I knew I was in for a treat when some friends from San Diego lifted their eyebrows when I said we were staying there and oohed and aahed. Apart from one bartender, the experience was fantastic, with an outstanding room, view, and feel. You are even welcomed with a luxury box of s'mores to enjoy at one of the fire pits overlooking the beautiful marina.

More hidden charges from the online booking price. First night was 4th of July and despite there being plenty of empty tables, they refused to seat of feed my young children, knowing full well that there was nowhere else at short notice we could eat. The restaurant staff remained terrible throughout the stay. Unfriendly and sour faced. Two of the reception staff working the evening of the 4th were great though. Agoda, I keep stipulating that i want free parking and i keep getting charged crazy prices!! Refund me now.

    Broken AC Unit”

We’ve stood at Kona Kai many times over the years, it’s always a great place. This time we were disappointed. As soon as we walked in our room we noticed it a bit warm although the ac was running, we figured it was just turned on since the room had just been serviced before our check in. We lowered the temp. down to 70, give it sometime and go cool down/relax by the pool with our 1 year old daughter. We returned a couple hours later and the room was still warm, we inspected the unit/noticed the unit was barely blowing air and was room temperature at most. We then lowered the temp down to 68 degrees and the lowest (preset) it went down to. We proceeded to get ready and head out for an early dinner. When we returned the room was the same temperature no change. This time we noticed the floor was wet from the unit leaking. We called front desk and were told if no tech was available, it would be serviced following day. No use to us then, we were checking out in morning.

We enjoyed our stay at the Kona Kai Resort. It as a bit out of town and not much walking distance, but the Uber/Lyft rides were only about $6 to just about anywhere. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. I enjoyed my private patio for bikini sunbathing looking out across the bay. The Vessel had amazing Chilequiles for breakfast too!

Run, don't walk, to another hotel on Shelter Island”

On March 12, 2019 I booked a “Bay View Guestroom, 1 King Bed” at the Kona Kai Resort & Spa and received a written confirmation for the same. When I arrived on March 23, 2019 around 3 P.M., at check-in I specifically confirmed with the front desk staff, that my room had a king size bed. After checking in we went off to dinner and didn’t return to the hotel until about 8 PM. When we went to Room 225 in the main building, it contained 2 queen size beds - not the king bed that I booked or was assured by the front desk representative was in the room at the time of check-in. Staff blew off the issue and told us "there was nothing they could do ". The room had a shower/bathtub that literally had holes in it. The management ignored our complaint about this and for 2 nights we were stuck in a room that should not have been in service. On the night of our arrival the fire alarm went off twice. Our room had no bathrobes or amenities yet we were charged a $31 a day "Resort Fee" at check out.

The headboard was in shreds which was not presentable. The room smelled moldy. No screen door on patio. We had booked deluxe room and we were first room at top of stairs above lobby and loud noise from guests most of the night. We had mentioned at checkin that we had early flight so don’t know why they would put us where the noise was so loud. Not happy with stay and will not return!

That was at the regular rooms where we stayed for three nights. Curiously, though, we also stayed at the junior suites, gorgeous, but very noisy. Can’t understand the difference bc the two accommodations are only a few steps apart. It is perhaps the orientation of the rooms? We had breakfast and dinner at their restaurant. Very good food served by very pleasant staff!

    It's was okay ”

Hotel was nice overall. Bit over priced for what you get. I liked the private beach they had. Other than that it was okay..

    Lovely resort like property ”

Thoroughly enjoyed this lovely property and amenities on a recent business trip to San Diego. Felt like I was on vacation! Beautiful property with picturesque grounds and outdoor lounge areas. Highly recommend.

    Above average”

The headboard was in shreds which was not presentable. The room smelled moldy. No screen door on patio. We had booked deluxe room and we were first room at top of stairs above lobby and loud noise from guests most of the night. We had mentioned at checkin that we had early flight so don’t know why they would put us where the noise was so loud. Not happy with stay and will not return!

The night was pleasant and we could hear the seals talking and singing ”

That was at the regular rooms where we stayed for three nights. Curiously, though, we also stayed at the junior suites, gorgeous, but very noisy. Can’t understand the difference bc the two accommodations are only a few steps apart. It is perhaps the orientation of the rooms? We had breakfast and dinner at their restaurant. Very good food served by very pleasant staff!
