    Nightmare in Paradise”

Even though our Bungalow was the closest to the beach... The overall conditions were terrible! The breakfast which was included, was ok... The Staff wasn't really friendly and seemed kind of moody. The Room itself was really bad... I don't have a problem with basic, but this was out of this world. Furniture was 30 years old, the mattress was literately just junk, I had back pain every morning... there aren't really sheets, and if so they were damaged and dirty. NO WIFI ! No additional Towels... Lets not talk about the bathroom its as bad as you would think after stepping in the bungalow. Besides that Koh Ngai ist breathtaking! The Island is a dream come true and I would totally recommend it, just stay at a different resort.

What a place to stay at..”

    Beach, Cheap bar and restaurant.

The best things about this place are that it's on the beach, has an okay/cheap restaurant & bar. You're first greeted by a ladyboy (about 95% boy, 5% lady because of the female clothes she's wearing). She tried to stick around in my room. There's luckily a cute and polite receptionist. The owner of the place does walk around with her dogs. It's an island, we don't need dogs here to ruin the nature even more than us humans do already. The bathroom and rooms are not clean. The rooms are old. There was a big fire behind the hotel. The fire initially started next to a water pump. Then 2 guys at the water pump didn't do anything about the fire. Then some western looking guy who I believe works at the hotel or works on the island tried to douse the flames with water that came from that water pump. He seemed really concerned about the fire heading towards the house.. and not the hotel. Any other Thai people there didn't do anything or very casually tried to stop the flames. I was desperate to put out the flames heading towards the hotel rooms. Some guy just had some water bucket but he didn't even try that hard to put it out.. Non-hotel issues.. the guy at Pak Meng Pier organising transfers to the island and trang city can't remember anything at all.. Tell him where you are going 5 times. Then there's the big and large van driver. He had a collision with a motorcycle and i don't believe he has regards for life judging by the way he drove. I was hanging out at fantasy spa and resort which has good service, i ate there and took tours from them the whole time I was there.

rooms okay but staff very unfriendly ”

The location is excellent right on the beach, the view from the beach hut we had was stunning and the room was okay for the price we paid.

Our overall stay here was good, the only let down was the staff in Reception and the restaurant. The food was standard and the staff are walking around miserable, lazy and unfriendly, my boyfriend ordered a ham burger from the menu, thinking it would be a beef burger but instead the waitress brought out a Chicken burger and told him that is a hamburger exactly what you ordered. After the first day we ended up eating elsewhere, also the wifi gets switched off at 9pm.

    The budget/backpacker's choice”

Location, breakfast included in price, the view

We really enjoyed our stay at Koh Ngai Villa's. We rented one of the cheapest fan bungalows and were lucky to get the one right by the beach (literary almost on it) - b99. We had an amazing view for a budget price. However, we've been backpacking for over a year and have low expectations. For those on a short holiday here or don't like roughing it a little, don't book the cheapest bungalows as they are in need of a serious refurbishment! However, for backpacker's this place is ideal and it was clean. The breakfast included in the price is really good too. The other meals aren't great (bit salty and lacking a lot of the usual spices you normally get in Thai food (maybe we chose badly...) - go to Koh Ngai Camping instead.

    Our only super budget stay”

    Location, location, location

Very unfriendly staff welcome when we got off the boat. Room was in poor condition, no flushing toilet, toilet placed in the centre of bathroom, sink was leaking. Rooms looked like part of old barracks. Luckily we got moved the next day to a nicer bungalow. In the words of my son: "still rundown, but better looking"

    cheap, good value”

    simple, nice, clean,

nice and clean place, good value, food good, especially if you ask to put less sugar into it. disadvanatge: no comfortable chair, beach chair, hangmat or similar to relax in; sand is full of red ants, so there aren't many options.

the food was good, but everything else, including service, was terrible!

the room is very basic, 1 fan, that didn't totally work and was only on a few hours a day; no flush toilet, and holes in window screens. the staff was unfriendly.

    Basic but clean”

Garden, large restaurant area, jungle backdrop.

One of the only budget accommodations on the island. Our room in the guesthouse was basic but clean and perfectly adequate as long as you don't have high expectations!. We had 2 double beds with large mosquito nets. The bathroom was extremely basic, a toilet pot in the centre with bucket flush. The water from the shower was very metallic smelling that we chose not to shower during our time there! I think this must be the natural make up of the water on the island as we couldn't see that the water was being stored in metal containers. The large restaurant has a fair selection of western and Thai food, at typical island prices, average quality. The best thing about this place is the garden setting and jungle backdrop. The beach here is quite windy and the sea a little choppy so you don't get that still, glassy paradise. The whole island is very quiet, mostly new swankier resorts and very little in the way of beach bars and chill out spots. Definitely take a walk over to paradise beach. There is no development and the beach is protected from the winds.
