We love the lovely view from our room. Cocktails and food are pretty good there. Feeling like in Europe instead of Cambodia. Very nice!

      Don't believe the photos/video”
I went to stay at Koh Kong Bay Hotel for three nights and had two rooms rented for my stay. Upon arrival we were given keys to the rooms and asked (as it states on the website and if you call in) if they could help set us up for any tours of the region or a hike or whatever the region has to offer. They could not. They didn't have anywhere to send us, we were on our own to find places to go and places to discover. As we made our way to the rooms: Room #1's patio door wouldn't close. Room #2's air conditioner wasn't functioning. The staff were good and promptly gave us new rooms. The photos/video on the website, I can't emphasize enough are completely ridiculous. Not even close to accurate. The building is in complete disrepair and the video must have been done when the building was brand new (20ish, 30ish years ago?) or photo shopped by an absolute professional. On top of this, pictures don't pick up smell and illumination in the rooms. The smell that came from the drain in the bathroom, and the water, was something that you had to get used to. The lighting in the room is so horrible you can barely see anything in certain area's and in others overwhelmingly bright with the pot lights that exist in the ceiling. There are no bed lights, so if you want to go to bed you have to get up and turn the lights off at the front door. On top of everything else there is construction. Every single day we all literally had a construction worker on our balcony. Step out of the shower, there's the construction worker on the balcony. Wake up from sleep, construction worker. All day there were construction workers on our unusable balcony. Not only inconvenient but creepy to constantly have a peeping Tom at your window. So what was positive? The staff are very pleasant, as are most Khmer. The bed was actually comfortable to sleep in. The shower had hot water (which in Cambodia isn't a sure thing). The room, for the most part, was clean. Found a few area's that weren't the cleanest

Good stay, still no breakfast though”
I arrived at the hotel at 2am, after a long journey from Vietnam. I've stayed here on a number of occasions and the room standard is still good, the room was clean but the hot water takes a while to come on, probably because the hotel uses a solar hot water system. The night shift guy, who spoke remarkable English didn't give me a wifi password. I was too tired to use the wifi at that time anyway and could have requested it in the morning but had to get going quite early so didn't bother. I found that the hotel has increased it's rates so it's not really great value for money anymore. US$53 for a standard room is way overpriced, a similar room in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Siem Reap or anywhere in Thailand can be found for barely half this price and invariably includes breakfast, which this hotel doesn't. However, other options in town are either low quality backpackerish or overpriced and far away (like the places near the Tatai waterfall and the casino at the border). There is still no breakfast, though a new coffee shop has opened up on the hotel premises next to the car park. The large mugs of hot drinks (hot chocolate, coffee and tea) are absolutely huge and go for just $3! Be careful when ordering a waffle though, because you might receive a mug of hot chocolate instead, even after making it clear 10 times that you want a chocolate waffle (or just any waffle) and this is after already ordering a cup of coffee. Service is also a bit slow.

Location is good near market and restaurant we can enjoy during night time. However, it was bad luck on the day we stayed, the water was cut off for nearly a night. We need to go down to wait for bathing or toilet. No water reserve in such a case and electricity also on and off. It think poor management of this hotel

We paid more for this hotel than we were paying in Thailand, but the standard was much less. Rooms are tired. No hot water. Restaurant has great location, but minimal English. Hotel across the road or next door look better.

Far too expensive and needs a number of improvements ”
The location is great, overlooking the creek. There is a small, basic pool. Internet was good. Rooms are basic but serviceable. Bed was hard but ok with decent linen. Bathroom is fine. We did not eat there - I am not sure they have restaurant facilities yet. But the price this hotel charges is way too high. There were several problems. Worst was the aircon, which struggles to cool the room. I was sweating all night with the aircon on max. The pillows are cheap and very uncomfortable - huge mounds of unyielding foam that heats your head, and it just slides off. I resorted to using a rolled up towel. Some areas are not well-cleaned. The public areas are spartan. When we came to leave they tried - hard - to charge us for more than 3 times the number findrinks we'd consumed. It was a battle to get the staff to accept their account was a fantasy. At half the price this place would have been poor value.

      Not worth the money ”
We had the big room it's quite nice but worn out and not worth the money. The aircon was way to small for the big room, curtains were risen etc. The City is a dirt whole just dust roads no nice restaurants or any shops. Dishes in eatable restaurants where 260 baht what you might not even have to pay in a deluxe hotel in Thailand. There is a sea/river front but only with dirty street food shops and chairs in the darkness. There are nice nature sides that you can do day or two day trips to. But being back to this dirty city in the evening just makes you not enjoy the time. We were at the island it's very nice but no resorts there anymore so you have to sit 4 hours on a long tail boat to go there and back So if you are a backpacker who likes to stay in dirty 7 dollars rooms, eat street food, staying in a dirty city in the evening so you can say you where in a non touristic authentic Cambodian surrounding. Koh kong is the right place for you.

      Waste of money ”
Pros: Extremely friendly staff Close to town, well located Comfy bed Cons: - not at all like on the photos - Very run down (dirty walls, bathroom, pool area more like a construction site but pretty decorated) - renovations seem to be in progress but price is not at all appropriate for the current state of the hotel - breakfast on the other side of the road in a cafe, not very good All in all it seems to have had good times, and may have them in future. But right now it is highly overpriced and you seem to be paying for the Mercedes s class in front of the door and the I phone 7 the managers (We guessed it was them, may be wrong here) use in the pool instead of fixing broken umbrellas that are in process of falling down on their guests at the same time.

Best hotel in town but no breakfast”
This is the review for the second room in my booking. This was actually my 4th stay at this hotel (not 3rd as I mentioned in the other review) and as mentioned already, the door to the standard room was difficult to open and close. While both rooms were functional, they were not outstanding either. The lack of breakfast is a sore point, but otherwise this is still the best hotel inside town itself. Just a short 1 min walk away is Café Laurent, an excellent French-Cambodian-Thai restaurant next to the river open daily except Tuesdays. Plenty of breakfast options are located within a 5 minute walk from the hotel but this may inconvenience guests heading on an early morning boat ride to Koh Kong island or catching an onward bus to Sihanoukville or Phnom Penh.

Best hotel in town but no breakfast ”
I've stayed here twice before, this was my third stay here. This time came with a group of 5 people, so we booked one family room and a separate standard room. The rooms themselves were satisfactory (though the front door of the standard room was hard to open and close), however, it's a pity that the hotel doesn't offer breakfast (they mumbled something about upgrading the dining room first but that project hasn't progressed since my last visit months earlier and indeed it looks the same as back on my first visit in 2014). Despite this, this hotel is still the best in town though without breakfast I have to give it one star less.

3 Nights a Koh Kong Bay Hotel”
Location of the hotel is good, but so are most of the hotels in Koh Kong, as it is a very small town. Second night we noticed some ants in the bed, and by the next morning I was bitten on my legs on several places. Guess cleaning the room is not very up to standard. Hotel provides coffee and tea in the room, but no kettle to get hot water. Pool is small, but ok for a hotel of that size. No breakfast, but some restaurants nearby. Wouldn't stay there again next time.

      Nice riverside hotel”
This was my third stay at the Koh Kong Bay Hotel. To my surprise, we were put up in one of the rooms located in a separate building from the main one, but upon entering the room realized it was much more spacious than the rooms in the main building. The room contained a large bed, sofa, coffee table and space for working. TV channel contained many interesting channels, including one surprising one from India! The room was quite clean and the hot water worked well. Unfortunately, as with my last trip there was still no breakfast on this occasion; hopefully it will be included in the near future. There is a lot of potential for this hotel and for that matter, other hotels in town. However, for now this is still the best place to stay in town itself, though there are a couple of luxury options near Tatai, which are quite isolated as they are both at least 20km away from Koh Kong city.
