It is located central to all the main sites your would like to visit. Traditional rooms including breakfast and dinner (all vegetarian meals) and the food is great. There are 2 seperate bathing areas, 1 is mineral waters while the 2nd one is more traditional and also has outside bathing area, all are separate male and female. I can truly recommend staying here.

                    Enjoyable Temple Stay”

Our stay at Fukuchiin was an interesting experience. We were so glad we had decided to stay in a room with the attached toilet and sink. The halls were very cold since they were not heated. Our breakfast and dinner were very good but we like tofu so it may not be for everyone. The onsen was most relaxing and I was glad I did it. The staff was very friendly and nice. We were surprised when we went to hear the monks chant at 6:00 am that the room was heated. We were very happy about that. The temple has beautiful gardens and is very well maintained. It did seem expensive for what we got but I enjoyed my stay.

                    Maybe try a different place”

The staff member that showed us around did a very poor job like it was a bother. The bath facilities were nice, especially the outdoor area, but the wash area was very dorm room like with plastic stools and bowls like you would have in the yard. Other places we stayed used very nice wooden items. Our room was 9 degrees Celsius when we walked in to it. It had heaters, but apparently no one thought it might be a good idea to turn them on before guests arrive. It took 3 hours to warm it to a normal standard of about 19-20C. They wanted $45 for dinner. (keep in mind this town virtually shuts down about 6pm) Seems a bit on the robbery side. Finally, when we went to breakfast, again with the lack of heat. The heater was right there, but off. We even had a designated time to eat so it could have been habitable. We could literally see our breath in the room. Not a comfortable way to start the day. All that while paying in excess of $300? You decide.

Beautiful grounds. They have a small indoor and outdoor onsen on site which was a real plus. Room was a good size and futons were comfortable. If you are looking for a very authentic temple stay then maybe this is not the place for you. It is a modern temple if you may run like a small hotel. No complaints, had a pleasant stay overall.

Good experience, takes long time to reach this destination, and must check out by 9am. Very rushed stay. Food is Vegan, dinner was good, breakfast was very unfamiliar and different. Prayer session at 6am was very interesting as well. The Onsen is small, and basic. One night stay is sufficient.

                    Not an authentic experience”

Very expensive in comparison to the other temples around, they want to get paid for everything we've been offered for free at our previous temple stays. There is absolutely no heat, so we had to sleep with all our clothes on, even with the air condition on 30 celsius degrees. The temple has a very nice stone garden, but I would not recommend this at all to those who want an authentic temple stay. Feels more like a hostel.

It's expensive yes, but totally worth the price”

Me and my friend stayed in separate accommodations. Him, he stayed in Rengejo-in and I, here in Fukuchiin. Both are totally amazing as all temple-made-accommodation are in this area. In Fukuchiin, the toilet and onsen bath are superb! although you have to walk around naked and bath naked but its cool. they have a sunroom for coffee and tea and common room facing the inner stone garden. they hold calligraphy classes which I missed because I was so relaxed in my room. the monks' service are excellent too... they have a personalized tour inside the temple during check in. breakfast is serve at 7, 7:30 and 8. Dinner is 3000 plus yen. vegetarian of course. All in all, it was a great experience, and I'm happy I stayed here.

OK but book through info service”

There are 52 temples on the mountain, and you can stay in a much nicer temple for almost half the price if you book through the central temple accommodation booking service. The only clear advantage of the "Koyasan Onsen Fukuchiin" is that it has a real outdoor onsen. The temple we stayed in the night afterwards just had a normal big bath (like a sento). However in every other respect it was much nicer (particularly the staff), and was almost half the price.

Only there for one night so didn't get to spend much time at the temple. Maybe later check .

                    Relaxing temple stay ”

We spent two nights at the Koyasn Onsen Fukuchiin. We booked a room with a private washroom (with toilet and sink). There was no shower or bath in any of the rooms so the only way to bathe was by going to the communal showers and onsen. Everything was very convenient - there was never an onsen or bathroom far away so all the facilities were very accessible. The room itself was quite spacious and clean. We were given traditional Yukatas and sandals to wear in our rooms and around the temple. We ate our meals sitting on the floor, and we slept on fairly comfortable futons. Our room also had a regular chair and a massage chair so we were able to give our legs a rest occasionally. Our booking included breakfast but did not include dinner. We ended up purchasing dinner on both nights but it was fairly expensive. The least expensive meal cost roughly 3200 yen per person, per night. With that being said, the meals were absolutely delicious and completely vegetarian. There was also more than enough food at each meal. Overall, we found our stay at Fukuchiin very relaxing -- it really felt like a much needed vacation within our vacation. One criticism I have is that certain elements of the temple appeared to be very touristy. For example, there was a calligraphy class that cost 1500 yen and a gift shop that was very expensive. I would recommend going elsewhere to do your shopping.

Great experience, lovely onsen, but a bit pricey for what you get”

The temple itself is charming. Futons were incredibly comfortable and dinner was served in the room with great ceremony. We booked a room with private bathroom which was a bit misleading, since it was just a sink and a toilet - the temple did have a lovely onsen though.
