Beautiful room and good onsen”
Enjoyed our stay in this hotel. We booked the Open Air Japanese Style room. Love the plan of the room and the scenery from the room. Also love both the private onsen and private onsen. Buffet breakfast need improvement. Below our expectation for Hakkaido standard. We had very good buffet breakfast in our hotel in Noboribetsu.
Amazing place to stay ”
The staff is amazing which made the whole experience worth it. The receiving staff informed us of what to do in the area despite struggling to communicate in English. His effort was much appreciated. The facilities were amazing too. We enjoyed the open air bath despite the below degree temperatures in March. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast too...
I am extremely happy with the stay, great view, great room and great staff, there is free onsen on the roof of the hotel, the time I arrive is snowy day, when I enjoyed great hot spring in front of a frozen ocean in a snowy night, unforgettable. Food and staff are also great, free shuttle bus to Shiretoko JR. In a word, Great!
Best hotel to stay near Shiretoko! ”
The staff service was extremely superb from the moment we arrived till we left the hotel. It's near good view points for sunset pictures too. Dining buffet has one of the largest variety I have ever seen and the quality is something you just have to try. Room was absolutely stunning and the and the staff will make your futon for the night. Onsens were superb too. In short, a must stay if you are visiting Shiretoko! We definitely want to stay here again.
Good hotel ”
This is a grand old dame of a hotel. Decor is a little aged and tired, and tourists clearly arrive by the busloads, but generally clean and well-maintained. Our package included only breakfast (full board packages include buffet lunch/dinner), which was a problem because most restaurants in town were closed at dinnertime while we were there. We ended up eating in a small ramen restaurant in the hotel itself; simple fare at relatively reasonable rates. There is a 2-level onsen including one open-air bath on the top floor with an amazing view of starlit skies. This is the highlight of this hotel, and I believe unmatched by other nearby hotels. The onsen is a little inconvenient to access from the far annex, but otherwise worth the stay. The location of the hotel, being within walking distance of several main sightseeing points including Godzilla Rock, ferry cruises to see native wildlife and the best sunset viewpoints along the coastline.
My favourite hotel in hokkaido”
The exterior looks deceiving. This was the best hotel we had stayed in Hokkaido. We were given a choice to upgrade to a private onsen for S$54. Dinner buffet spread, was fantastic. Will definitely visit again.
THE hotel for your stay in Shiretoko”
Had one of our best hotel stays here at Shiretoko Grand. This is the only major hotel in the region and would be an excellent base for exploring the natural wonders of Shiretoko. The Shiretoko Goko lakes and Shiretoko pass are a 15 minute drive away. You could easily spend 3 days exploring the area at a leisurely pace, taking walks or hikes on the trails exploring the lakes, waterfalls and mountains. The hotel itself is centrally located in the small town. Highly recommend including dinner in your booking as it is of a high standard even though its a buffet. The highlight of our stay would be the open air roof top hot spring where you can have a soak while enjoying the view of the ocean and skies.
great hotel of reasonable price”
the hotel situated near the dock, we were upgrade to a room with great view of the lake in the main building. the room is spacious but a bit old. cannot complain cos it cost only ~usd 100. the hotel is renovated and the new west wing will open on 22/5/12. the staff are helpful.
DO NOT BOOK ONSEN HOTELS VIA AGODA”
paid a full price for a night's stay with dinner and breakfast through agoda. (clearly stated that dinner and breakfast included). However upon arrival at hotel, told dinner is not included and not booked by agoda. After contacting agoda, told i need to prove that the price includes dinner myself (HOW??) and that the booking is made 2 months ago i can claim anything I want. Very bad experience, and it happened 2 out of my 3 bookings with agoda. I don't know if the fault is with agoda or the hotel... but anyway just book direct with the hotel or some other website.
This is the 2nd time I stayed with this hotel. Would stay here again in future definitely.

Great location, good facilities”
It has open air food bath, spacious hotel with a lot of facilities. Plenty food selection. Ensuite open air onsen was fabulous
Much more better then the expectations. Good environment, indoor bath have certified hot spring, great view from the room....will go back again with some booking
What a memorable and pleasant stay!”
Modern hotel so though we booked the traditional Japanese room with the futons, it didn't have the same feel as the hotel we went to before which was a very traditional Japanese hotel. However, kitakuboshi was worth the amount we paid per night (500+ sgd for 2). Buffet breakfast (wide spread) is provided, there is a beautiful albeit very modern rooftop onsen, a ground level outdoor terrace for soaking your feet in hot water, and on some nights, a wildlife enthusiast employee will conduct nature talks in the lobby with a slideshow of animal photographs taken from the nearby Shiretoko Park. We didn't understand a word of Japanese but her enthusiasm won us over! If you're willing to pay, it's definitely worth it!
Pros is they have good hot spring and nice buffet Cons is the air cond might not be cold and the staff feedback this is common as the weather is cold so the air cond is not essential... We try open window but there are many seagull outside and quite noisy.
From the moment I stepped in the door the service was amazing. The staff are great, and the buffet is incredible. Best of all are the beautiful rooms, with incredible views over the harbour. Having my own onsen on the balcony was a delight. I wish I could have stayed longer!
Yamazaki 12 at the bar for 8 bucks, perfect guardian angel checkin guy, fun yukata to wear to dinner - which was nuts - and a great outdoor hot spring foot bath to watch the stars. Oh and the onsen open on the roof in the morning was the best onsen of my life - could see all the mountains.
Great Stay at Shiretoko”
My husband and I had a great time staying in Shiretoko Grand Hotel Kitakobushi even though we only stayed there for a night. We went there during end Feb and the view from the hotel was fabulous! The hotel buffet spread (dinner & breakfast) was delicious and fresh. We regretted for not planning a 2 nights trip at Shiretoko as there are a lot of activities (at own expense) which we are not able to participate (such as specialized drift ice tour where you are given a wetsuit and wade through the icy water). The view from their outdoor onsen was as shown in the Agoda website...no kidding! Be prepared to travel for at least 1 hr on bus from the Shiretoko-Shari train station to Utoro Onsen bus terminal..but the view along the bus ride is magnificent!
Old japanese-styed hotel with a very good maintenance. Room with a view of the sea and drift ice. Supurb buffet with 10 flavers of ice-cream both breakfast and dinner. Good onsen and spa Though very expansive but value of money. Recommended!
