it was organised in a jiffy on a Sunday. Grat stuff, keep it up...
Wonderful place! Great value! ”
Spent one very comfortable night and this beautiful resort. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Nice variety of very tasty food. Surroundings were incredibly beautiful. It had everything you could hope for! Highly recommended. Especially grateful for the wi-fi and hot water after a week in Sri Lanka.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kirinda Beach. Often we were the only people on the beach or in the pool and both were fantastic. There was a wide range of food options and the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and generous. Our stay here was a highlight of our Sri Lankan trip and such a nice respite from all the windy car travel.
lovely relaxing stay”
I booked one night at Kirinda Beach Resort and I end up staying 3 nights. The general manager really makes sure you have a pleasant stay. The resort is right on the beach and you can hear the waves at night in your cottage. The sea is quite rough which is beautiful, but be careful with swimming. They have a lovely swimming pool at an altitude and you look out over the sea. The beach is really clean and they say there are quite often turtles, which you can see. Also they offer voluntary project in the resort.
Nice relaxing room, right next to beauiful beach ”
As soon as we arrived at the Kirinda Beach Resort, we had a very friendly team of staff to welcome us ensuring that we felt instantly at home and relaxed. This is one hotel where the photos on Agoda do not do justice to the rooms, which turned out to be a lot nicer than we were expecting. This is an eco hotel so you are very much thrown in with nature, we had tree frogs living in the roof of our hut but they didn't disturb us, in fact, along with the monkeys hiding underneath the raised swimming pool and a giant lizard in the grounds the place was given even more charm!! The pool is fantastic, raised above the rooms giving an incredible view of a dramatic beach. Although the sea wasn't the place for a tranquil swim due to crashing waves at this time of year, there was a river on the other side of the beach that you could swim or cool down in and plenty of other activities were offered. The only slight fault we found with the place was with a few members of the restaurant staff who were still being trained and therefore struggled to understand some of our requests due to a language barrier. This was understandable as the hotel is supporting the local community by providing jobs for local people which is a great thing, it just requires a little patience at times. The resort also offer other community projects for guests to support, showing their care and dedication to their surroundings. This was by far the best hotel we visited in Sri Lanka, as we were made to feel very welcome, and the location is beautiful!
peaceful, except for stray dogs!”
Very beautiful location but we unfortunately arrived during a terrible storm so couldn't do many outdoor activities during our stay other than visit yala. The rooms were pleasant but filled with wildlife e.g. frogs, lizards, cockroaches (this resort not for the nervous person I think as can easily be removed from rooms). Gave us a free mosquito repellent for our room in addition to the nets to help sleep bite free. Loved the pool, great idea to look out on the beach it as too rough to swim. The staff couldn't do enough to make the stay comfortable and keen that they are "perfect". Hot breakfast was very close to a UK/Irish, very good. Beach is lovely and very private, was only us, my friend and the stray dogs! Would stay again if I was in sri Lanka. Wifi did not work, even in public areas.
Outstanding food in beach location”
Very attentive staff, excellent food, great location right on the beach and near Yala National Park. Chalet near beach and pool was clean but not so cozy, a bit too much plastic and “cheap ethno”. Has an “infinity pool” on top of a huge rock. The restaurant with beach view is certainly a highlight. Easy walk to Kirinda Village.
relaxing and startlingly close to natural wildlife”

So welcoming and great location”
We spent 2 nights at the hotel the staff are amazing the manager, owner and particularly the restaurant manager are all so welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is a little out of any town but it doesn't matter as you have everything you need there. The restaurant is amazing buffet meals and live music every night. The restaurant manager is a true professional my husband has a wheat allergy and every night he went through the whole menu with him. Don't go to this hotel if you are not happy sharing your lodge with the odd bit of wildlife, you are in an Eco lodge so there is nature all around. The rooms are open to the elements a bit but nothing that is really awful. Overall the hotel is well worth a visit the owner, manager and restaurant manager were amazing.
Great location and really friendly owner and staff”
Great stay - wild and rugged beach, unusual but great pool, nice comfortable rooms. The food was good - although there could have been more choice in the evenings, we didn't always want the buffet, Really beautiful surroundings between two national parks - we took bicycles out at sunset and it was gorgeous. Really friendly staff as well, full of great tips for the area and happy to help with organising safaris to Yala and give advice on the best times to go and the weather.
We only had one night booked here so didn't have time to fully enjoy everything about the setting. It was relatively quiet when we arrived. A very small team of staff were on hand, keen to see we were comfortable and had all we wanted throughout our stay. It was my husband's first experience of mosquito nets. We enjoy animal life such as geckos so the little fellows sharing the accommodation were a delight. We walked along the beach to the river mouth to try to see the crocodiles staff had told us about, but no luck - rock crabs to watch instead. We were also pleased that we didn't see any vendors and were not hassled by anyone. The hotel served dinner on the beach, where a little more lighting of the route would have been good. The meals were set meals (sadly only European, with no Sri Lankan option) but tasty and plentiful. There was an inventive presentation of breakfast - a tropical island made of scrambled egg and palm trees of garnish - served in the restaurant which was airy and beautifully situated. No problems with our accommodation. The chalets consist of a bedroom with an en suite, so not loads of sitting space indoors, but we were only there one night. We didn't stay long enough to enjoy the seating provided outside each chalet or more of the beach, which was a minute from the chalet. A simming pool was also being built.
unforgeable place ”
a beautiful resort located just on the outskirts of yala and bundala park.on arrival we were welcomed by the manager dilan sanjewa and the rest of the staff. they made our stay in the resort a truly unforgeable experience.the rooms were spotless with clean linen and towels (quite uncommon in hotels in sri lanka). the staff organised a few trips for us and after the safari we arrived back late to discover the staff had organised a candlelight dinner for us by the pool - very romantic!the manager dilan is like wikipedia, just ask him about any of the local culture and history, he will be happy to answer all questions and fulfil all requests with a smile.i would definitely recommend this place for anybody who is looking for quality time out and a 5 star service.
the beach is great but the surf is a bit rough, the monsoon may have been a factor. the other comments about the food are correct. we were worried about the lack of air conditioning, but it never became an issue.
