기대가 컸던 만큼 실망이 컸던 숙소”
칸차나부리 여행을 계획하고 숙소를 고민할 때 제일 평이 좋았던 곳이고 수영장이 있어서 기대를 많이 하고 갔었다. 가자마자 수영복으로 갈아 입고 수영장을 찾아갔는데 5분도 못 있고 돌아와 씻어내야 했다. 수영장 물맛이 너무 이상하고 심지어 애들이 여기 저기 따갑다고 난리라 도저히 더 놀 수가 없었다. 이번 여행의 주목적이 수영이었기 때문에 수영장 있는 숙소만 골라 다녔지만 락스냄새 살짝 풍기는 곳은 많아도 이렇게 이상한 물맛은 여기 뿐이었다. 짜고 쓰고 도대체 무엇을 넣은건지 참을 수 없는 맛과 냄새에 며칠 동안 애들이 여기저기 발갛게 딱지가 않을 정도로 고생해야 했다. 조식포함이었는데 조식이 뷔페식이 아니고 몇 종 중에 선택인데 빈약하다는 밤부하우스 조식보다 부실하기 짝이 없었다. 옆에 졸리프로그도 맛있다고 해서 일부러 가봤는데 밤부하우스쪽보다 많이 비싸고 특별히 맛있지도 않았다. 졸리프로그 방값보다 퐁펜이 훨씬 비싼데 왜 비싼지 까닭을 못 찾았다.

수영장이 이용하기엔 좋아요~ 방에서 오래 머물지 않는다면 가격이 원체 저렴해서 괜찮아요~ ^^ 방은 오래된지라, 꿉꿉한 냄새 어쩔 수 없구요~ 조식으로 죽종류 이용할 수 있는데, 넘 맛나고 든든하니 좋아요~ 일단 넓직한 공간, 특히, 조식이용할 수 있는 테이블들, 배경에 눈이 행복해져요~^^ 냉장고도 있고, 에어컨도 있고, 저렴하게 이용하기엔 좋아요~ 퐁펜 골목입구에 있는 게스트하우스는 복층으로 된 다인실인데, 900B하더라구요~ 친구들끼리 이용하기엔 좋을꺼 같구요~

장기로 투숙하려 인터넷 후기보고 평이 괜찮아 2일 먼저 예약하고 괜찬다 싶으면 연장하려 하였으나, 첫날부터 예약한 방이 아닌 등급이 낮은 방으로 배정받아 방 상태가 장기로 투숙하긴 아닌것 같아 바로 다른 숙소를 알아보려 돌아다녔네요. 방 침대에 개미가 돌아다니고. 좁고 화장실 상태등.. 다음날 아무래도 예약한 방이 아닌것 같아 확인후 방을 옮겼으나, 이방도 바닥이 나무로 되어 걸을때마다 삐그덕 소리가 나고 화장실 환기가 안되다보니 밤에 자다가 정화조 냄새가 방으로 들어와 잠을깨서 창문을 열고 잤네요. 이튿날 방 차액을 돌려받으려 얘기중 차액만큼 식사로 대신하기로하고 식사를 마친후엔 괴상한 논리로 차액이업다는 황당한 애기로 식사비를 다 지불해야한다는 어이없는 직원 태도에 괴씸한 생각이 들어 논리적으로 따져서 결국 차액을 빼고 일부만 지불했네요.. 직원의 실수로 벌어진 일에 미안한 생각도 없이 고객에 함부로 대하는 태도와 숙소의 위생상태 등 이 숙소는 더이상 나하고는 안맞는 것 같아 다음날 바로 옮겼네요..

Wonderful Staff, Value & Location”
Pongphen is centrally located between Kanchanaburi Rail Station, the River Kwae and other attraction plus Restaurant's and bars. This is my second stay here, where the staff are always entertaining and fun. Many different room types based upon budget, for singles, couples or families. Always very clean with adequate room, and a nice relaxing swimming pool. Food outlets, restaurants, bars and convenience stores well within walking distance. So I was always recommend this guesthouse, to others as my number one choice for this destination.

Stayed in room (deluxe), bed soft (perfect), flat led TV, kettle and coffee and tea, frig,A/C, good shower, lighting good. Only complaint I could say is, no curtain to block out light from coloured window at rear of room, makes watching tv difficult in afternoon or sleeping in day time. Cheaper booking through Agoda and there are good cheap rooms pool side. Close to only night life (boom boom area). Food is great and cheap, Street food 2 minute walk, bars 3 minute walk, staff very helpful. English good. I will be BACK.

We had a good 5 days stay in this guesthouse… front desk and restaurant staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves very good Thai food at affordable price… the pool is right outside our rooms and it’s very clean. The rooms are clean and certainly value for money. The location of this guesthouse is good- near to bars, massage places and eating places .. will definitely stay in this guesthouse again.

Stayed for 2 night's over Thai songkran holiday. Staff very happy to help us and chatted. Breakfast was basic but tasty. Restaurant food was very tasty and great value for money, we ate there every evening.

Family Friendly”
The main tourist road in Kanchanaburi runs from the cemetery at 1 end yo the bridge on the river kwai at the other approx 1.5 mile Pong Phen sits on a small side street just off that so you can walk or taxis available Traditionally this is a back packing area and most hotels in the area are cheaper aimed at this Pong Phen is above the back packing standard and in a much better location than many of the more luxurious riverside resorts that you really need your own transport for It is a small family hotel the staff are friendly and a big plus great with the kids The pool is 1 of my reasons for choosing this hotel it is small in a nice surrounding and perfect for my son learning to swim The surroundings of this hotel are very nice The other reason was i needed a family room. The room was no frills but clean a good size and good sleep i would have liked Coffee facility but you can get hot water at reception The big negative for me was the wifi which was very slow. The food is another big plus the choice on the menu is great and cooked to order great if you want something cooked to your preference but not so good if you are in a big group but the location is good so lots of places to eat 7 eleven pharmacy within a 5 minute walk i visited when the River Kwai festival was on you could walk or motorbike taxi to the bridge but parking at the bridge was awful busy and an excuse to overcharge so hotel location a plus Most of the cheaper hotels around dont have the pool and the better hotels are away from the amenities and lack transport or in my case family room so a good option

Poolside Rooms Great For Groups”
We had 6 people stay as part of a birthday trip. We all had rooms next to the pool, where we could drink, eat, swim, and relax. Staff were accommodating, rooms clean, and air-con works well. This was my 3rd stay at Pong Phen, and won't be my last.

I've stayed here a couple of times now. If you are looking for budget accommodation in an excellent location, and with a very nice pool, Pong Phen has you covered. Rooms are basic, but comfortable enough. The pool belongs in a much higher grade of hotel, and is lovely. It's a 1m walk to all the bars, restaurants, etc out on the main tourist strip.
