Nice experience for our first time staying in Tatami Room”
The cozy Komatsu Ryokan is just 5 minutes walk from the Inaricho station of Tokyo Metro, or 15 minutes walk from JR Ueno. The host was a very nice old lady when we checked-in, who gave us welcome drink, stated clearly to us the house rules, showed us the pantry, toilets, bathroom, etc. Our room is as expected small, which could barely open 2 suitcases at the same time, and lay 2 Futons side by side together. However, for staying only 1 night we think it is a great deal in terms of price and convenience. Besides, everything is clean and well-maintained, and unexpectedly we had a very good sleep. I would love to come back again next time when I visit Tokyo. From our room the windows are locked. Sunlight could come in but you cannot see anything outside from the window, so please be prepared for that.
Perfect for us !”
We had a great stay at the Komatsu Ryokan. We stayed for 8 nights and enjoyed every one of them. The room small but we had everything we needed : towels, a yukata, tea, cups, glasses and futons of course ! There are 4 shared toilets for 5 bedrooms so that is more than enough. And there are also two washbasins : one downstairs and one upstairs. The shower was very convenient : we could shower together as there are two showers in the same room. The kitchen corner is also very convenient for breakfast. The staff was also very nice to us : discreet and efficient. The location is also great : Ueno, Kappabashi, Asakusa, Yanaka, Akihabara and other districts are within a walkable distance from the ryokan... and you can easily reach many metro/JR stations in 5 to 15 minutes. We highly recommend this place... and we would go back tomorrow if we could :) All this at a very reasonable price ! Perfect.
Fantastic service, close to the action and typical Japanese style!”
A great little Ryokan, our room was just big enough to fold out the futons and have our packs open. The only other space was the genkan (for taking on and off shoes) and a little table with complimentary tea/coffee etc. As we are really only here to sleep this was all we needed. The staff were polite and in typical Japanese fashion when we could not find the place, a staff member came and collected us and walked us back personally. At the front door we were greeted with a sign with our name and flag of nationality alongside the other tenants, which was a nice touch. There is only a single shared shower on the ground floor and steep steps to the rooms. I recommend this place to anyone wanting to be in walking distance of the cultural sights that Ueno has to offer and who spends all their time out exploring, only to come home late to start it all again the next day. Thank you Komatsu Ryokan!
Komatsu Ryokan is about 750 m (9 min) walk from the Ueno JR Station, 400m (6 min) from Shin-Okachimachi Oedo Line Station, and 260m (3 min) from the Inaricho Ginza Line Station. This location is not bad for public transportation, and is also within a few minutes walk to the bustling Ameyoko market. It might be a bit hard to find because it is not situated on the main road, even our cab took sometime to find it, so it's better to print a location map if you are walking from a train station. The ryokan is more like a hostel, not a traditional Japanese ryokan, but at least you got to sleep on tatami. The place is very new, all the toilets and bathroom are in perfect condition. The downside is that the space is a bit small and cramped, and there is only one bathroom to be shared among the 5 or 6 rooms. The place is also very near to a 7-11, a Family Mart, and a Sukiya rice chain. The walk back to the ryokan at night might be a little dark and quiet but there don't seem to have any danger as we see it. The owner is a very friendly guy, and is always very helpful (but then again, my experience with all Japanese service personnel is mostly pleasant.) Compared to a proper hotel, this place might loose out in luxuries like attached bathroom, TV, proper bed, etc. I'd say, if the price of ryokans like this is significantly lower than a hotel room on your list, then it is worthy for a stay.
Thank you so much”
My mother and I went for Mt.Fuji climbing and we stayed at Komatsu Ryokan 1 day before and after. It was our first time in Tokyo. The owner was so kind to keep our luggage in the room without charging us extra. We are impressed by the cleanliness and the tidiness of the facilities. It has been a very pleasant stay and we would recommend Komatsu Ryokan to all our friends.
Clean, comfortable, unique experience”
Initially we had some problems finding the ryokan because we did not have any wifi access. After having traveled down from Hakone, we were pretty tired out. So we decided to approach a family mart, luckily the cashier know how to speak chinese and he could sense that we're lost. He was nice to tell us where our ryokan was and good thing, it's just down the street! Sense of relieve. After stepping into the ryokan, we were amazed that the place was so clean and neat. It's a very very nice ryokan. We were directed to our room which has an attic to it. We were so happy that we slept in the attic without air conditioner on (we just opened the window slightly to let the wind in, it's winter!). Save electricity, make use of the nature :) There was a total of 3 futons available in our special room. After settling down, we checked out the shared bathroom. It was sparkling clean and new. Hair dryer and brand new toothbrushes are available for use for free. The toilet was clean with "heated toilet seats". There's no curfew for this ryokan, Light will be off after 12am . But if you have to come back after 12am, we'll have to use the back door (door unlock code will be provided by the owner upon arrival). In the next morning, we actually found out that it's about 10 minutes walk to the main Ueno Station. Ameyoko is near to the Ueno station and it's a bustling market that you'll need to visit. Overall we can say that this is the best accommodation that we stayed during our 14 days trip in Japan. We'll definately recommend it to everyone out there, you won't regret it :)
We are a group of 4 friends (all girls) and we stayed here when we went to Japan. The owners are very welcoming and very kind. They even gave us green tea as welcoming drinks. They have a translating device to suggest where to go and what to ride. There is only 1 female and 1 male toilet and 1 shower room. It is only a small accommodation and is located approximately 15 minutes from the nearest subway station. The neighborhood is also very quiet. When it was our time to leave the ryokan, they gave us a handwritten letter in our language with some green tea sachets and chocolates. We were very satisfied and happy with our stay here in Komatsu Ryokan.
Top choice if you're after traditional ryokan in Tokyo”
Ryokans are so difficult to find in Tokyo so this accommodation is sure a catch! Tatami-matted rooms, shared bathroom and toilets, communal eating/drinking area - Cleanliness is kept to the top. Very friendly and helpful hosts although they speak mainly Japanese. We stayed for 9 days, Ojisan comes out and greet when you headed out for the day and welcome you home in the evening. No cooking facilities but eating places are nearby. Closest metro is Inaricho and Ueno station. Nearby attractions such as Ueno Park and Sensoji are approx 15-20mins walk. Will definitely stay there again when I'm back in Tokyo :)
Value for your money! Great place to stay! Happy memories!”
I booked for 5 days and I am very happy. The owner uncle is very kind and try to help us with everything even though he speak mainly Japanese. I have trouble with my bags and I need to check in late, the owner promptly reply my message and wait for me till midnight. He is very kind and smile a lot. The location in google map is wrong I guess because I cannot find the ryokan when I first use the google map, you have to access the map from Agoda app this map is more accurate. Walk from Ueno station around 10-15 mins. The road from Ueno station to ryokan is a bit quite in the night but not scary I can walk back to ryokan everyday around midnight. You have to be careful if you have large bags because there is no elevator only have stairs. Owner uncle is very kind to help us bring our bags up and down to the second floor. There are toothbrushes, earplugs, shampoo, body soap, towels. The bathroom is only 1 so you have to shower early or late around 1 am like us. Overall I highly recommended!
ขอบคุณมาก Thank you very much for staying at Komatsu Ryokan in Japan. And, thank you very much a long and detailed revieｗ. It was very helpful to know how guests feel Komatsu Ryokan, This heart warming review ,employees and I, all is affected very much. You enjoyed a stay in Japan, and it was really nice. By all means, please come to Japan again ,and in the case, please stay in Komatsu Ryokan again, sir. Best Regards. Owner of Komatsu Ryokan
the ryokan located at a strategic location, easy to access to ueno station , plenty of convenient store around, close to some tourist attraction(Ameya-Yokocho, Senso-ji) the ryokan host by 2 senior citizen. Communicate by english is little bit difficult for them, yet they still provide attentive service. The ryokan owner will wrote down the guest name and origin country on signboard in front of ryokan, a lovely touch. There's only one bath room hence be prepare queue for bath on peak time. The room is spacious enough and design in Japanese style. It's almost no sound proof, therefore not suit for light sleeper Overall, it is good ryokan and recommended for short staying :)
Clean and simple room, well located”
We had a nice stay at Komatsu Ryokan. The staff was very friendly even though their english was very limited. We were warmly welcomed. The room is simple, as you can expect from a ryokan, and quite small, but it is clean and comfortable. Apart from a mettress that you can put on the floor with a blanket, and a small tea table, there is not much. Simple and efficient! Internet is working well. Small kitchen and shared bathroom were also clean and appreciated. The Ueno subway is a 10 minutes walk (with direct train to Narita airport), as well as Shin-okachimachi or Ueno-okachimachi, it is quite convenient. The area is very quiet and peaceful but you can find convenience store and small restaurants in the immediate neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it, great value for money!
Great value for price! Fabulous location, less than 5 mins walk to Inaricho station and 10-15 mins walk to Ueno Station and Ueno Park, which houses a ton of great museums. Hallways can be a bit cramped if multiple guests are trying to get out at the same time, and there is only one bathroom. Luckily, the Kotobukiyu Sento public bath is a 5 mins walk away and I would highly recommend bathing there at least one of the nights you're here. Thanks for the great stay, Komatsu!
Clean, neat and cosy”
Although located slightly off the central parts of Tokyo, Komatsu Ryokan was especially clean, neat and cosy. We had a great stay there. The ryokan was managed by an old couple who was especially friendly.
Convenient location nice staff”
The Ryokan hotel is located near Ueno station where new and old culture mix and fun to walk around. The owner is kind, rooms are nice and cozy, provided with towels, complimentary green tea, tooth brush. Try on Yukata(Japanese kimono style pajamas), and can experience traditional Japanese Tatami mat Life style. The bath and wash room is shared but kept clean and neat so no issues with me with the offered room price.
Love komatsu ryokan”
Stayed at komatsu ryokan for 2 nights. The staff even tough english is tough made my stay really great. Even gave me a cute postcard that I'm not going to use. It will be stored on my box because it has a special memory. Will stay again for sure soon.
A decent place to stay in Tokyo”
You get what you are paying for. The place is pretty clean although shower room and washroom is shared. However, there is only 5 rooms in this ryokan so it wont be any issue at all. The room size is consider spacious for a ryokan in the middle of Tokyo. The place is in between 2 subway Station (ginza line and oedo line) which is quite convenient, 5 mins walk to the subway stations. Overall I think I will recommend this place if you would like to try out ryokan style with a reasonable price
Small, but cozy and great Ryokan”
You get a small room, but for the price you pay, it's great. You don't really need more, you will be out most of the time anyway. The owner is very friendly and helps you with anything you need, even though he doesn't speak a lot of English. Very clean room as well. Good location to discover Tokyo, it's near a subway station and the train station is only twice as far away. The rooms are very noisy, you can hear everything that happens in the room next to you, but there are earplugs provided if you need. The area is very quiet, so there are no loud noises from outside. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in a cheap Ryokan.
Lovely little hostel”
Takes a bit time to reach the hostel if you depart from Ueno JR station with your bulky luggage. But there is no stairs to climb and the instruction the hostel has given is clear enough for everyone to find. You can opt another shorter route from Inari station ( Tokyo metro ) if you can handle the small platforms and perhaps some stairs (? ). The rooms are just fantastic. Traditional and neat. The number of toilets is sufficient, with a common bathroom where you can find toothbrushes and a hair dryer. Towel included in your room, air con works well. Service is great. I may consider revisiting a second time if I travel to Ueno area again.
Komatsu Ryokan is a very nice place, clean, comfy and not so far a way from metro. People there are very friendly and helpful. Stay there was a good decision and I recomend it .
Super séjour au komatsu ryokan. La situation est très bien proche de la gare de Ueno et même à pieds de lieu "touristique ". Çhambre propre avec la climatisation . Les parties communes très agréable et propres. Et le personnel très super. Aller y les yeux fermés.
