West of Ao Nang, Klong Muang / Tub Kaek Beach is new to the tourism scene. It has the same stunning coastline as Ao Nang, but it’s much quieter and more secluded. There are fewer shops and facilities here, but this is a welcome trade-off for many visitors.
Most of the accommodation in Klong Muang centers on Tub Kaek Beach, which is the major local attraction. There are a few bungalows and guesthouses in the area, with luxury hotels and resorts dominating the scene.
Activities like sea kayaking and sailing can be arranged in Klong Muang, but more involved sports like rock climbing or scuba diving have to be arranged elsewhere. The same goes for shopping. Beyond a few resort-operated boutiques and local convenience stores, commercial prospects are slim here. It’s a welcome change of pace for tourists who prefer to spend as much time as possible unwinding on the beach or watching the sun set.
The local nightlife is similar. Major hotels in Klong Muang have up-market restaurants and cocktail lounges, but there are few low-key beach bars. There is a pub in town that plays live music on weekends.
Tourists arrive in the region via Krabi Town, which they usually follow with a transfer to Ao Nang. Klong Muang is further on to the northwest, and total driving time from Krabi Town is about 40 minutes.
