The large mugs of hot drinks (hot chocolate, coffee and tea) are absolutely huge and go for just $3!

Simple but pleasant ”
koh kong city is a pretty small place, serving as a base for short-term excursions or going on to thailand, about 8 kms away. the koh kong bay hotel is a simple place located on the river. the rooms are basicly furnished but comfortable and have small balconies. there is a pleasant restaurant overlooking the river, and a decent size pool. the friendly staff at reception speak adequate english, but the restaurant staff speak almost none. english, french and asian breakfasts are served. i ordered a second cup of coffee and had to pay for it. the choice of hotels in the city is very limited. i would certainly be glad to stay at this hotel again. there is another hotel next door, but the restaurant blasts out loud music (karaoke?) in the evenings.
Nice riverside hotel”
This was my third stay at the Koh Kong Bay Hotel. To my surprise, we were put up in one of the rooms located in a separate building from the main one, but upon entering the room realized it was much more spacious than the rooms in the main building. The room contained a large bed, sofa, coffee table and space for working. TV channel contained many interesting channels, including one surprising one from India! The room was quite clean and the hot water worked well. Unfortunately, as with my last trip there was still no breakfast on this occasion; hopefully it will be included in the near future. There is a lot of potential for this hotel and for that matter, other hotels in town. However, for now this is still the best place to stay in town itself, though there are a couple of luxury options near Tatai, which are quite isolated as they are both at least 20km away from Koh Kong city.
Lovely super clean Hote & super friendly Staff”
I must say that when I go back to Koh Kong, I will certainly go back to Koh Kong Bay Hotel, not worth looking elsewhere this is the best place.
Lovely rooms, bar and pool & friendly staff”
We were a group of 3 friends and stayed for 3 nights. Service was excellent and rooms extremely clean and tidy. Rooms are new and decorated with taste, quite luminous. Staff are very friendy and helpful (both reception and bar). The only cons (if I really have to find them) is that breakfst is not included in the price and that the rooms advertised as viewing the garden are facing the road (although in Koh kong there is not really much traffic...). Position is ok and closed by there are little shops and internet point closing quite late (around 10 pm)
Not as nice as thebphotographs suggest”
Let me be clear. Koh Kong is a dump. Don't go there unless you have to. This hotel was fine. Not 4 star but clean and perfectly adequate. Nothing like as picturesque as its photos suggest and a sea view actually means looking onto a river, which when closely inspected, is pretty dirty and unpleasant. The restaurant was ok, but better off leaving the hotel, turning right and walking 40 meters for a superb french place with comparable prices. Overall, the place was satisfactorary but as I said, Koh Kong is a complete dump and unless you have a pressing reason you should never go there. If you must go there, as the hotel to call "mr harry", the best tuk tuk driver and guide in town. Absolute top boy!!
nice place near to teh center and with river view”
despite that we book the mor eexpnesive room to have the river view it was not possible to have one with the river view (our romm very large have a balcony looking to the road. I suggest that you ask for a room at teh first level as in teh ground its look more sad, and with river view. We did the boat trip to the Koh Kong island, where teh same owner have an hotel. The boat broke in a middle of the sea, and the trip back was difficult! But we come back safe at midnight. Take care of the sand flies on the beach...
Fantastic hotel ”
This is a very nice hotel to stay, especially in a place like Koh Kong, where there is nothing to do in the evening. Maybe a bit more expensive but well worth the price. Best location in town, near the water and bridge.
Centrally located hotel ”
We originally booked one night, but after deciding to stay in Koh Kong another day to visit the waterfalls, we looked at a couple of other hotels and their rooms. We decided to stay with the Koh Kong Bay because, although it was more expensive, the room we stayed in was better by a long way - large and light and airy, with a separate comfortable seating area and great window onto the balcony with a river view. Not the most up to date of furnishings or fittings, but nonetheless a very comfortable stay. Pool is not huge, but adequate to swim a few lengths and very welcome on a hot day.
just simply beautiful didnt wish to leave but unfortunately all things must come to an end! the service was impeccable and if i was ever to return to koh kong i will return return to this hotel
Simple with great food, cocktails, wifi, smiles”
we stayed here for two nights before heading to sihanoukville. the service was very friendly and helpful. the aircon and wifi worked really well in the rooms. very comfortable bed and pillows. shower was fabulous. the foods and cocktails by the pool are very delicious. the downsides included that the shower smelled like cat urine and the wood flooring had nails sticking out of it. overall great place even though koh kong itself is not too remarkable.
Nice hotel right on the riverside, nice big swimming pool, breakfast was ok you have a choice of french or american. Koh kong people arent very friendly they are ok on the riverside but not if you go down the sidestreets.
Best hotel in town but no breakfast”
This is the review for the second room in my booking. This was actually my 4th stay at this hotel (not 3rd as I mentioned in the other review) and as mentioned already, the door to the standard room was difficult to open and close. While both rooms were functional, they were not outstanding either. The lack of breakfast is a sore point, but otherwise this is still the best hotel inside town itself. Just a short 1 min walk away is Café Laurent, an excellent French-Cambodian-Thai restaurant next to the river open daily except Tuesdays. Plenty of breakfast options are located within a 5 minute walk from the hotel but this may inconvenience guests heading on an early morning boat ride to Koh Kong island or catching an onward bus to Sihanoukville or Phnom Penh.
We booked this hotel wanting someplace on the river with a view and a pool. After reading the latest reviews we only booked one night. Fortunately we found the hotel was everything we wanted and we stayed four nights. There were no bugs in our room or bathroom. We had plenty of hot water, the air-conditioning worked quietly and well and the breakfast was outstanding. Furthermore the beds were new, the sheets changed daily, the towels fluffy and thick. The flat screen TV had cable that got CNN, CNBC and several other English stations. I must also say the dining room staff were everything one could ask for. Their English abilities a nine or ten. On our second morning they knew how we liked our coffee and that we preferred more mango and less pineapple on the fresh fruit plate that came with our breakfast. If I had to find one problem with the hotel I'd note the landscaping needed some work. It was the dry season so that may be why. Definitely I will stay there again on my next trip to Cambodia.
Good stay, still no breakfast though”
I arrived at the hotel at 2am, after a long journey from Vietnam. I've stayed here on a number of occasions and the room standard is still good, the room was clean but the hot water takes a while to come on, probably because the hotel uses a solar hot water system. The night shift guy, who spoke remarkable English didn't give me a wifi password. I was too tired to use the wifi at that time anyway and could have requested it in the morning but had to get going quite early so didn't bother. I found that the hotel has increased it's rates so it's not really great value for money anymore. US$53 for a standard room is way overpriced, a similar room in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Siem Reap or anywhere in Thailand can be found for barely half this price and invariably includes breakfast, which this hotel doesn't. However, other options in town are either low quality backpackerish or overpriced and far away (like the places near the Tatai waterfall and the casino at the border). There is still no breakfast, though a new coffee shop has opened up on the hotel premises next to the car park. The large mugs of hot drinks (hot chocolate, coffee and tea) are absolutely huge and go for just $3! Be careful when ordering a waffle though, because you might receive a mug of hot chocolate instead, even after making it clear 10 times that you want a chocolate waffle (or just any waffle) and this is after already ordering a cup of coffee. Service is also a bit slow.
Nice enough hotel. A little overpriced.”
We booked this hotel last minute and the only available room was a super/deluxe one (their highest priced room). Unfortunately, on arrival we were given a very substandard room in an out-building (damp patches, musty smell). Only after complaining were we offered a much better room upstairs in the main hotel (presumably the super/deluxe room we had paid for). This room was huge and very clean with a nice view of the river and a large balcony. Unfortunately the lock to the room was a bit broken so it didn't feel very secure, but the hotel as a whole did so it wasn't too much of a problem. The location of the hotel was great, right on the river and close to lots of restaurants/bars etc. We were in Koh Kong during the Sea Festival when there were lots of festivities going on and a huge number of visitors. The hotel felt right in the middle of the hustle and bustle (in a good way)although on a normal day I'd imagine it is pretty peaceful.
Probably one of the nicer hotels in Koh Kong”
Koh Kong is a small town, it's just as simple as that. On mainland Koh Kong, this is probably one of the better hotels to stay at in the area. It's also located in a convenient spot. The restaurant has good food and beverages, the rooms are pretty clean, the staff is nice, the hotel looks semi-classy, the pool is decent, they let me switch rooms after a couple days because I was unhappy with my first one. So, now the negatives, at least in my personal experience: My first room had little tiny red ants all over that bit me constantly (it's Cambodia though, in a small town, a case of "you have to remember where you are at"), my initial restaurant experience consisted of extremely poor and slow service (however it turned 180 degrees after I complained enough times and then became speedy and excellent service) and the only free breakfast I let myself experience consisted of bread and jam and nothing substantial. Also the restaurant is overpriced. To end on a good note, the sunsets are stunning viewed from the restaurant exterior seating area.
Don't believe the photos/video”
I went to stay at Koh Kong Bay Hotel for three nights and had two rooms rented for my stay. Upon arrival we were given keys to the rooms and asked (as it states on the website and if you call in) if they could help set us up for any tours of the region or a hike or whatever the region has to offer. They could not. They didn't have anywhere to send us, we were on our own to find places to go and places to discover. As we made our way to the rooms: Room #1's patio door wouldn't close. Room #2's air conditioner wasn't functioning. The staff were good and promptly gave us new rooms. The photos/video on the website, I can't emphasize enough are completely ridiculous. Not even close to accurate. The building is in complete disrepair and the video must have been done when the building was brand new (20ish, 30ish years ago?) or photo shopped by an absolute professional. On top of this, pictures don't pick up smell and illumination in the rooms. The smell that came from the drain in the bathroom, and the water, was something that you had to get used to. The lighting in the room is so horrible you can barely see anything in certain area's and in others overwhelmingly bright with the pot lights that exist in the ceiling. There are no bed lights, so if you want to go to bed you have to get up and turn the lights off at the front door. On top of everything else there is construction. Every single day we all literally had a construction worker on our balcony. Step out of the shower, there's the construction worker on the balcony. Wake up from sleep, construction worker. All day there were construction workers on our unusable balcony. Not only inconvenient but creepy to constantly have a peeping Tom at your window. So what was positive? The staff are very pleasant, as are most Khmer. The bed was actually comfortable to sleep in. The shower had hot water (which in Cambodia isn't a sure thing). The room, for the most part, was clean. Found a few area's that weren't the cleanest
nice location on the river. clean, good internet”
convenient place to stay in koh kong. everything satisfactory for the price. no complaints. stayed there on my trip in both directions - going to sihanoukville and coming back
Lovely Hotel-Great Location”
located in koh kong overlooking the river.scenically very beautiful however during wet season there is little to do but relax by the pool or have a sauna. There is not much to see in Koh Kong itself but when the waether is okay there are trips to the mountains, islands etc. Enjoyed our stay totally and will be back.
Nice riverside hotel ”
This was my second stay at this hotel but the first time for my family. We arrived by car from Thailand in the afternoon and stayed for 3 nights. On our first night, we were the only guests who stayed but on the next two nights plenty of rooms were occupied, mainly by western travelers but also at least one Phnom Penh based expat and his driver. Check-in was quick and efficient, we were quickly shown to our room. We booked the family room, which is the biggest room in the hotel, consisting of one main room with queen bed, TV, sofa, desk, closet and fridge and a bedroom with 2 twin beds and the bathroom. There is also a balcony running the width of the room with seating outside. Hot water worked but since it's a solar system I suspect it would be cold on cloudy days or in the early morning sometimes, if it hasn't received enough sunlight the previous day. Unfortunately, no breakfast was served since they are apparently renovating the breakfast room and poolside bar. However, we would find that few other hotels in town serve breakfast either. This was a disappointment and could be an inconvenience for guests who like to have breakfast at their hotel before going out or guests who have booked an early morning tour who then have to find a place to eat outside. This hotel has potential but in order to lift it's game it needs to offer a proper buffet or good ala carte breakfast, open a riverside restaurant, re-open the pool bar or otherwise perhaps reduce the price of their rooms. Our room was about the same price as two separate standard rooms and for this money in Thailand one can find far better value. Instead of A$80 a night (US$52) for the family room it should be about A$50-60 or US$30-35 at most. Standard rooms listed at US$27 at the hotel or A$40 should be about US$18 or A$30 or so, especially since they don't come with breakfast.
