“Kiwi International Hotel Auckland - A Cautionary Tale for Long Stays”

Overall Rating: 2/5 Stars (Alright for a short stay, not recommended for extended periods) Review Title: Central Location, But Housekeeping & Customer Service Fall Short for Longer Stays Body: My recent 15-day stay at the Kiwi International Hotel in Auckland, while benefiting from its undeniably central location, unfortunately highlighted Housekeeping & Customer Service Fall Short for Longer Stays Body: My recent 15-day stay at the Kiwi International Hotel in Auckland, while benefiting from its undeniably central location, unfortunately highlighted significant shortcomings in their housekeeping and overall customer service, making it difficult to recommend for extended durations. While the hotel might suffice for a brief 1 or 2-night stopover, guests planning longer visits should manage their expectations regarding the level of service provided. Upon arrival, I was informed that basic housekeeping would be done daily and bedsheets would be changed every four days. This seemed reasonable. However, my actual experience was quite different. After a full 10 days, I noticed my bedsheet remained unchanged, bearing the same distinct marks as before. When I politely brought this to the attention of the housekeeping supervisor, the response was disappointing: "it is complimentary and most hotels charge for room service." This statement immediately gave the impression that any housekeeping beyond simply emptying the rubbish bin was a "favour" rather than an expected service for a paying guest. Even after complaining, and being told the sheets were changed, I could still see the original marks, indicating they had not been. This lack of transparency and effort was frustrating. Later in my stay, after 8 days, when I requested the bathroom be cleaned, the outcome was equally unsatisfactory. The area was merely vacuumed, with no mopping of the floor or tidying of the washbasin. The general attitude from staff when discussing housekeeping requests made me feel as though I was asking for something unreasonable or being a burden. This is a concerning sign of poor customer service. A particular interaction with the female manager further solidified my concerns. When I relayed my experiences, she stated that guests should not ask housekeeping directly but should instead inform reception. I gently reminded her that after 10 days of sleeping on the same sheets, I had indeed called reception on two consecutive days to request a sheet change. Her response felt dismissive and unhelpful, placing the onus on the guest for a clear service lapse. While the central location is indeed a strong point for quick access to Auckland's attractions, the overall impression left by the inconsistent and subpar housekeeping, coupled with the unhelpful and almost condescending customer service from certain staff, particularly the female manager, severely detracts from the stay experience. Guests should be able to expect a reasonable level of cleanliness and service, especially during a two-week stay, without feeling as though they are "asking for too much." I sincerely hope the hotel owner takes this feedback seriously and implements improvements in housekeeping standards and staff training, particularly concerning customer interaction and the perception of "complimentary" services. A more welcoming and service-oriented approach is essential for guest satisfaction, especially for those choosing Kiwi International Hotel for longer stays.

“Price is the main attraction of this place”

This hotel is fine. It's old and basic but cheap so good value for money. It's a budget place which is reflected in the facilities but also in the price. For example there's no kitchen only a small old low powered microwave in the dining room and 2 toasters. Staff also not helpful as I had an issue with my kettle and thought my kettle had broken when it was that my power board circuit breaker reset button had popped out for some reason (don't know why as I was only using a kettle so again maybe it's just cos it's an old power board as everything there is old). Instead of spending 2 seconds to tell me about the reset button and suggest I try that first she told me to bring down the kettle, so she made me waste my time running around like an idiot instead of just spending two seconds to tell me to try the reset button first. And then at the end when I told her you should have just told me at the start to try the reset button she retorted that it was my fault since it's common knowledge so I should have known. Don't know her name but she's the maori woman who wears her hair in a bun. Didn't like her to be honest. Rest of the staff were fine. The only complaint I have is something I noticed on the third day of my stay which is that they open all the windows in the dining room and leave them open so sometimes birds can actually fly in looking for food. So that morning I actually noticed two sparrows flapping around the dining room. And of course wherever there are birds there'll be bird poop, like in parks for example. So thanks to my reticular activation system because I noticed this then later I also noticed that on a lot of the chairs there was actually dried bird poop. So they clean the table surfaces by wiping them down but they don't think to clean the chairs so I guess over the years birds have perched on them and pooped and left dried fecal matter on the chairs. And one day I noticed that there was actually some bird shit on one of the black bar counters which I clean myself with a paper towel. So they only think to clean the table surfaces since they're blissfully unaware of the birds and bird droppings issue. I mean the dining room is right next to the main entrance which is left wide open all day anyway so I think there's ample circulation of fresh air without needing to keep the dining room windows open. So if it was up to me I'd only open those windows at night when the main entrance doors are closed.

“Would recommend for Clubbing Groups/ Leisure Stays.”

•Be polite and friendly to the staff ( Reception & Cleaners ) you will be treated like a VIP. •My Booking was a 2 Month Stay. Staff upgraded my room for free for being kind and likeable. [No Joke] (I've gotten free Washing Machine Tokens to wash my clothes.) X1 Token is $4. ✅ Top Tier Luxury Hotel on a Budget in my opinion. [Pro Tip] Bring your own portable cooking appliances to cook freely in your room/ or Lobby Dinning area. •Unless you Booked to stay in the Apartment Rooms with a Kitchenette. × No Catering served at this hotel. ( Feed Yourself ) because... × no Catering Staff. [Note] Reach and use the Sink Taps 💧behind the Dinning Room Bar 🍸 to fill up your Water Bottles. Keep in mind Long Stay Customers/ Travelers = Rooms get serviced every 3-4 Days.

“Clean, Comfortable, Value for Money and Great Location”

I had a fantastic stay at this hotel and would happily return. The location is excellent—close to everything I needed, making it convenient and easy to get around. The cleanliness was top-notch, with the room cleaned daily—thank you to the housekeeping team for keeping everything so fresh and spotless. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall Rating Location: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Facilities: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The TV in the room had only set local channels, and it would have been nice to have a smart TV with Chromecast or streaming options. That said, the Wi-Fi was very good—fast and reliable, which definitely helped. A special mention to Janelle at reception—her customer service was exceptional. Friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. She truly added to the overall positive experience with her helpful nature. Highly recommended hotel!

“Simple, Affordable, and Central – Great for Budget Travelers”

I stayed in an Economy Single Room at Kiwi International Hotel from 3–8 August 2025. If you're looking for a no-frills, budget-friendly option in a central location, this place ticks the boxes. The room was compact but clean, with the essentials covered—comfortable bed, decent shower, and reliable Wi-Fi. No luxury touches, but that’s expected at this price point. Staff were friendly and check-in was smooth. The hotel’s location made it easy to explore the city on foot or by public transport. Noise levels were manageable, though the room insulation isn’t perfect—bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Overall, it’s a solid choice for solo travelers or anyone prioritizing value over amenities. Would stay again if keeping costs low is the goal.
