Nice Establishment ”
I love Koh Tao Hillside. Compared to the price and what they had provided us, it was a great deal. I traveled with my bff and everything went so good. Hotel does have quite a dramatic landscape but that allows you to have extraordinary view. they provide buggy car to move up and down the hill (from room areas to lobby and main road) Pool, bar and restaurant are lovely.
Need to be in shape”
Wow!! This place can be a death trap ! Food and bar were very overpriced. Pool was clean the first day but second day it was so cloudy and gross we wouldn’t even put our toes in it. Everything was old but useable. By the pool. The walk from the street to the lobby was enough to take your breath away. Nothing but stairs and steep climbs up and down to everything. We are young fit people and we found it a struggle getting around. Probably 6-8 flights of steep incline stairs from the lobby to our room. No access other than by foot. the access to the pool and beach area I thought I was going to fall right onto the rocks below as the stairs are all out of rotting wood and missing half the nails. Overall not a place for any child, or anyone with mobility issues watsoever. We enjoyed our cabin and it was clean and nice. It was the overall landscape of the hotel that made us move after 2 nights because we were sick of doing that climb multiple times a day.
Shabby hotel in quiet location”
We stayed in Hillside resort for four nights after traveling in South-east Asia for four months and I have to say this was the most disappointing experience so far! The hotel located quite far away from everything and although we knew it in advance, it’s definitely a big con. The resort area/environment was all hill and stairs after stairs, so it wasn’t easy to walk around from our room to pool or restaurant, even if we are fairly young and in good physical condition. I would not recommend this place for those who aren’t in good shape -there’s no easy access to places in there. Another thing I want to point out, is the condition of our standard villa. It for sure wasn’t up to our standards, and we’re not even picky people. Here’s some examples: the tap in the bathroom was very inconvenient since you had to push it all the time in order to get water. Also the plug in the sink was broken and we had to ask the staff to do something about it. Our ”kindsize” bed was actually to single beds pushed together and one of them crashed in the first morning when I woke up (and I’m quite a small young women). On top of that the room was dirty when we checked in (half used shampoo bottles, stains in the floor etc) and even though we told the staff about it they didn’t improve in the cleanliness but instead housekeeping forgot bags of rubbish laying on the floors, did not change our towels even once and even claimed we had taken beverage from the minibar. Consequently the receptionist didn’t believe we had not taken them and tried to force us pay the bill. Last but not least: we had bought a transportation from the hotel to the peer for the morning of our check out, but the staff had apprently forgotten to inform the driver about it and we almost missed our ride (at 5am). Luckily we had the reciept so we could prove him we really had booked it. Having said all this (and I don’t wanna be mesn, just honest) I must say something positive: the views from pool were nice and the smal
Good views rude staff ”
Front desk staff chose to help me last even though I arrived at the desk first. They acted like I was inconveniencing them. The hotel has great views but not of the sunsunset. The hotel is on a cliff so the staff will take you on the golf cart ride of your life to drop you and your bags off and up the hill if you call them but you have to walk down to your room. NO WIFI. Nice pool and overlooks. Snorkel for rent but you must jump off the dock as walking in on the little beach will hurt the coral and your feet. Staff woke us up at 8:30 am by knocking on the door to ask when we would check out then did loud gardening all around our room. No bathroom door, just shower curtain.
The room should have the door for toilet! A girl in reception sometimes she being non help to convince for customers. The room is too old and you should have proper king bed no matter what room type because I paid for king bed but I had twin bed which is being convenient for me and friends. The Aircon is always cut down even in the morning when I still in bed and the aircon is not cool
Great location and beautiful view”
You get what you pay for and this is a discount resort. I had an amazing view and a nice little bungalow. Only negatives were the place was empty, the wifi was nonexistent, and the food was over priced. Besides that very beautiful place to go with a loved one or friends. Not by yourself.
Nice place ”
This hotel was nice but climbing up the hill everyday was a nightmare sometimes you would get lucky and they would give u a lift in there golf buggy. Food and drink were nice but overpriced and you can get massage at hotel but again overpriced. Pool was great and the jetty pretty cool u can jump off or just go snorkelling we had nice time here would recommend but if u don't wanna climb hills all day than maybe not.
Best Place to Stay in Koh Tao”
Absolutely amazing. Staff was outstanding, the sea view bungalow was amazing, the view was great, the pool is beautiful.. yes it is quite a walk to your bungalow and back up the hill but they do provide golf cart service. We would stay here again!! Thank you!!
Do not stay here. Even at extreme discount price this resort is not worth it. Trash everywhere, from the entrance all the way through the resort. The rooms need a lot of maintenance and have needed that for a long time. I did NOT book a room with breakfast included, the only good choice, because it was way overpriced when booking in advance. I will never stay at this resort again.
Good: The view and some of the amenities are superb. Bad: We are a young fit couple and even for us going up and down the step hill was impossible, they will just take you to the room with the golf car for the check in. The rooms and the place are quite worn out, they could have a very high quality place if they fixed and improved some small things. There was not wifi almost anywhere.
The location is really good if you want to relax far from the most crowded area of the island. The hotel was cozy and nice but it definitely needs some maintenance as it feels old and a bit dirty. The staff was friendly and always willing to help. The restaurant was good but a bit pricey. The most important thing to consider is that the Hillside of its name is exactly what it is. You will walk up the steep hill if you want to get out of the hotel or go down to the pool or beach and then back to your bungalow. The good thing is you can call a golf car for the ride. It was a good stay overall.
Hotel was not the same as advertised ”
The resort is a lot older then depicted in photos. Although the view and staff were great, I would not have paid so much for this places, as it was not worth it. The location is also a bit of an issue because you end up having to pay extra to go into town. Food available at the hotel was expensive and not much else around. If the prices were lower then it would be a nice place to stay. Unfortunately, the price of the bungalows and extra expenses incurred were not worth it. In addition, wifi is only available in the main areas not in individual bungalows which was quite misleading!
A lot of stairs”
They will give you golf cart rides up but not down which will make for a long journey if you are on the island and want to go into town. We were doing our dive training so we had classes a lot and this just added unneeded time to our day. They also use WhatsApp to communicate but never respond in a timely manor. Nice location but could use to customer service.
Great place on Ko Tao!!!! ”
I booked this place without quite looking at the reviews, and after reading them I was regretting my decision. However, luckily they were quite misleading!!!! Yes it is on a hill and there is some waking involed (not the end of the world - however if you have mobility issues I would not recommend at all) but what else would you expect from a hillside resort. They do provide golfcart service to pick you up from the room if need be but I did not use it because honestly who doesnt want a little exercise when on vacation anyways ( Infact I was happy to walk the stairs everyday!). The employees were all super kind, helpful and pleasant. The room was nice and clean no complaints at all. The pool was great and of course the incredible view! Yes it is not a 5 star resort that one might be used to but it is comfortable and you get what you are paying for. As for the walk into town, maybe 15 minutes or so quite a nice walk as well, although you can rent some motorbikes cheap 150 baht nearby.
Very Nice and good exercise for Your legs:-) Beautiful sunset viuw...Loved it
Stunning setting, some gaps in setup”
Gorgeous panoramic views, nice salt water pool and beautiful dock you can jump right into the ocean. An amazing setting if not a little far from the action. Given the fairly “remote” location (vs a place in the heart of town) the single dining/drinks option is priced as you would expect. The quality of the Thai food was at best middle-of-the-pack for our trip over all. We were thankfully able bodied as the terrain between facilities and accommodations would be difficult to traverse for anybody with any mobility or fitness issues. Staff friendliness hit and miss, but seemed as though the resort was understaffed as no representation at the pool for either towels or kayak/snorkel rentals. Had to ask in the restaurant for somebody to assist.
Do not stay here”
Wouldn’t be surprised if they told me i’d walk into a trial on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here to be honest. The huts are old and falling apart, we booked for 6 nights but left after 1 as there was a Gecko living between the walls which woke us up every hour with its screaming and mozzies were coming in through the cracks in the huts walls. The place needs a lot of money put into it, the pool was dirty (apparently cleaned every day) the towels were old and manky, the toilet was dirty and the whole place just needs some maintenance. Please don’t underestimate the hike you will be making each day to get from your hut to reception/breakfast and back, some parts seemed vertical! Cannot fault the staff who were friendly and couldn’t do enough for us but unfortunately the resort isn’t what I expect it once was. I advise staying in the town for less money and for a better location. Tip: Use the pier and get a taxi boat to the main beach if you decide to stay here, will cost around 150b
Away from crowds, well maintained bungalows with everyday room-service, excellent sea-view located on hillside covered with trees, bushes and flowers. Beware - all area and paths are very steep.
Pretty nice experience overall. Amazing view from the restaurant and the swimming pool! ”
customer service was awesome!!! super friendly and helpful staff. they are great people! I even forgot a luggage in the room and they brought it to me at the pier...really really cool !! Food was okay, and great breakfast! The only downside was no-wifi in room :'( otherwise I highly recommend!
I arrived to find the hotel had been fully booked despite booking the room. Their mistake meant that I had to find another hotel at short notice which was not great. Worse still they told me they'd put me in a room in the new wing they'd just built only it wasn't a new wing it was some old crappy hotel next door that we had to leave the entrance to get to and they had the cheek to tell me it was the same price! Not cool...
