We had read so many mixed reviews about hotels on Koh Tao that we didn't book anything in advance but just walked around to see what's available. The second I saw the room in Regal I said "we'll take it". The AC is quiet and efficient and the hot water + water pressure are reliable. The 3 pools make it easy to play around with kids. The beach is nice and the bar is a relaxing hangout. For the first time on my travels in Thailand I didn't need earplugs to get a good night sleep. It's worth the money!
superb staff, nice poolarea”
Very helpful staff. We had an motorcykleaccident day two, got free transport to the medical center every morning, got a new room from level 3 to one, helpt us a lot. Swimmingpool nice, could have had mor sunchairs... Cold saltwater in the pool.. Not very good resturant, exept Mega Bacon cheesburger wich was awsome!! Good location, 7 min walk to bar/resturant area. Fealt a bitt off when we arrived, but its not. Pooooor wifi... Going back to stay there 2 more night after 4 nights on another prepaid hotel because of the location and the poolarea. Recomended.
Koh Tao Regal Resort”
the regal resort is definately value for the money. the room is big as is the bathroom. the swimming pool is very large and clean.the hotel is a short walk (along the beach) to the main ferry pier and many restaurants. i recommend renting a scooter and touring around but everything is really within walking distance. highly recommend dolce vita restaurant. i had the home-made fettucini and it was excellent as was the tiramisu. it is one block up from the main pier. also recommend barracda restaurant in sai ree. it is a short and pleasant walk from the hotel. try the ribs, they are very good. highly recommend this hotel.
Nice and clean hotel on a quiet beach.”
My wife and I stayed for 4 night. We really enjoyed our time at Regal. Its quiet but between 5-15m. pleasant walk to center of the town or the diving shops/bars/night life. The walls in the hotel are thin so If some one had one to many you'll be able to hear.Other than that it's a lovely place and we would definitely come back :-)
solid value and good location”
I'm a "comfortable diver" by which I mean I want air conditioning and a nice view of the water, close restaurants, and a comfortable bed, and I'm willing to pay mid-range prices. So this is not the cheap-o hotel, but it's not a 5 star hotel either. For me it's perfect. So stay away so I can get my room when I want it. :-) .
Very good mid-level option”
Great for diving, nice pool, good ocean views, nice friendly staff. 7 minute walk to Sairee Beach and the dive shops around there. 8 minute walk to Mae Haad Pier. There is a short but very steep hill at the entrance. They have a shuttle service. Bed was comfortable, Aircon worked OK. Plenty of room, passable wifi.
Nice hotel although abit tired looking. Lounges around the pool are wooden so uncomfortable to lie on to long, but your right on the beach and a short walk from Mae haad pier.
Good but not there yet”
Facilities need a torough clean, too little staff, english not there yet. Good location (can walk to the town) but no breakfast included and the halls and rooms are a bit disregarded with their maintenance.
Regal is a great choice”
Pros -Great and helpful staff and efficient room service, always woke up to fresh towels, toilet paper and water at my door -Rooms were very good and clean, showers were really nice -fridge worked really good -the pool has 3 seperate spots Deep end, medium depth and a shallow depth perfect for kids -balconys were big and they had drying racks -located on the beach with adequate beach loungers -able to walk about 30 to 40 feet out into the water until you hit coral Cons -my ac sucked big time but i switched rooms that had a brand new ac machine so just ask the front desk to switch -no elevator -my room didnt have a safe but im pretty sure you cab upgrade your room that has a safe -if there is some ignorant people staying on your floor you will hear them slam their door as if it was your door - be causious of broken glass on the beach...we all know how shity a deep cut on the bottom of the feet are All in all its a awsome place to stay for the price. I approve!
Helpful staff, free taxi, large room, everything OK”
There is no elevator, but the staff will take your luggage up to your room and down. There is a free taxi/shuttle to the pier. I was on a dive trip and this was a 5 minute walk to the dive shop. Restaurants are handy. Everything is walkable. Staff is friendly, understanding and smiles, not every hotel is like that at Koh Tao. No noise problems. Definitely recommend.
Wanted nice but basic - exceptionally poor service + safety issues. ”
Young couple - wanted something nicer than a hostel but nothing special as mostly away from hotel. Pretty disappointed. First night we went to restaurant... ordered and waited 1.5hrs to then be told they'd run out of pizza (weren't offered drinks etc on the meanwhile either). Big group (only other customers) got up and left at this point because they'd been waiting for two hours for food... we were then offered theirs (two pizzas as it happens...). We accepted and had to pay full price. I made a complaint to receptionist following day - said she'd tell the manager and get back to me that afternoon. She didn't. Safety: Came back after a day snorkelling - cleaner had left our room door open and balcony unlocked. There is no safety deposit box in rooms. If you want to get room cleaned you must leave key in an open pot at reception (customer side) - reception is often unattended so nothing stopping anyone taking your keys. Anyone wanting value luxury should avoid.
Awesome place to stay for the price we got. First morning we woke up with ants in our bed, but after telling reception we didn't have any bug problems the following days. Ended up staying an extra two nights after our three originally booked. Not a super social hotel but 5 min walk to the main beach. Super close to the pier. Clean pool. Staff did not make you feel the most welcome but were nice enough.
Good hotel, no safes, pool good however lots of broken tiles. don't expect to be alone in the pool as it seems to be Crystal divers second home at least two classes a day in the pools, great location right on the beach 10 minute walk to sarrie beach.
Great Time ”
Based on reviews I had read, I decided to walk along the beach to get to the Koh Tao Regal Resort. It was less then a ten minute walk and easy to find as it looks exactly like the pictures posted on Agoda. I was a little concern about trying to register early because the ferry arrives very early, but that was not an issue at all. My room was ready at that time and I was brought straight to my room. They brought me to the wrong room at first, I had book at pool view and they tried to put me in a standard room, but I just showed them my booking again and was immediately moved to the room I booked, without any issues. As soon as you enter the hallway to go to your room, you can tell the hotel is dated. The halls are kinda dark and the design is outdated. The room itself was clean, spacious and nice but again a little dated. Very heavy black wood furniture filled the room and all of it could use a fresh coat of paint. The bathroom appeared to be a recent upgrade and very nice. One of the first things I noticed was the large rain shower head, but when I turned on the shower was disappointed that the shower head was so caked with grim that hardly any water came out at all and most of the holes were blocked. The pools were amazing and I spent most of my time in them. Being right on the beach was very nice too. The water was clear and and the beach only had a bit of garage on it. The food at the restaurant was OK. The wait staff's English was not that great and had to couple mix ups but nothing to stress about. I did not have any issues to have to interact much with the other staff so I can not really comment on them. They were friendly, with a smile and a hello but that was the extent of my interactions with them. If you are looking to just hang out at the pool and the beach this is a great place to do so. Overall, I very much enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Koh Tao itself was a little less than impressive for me however.
Great location, nice room, everything we needed”
We booked for 4 nights and ended up staying 8! The room was a great size which is important for us as we both need to get work done while holidaying too. Never felt cramped or on top of each other. Staff are very helpful, pools are nice, only thing we didn't try was the food because there is so much great food to try so close by. We found finding somewhere to stay on Koh Tao difficult (going on reviews) because every place has such conflicting reviews, but we lucked out by choosing this place. Highly recommend!
Like the owners let their kids run the place”
4th time on Koh Tao for diving and I'm used to roughing it. The issue here Is the staff seem bewildered and unable to provide the basics. I left one morning at 7:00 am and the young guy sleeping on the couch in the lobby was all there was for staff. I needed to wake him to get my key and leave laundry, but you'd think I disturbed a pissed off teenager to cut the grass on a Saturday morning. He did his best to show his sour face, getting me the key and taking my laundry bag. B the next day I asked the girls behind the counter if my clothes were done and they said they would check. The next morning I checked again and same girl had no clue, then I saw the still dirty laundry bag with my name and room number printed on it as I left, sitting beside her on the counter. "Oh solly ready next day". Here we went again. It's an ok place but deserted, few customers, which is perhaps why the parents have run off and left the kids behind to run it, or the kids tell them "everything's fine, no need to come to the hotel Dad"... As they drive it into the ground. So sense of welcome, room cleaning is more of a gesture, and try not to wake the ass on the lobby sofa. Lots of other choices. They don't seem to appreciate the business. C from Canada
Close to beach with a big pool”
We enjoyed our stay. The hotel does require a major renovation but otherwise everything are in working order. We liked to big swimming pool but it was regularly used by diving classes during the day. The hotel is within walking distance from the ferry piers especially if you walk along the beach just after the piers (with light luggage only). We paid a reasonable price as it was on sale at Agoda. We recommended this hotel for its value for money and comfort.
Beautiful location and helpful friendly staff.”
Our stay was great! The room was clean with lots of room and a lovely bathroom - wet room with two shower heads, great! The staff were very friendly and helpful with any qiestions. Unfortunately the spa was being refurbished so cannot comment but the three pools are great and the location is fab as it's slightly quieter with a lovely beach. As with most places we went to eat, sometimes we weren't sure what we were ordering but everything was delicious!
Certainly value for money. Nice quiet location right between Sairee Beach and Mae Haad. Accomodating reception staff. Nice room. You can see several places that it might need to be renovated. However, it was nice and clean and lacked nothing. I would definitely choose to stay here again, and also recommend it.
A really lovely clean hotel for backpacker 4 stars”
Clean room. Good maid services. Free transfer to pier. Couldn't be happier. Also seemed very LBGT friendly. Guests weren't huge skins either. Free breakfast would have been nice. Booked on deal for deal
