Cute little temple with great english”
This is the 3rd traditional Japanese accommodation I've had while in Japan and the only one to explain in clear english the etiquette required for a traditional Japanese stay. It's a tad bit redundant for anyone like us who knows what to do but it would be very nice for someone who had little knowledge of Japanese culture. It's not a hotel but it is a very warm and accommodating temple and although the monks don't speak much english they are very kind.

Outstanding!!”
Without hesitation our best accommodation in Japan! Perfect shukubō, we had a spacious room with no one close to our room, and a private garden. It was extremely quiet to sleep. Japanese bath is welcome after a day of walking. The ceremony in the morning is trance-inducive and impressive, I won't spoil it but you have to live it, you won't forget about it! For that alone, I would have been happy to stay there. The location is really good, 1 minute walk to the Okunoin cemetery. Walking daytime and nighttime are really different experiences but both excellent (I really enjoyed by night, very few people and a mystical feeling). Food is very good too and diversified. It was expensive for us but totally worth it!

Location is perfect, near to cemetery and bus stop. The food is ok, for vegetarian fare. ”
It seems too touristy as they charge you everything in Koyasan area.

Exceptional”
The monks and the staff were very sweet and very helpful. The biggest pro for me was the fact that not only do you get to attend their Buddhist service in the morning (which is standard for any shukubo accommodation in Koyasan), but they also have a Goma Fire Ceremony directly following the service. As far as I could tell, this is the only other temple in Koyasan where you at can attend one besides Eko-in next-door (which is typically booked up well in advance, and far more expensive).

Wow - such a great experience”
I have been to Koyasan several times, but this was my first stay at Kumagaiji. What a treat. The staff were very friendly and helpful, explaining everything on my arrival, both about the room, and how to join the morning prayer ceremony and fire ceremony, if I wanted. The food was both beautiful and tasty. And of course, it's a very short walk to the entrance to beautiful Okunoin cemetery, my big reason for returning here so many times. I would highly recommend a stay here. Enjoy!

Great experience”
It is very close to Okuno-In. This temple is much bigger than it looks and we got lost a couple of times. I enjoyed the morning service and chats with monks. I am not a vegetarian, but I don't eat meat, so I enjoyed the meals. They are very accommodating and made our stay pleasant. Thank you!
