Located in an ideal spot that allows visitors to be at peace with nature, visitors will be lost in the exquisiteness of Kumbukgaha Villa which is spread over 10 acres of private land surrounded by a forest reserve, farm land, paddy fields, and a stunning stream. There are only three rooms, each of them are fully furnished and totally independent with attached toilets and open-to-the-sky showers. The views of the roaming elephants can be enjoyed from the large common verandah with a wooden deck above. To pamper the guests even further, a personal host along with a skilled chef will be appointed to you to discuss your meals.

Perfect getaway if you love nature”
Loved this place. The wildlife was wonderful and every trip out (even to the open air bathroom) was an adventure. Exotic birds, lizards, water buffalo, elephants.... There was an array of animals on offer. Nice staff and good food on offer too. If you like your curry spicy make sure you ask as they will tend to make it to suit the European taste. Alcohol was a little limited but I started to look forward to a lion beer at the end of the day. Go for walks in the area and enjoy the nature
Wished we'd stayed longer”
This was our first stop in Sri Lanka, and we couldn't have hoped for a better place. It is so difficult to choose places to stay just from looking on the internet, but we were so glad that we chose here. It is situated in very peaceful surroundings, the staff were excellent, the food was excellent, my husband especially enjoyed the Sri Lankan omelette for breakfast! We just wished that we had stayed an extra day!! Thank you very much!
Lovely retreat near Sigiriya. It is a place to unwind fully after a day of sightseeing. Accommodation comprised a large room with adjoining outside toilet and shower. This took a little bit of getting used to but you are not overlooked! We ate at the restaurant both nights and were offered a 4 course menu. It was delicious. Breakfast was good too and we enjoyed hoppers one day and omelette the next, as well as fresh fruit. We didn't see elephants in the grounds although we had a good sighting of peacocks. Would happily stay here again.
2 nights stay in Kumbukgaha villa”
Environment calm and peaceful Team very welcoming and efficient Hotel nice decoration very charming Food at the restaurant Small - I would say that pressure in shower might be better and wifi connexion not possible in the room but it allow to disconnect
Amazing location with the most beautiful staff ”
We were a family of four travelling with two young children and the accommodation and staff were amazing. We were surrounded by the most beautiful natural surroundings and so much natural wildlife. The drive to the hotel was spectacular. To top it off the staff were unbelievably kind and attentive. Our favourite hotel in Sri Lanka for sure.
Stunning villas in serene surroundings”
Beautiful private villas with wonderful outside shower rooms. Would love to have stayed longer. Great to have a pool but not quite to the standard of the rest of this hotel. Staff and service very good.
We stayed here for 1 night and our only regret was that it wasn’t longer! Staff were absolutely brilliant, dinner was great value and villa was spacious. The only thing to keep in mind is they only accept cash and the hot water doesn’t last long - the only small inconveniences. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for somewhere a bit different to your usual hotel!
Definitely off the beaten track but the most perfect hidden treasure. The staff are incredible, the rooms perfectly and the dinner tasty and plentiful. Perfect place to have a beer and watch the sunset over the countyside.
I really like the property, especially the way the grounds are kept like surrounding areas and local trees and plants are planted for a most natural feel of the place. looking at the size of the property, it would be wonderful to have walk-ways in it, so that it is possible to walk around this lovely property. The quality of food was very good and I highly appreciate the fact that freshly cooked food was being served. More attention needs to be paid to the food served, with more varieties offered for the vegetarian guests. It was very boring to eat the same food for breakfast, lunch and dinner! I found the staff very courteous and willing to help at all times.
Perfect stay in every way; wonderful staff, fantastic accommodation and delicious food”
Our 3 night stay at Kumbukgaha couldn't have been more perfect. The staff were all wonderful, incredibly friendly and very helpful. The room was huge and really lovely with a very comfortable bed. The outdoor bathroom was great. We went at the start of the rainy season and enjoyed a couple of warm showers in the pouring rain. The pool was great, and we especially enjoyed having a swim surrounded by a few monkeys in the trees. Breakfast was great and very filling, and the 4 course dinner was fantastic - a different option to choose from each night for the main course. The location was perfect for us. It was so quiet being off the beaten track and very relaxing after our week and half of travelling around Sri Lanka. The hotel organised a tuk tuk driver for us for our two trips out; one to Sigiriya rock (2500 rupees for round trip) and Polonoruwa (5000 rupees for round trip). All in all this stay was our highlifht in Sri Lanka and we couldn't recommend it enough!!!
Great escape in the wild”
This place is out of the way but the villa was well appointed with shower under the stars!! The USD10 dinner cannot be faulted and staff are friendly and helpful.
The staff was amazing
Truly A great place to spend one to two nights”
Kumbukgas Lodge is an oasis in the bush, truly a highlight of our holiday, beware it can be hard to find impossible without a driver to ask directions then you will need to ring the number, but well worth the effort the staff, food and ambiance were excellent it is in close proximatey to Sigiriya Rock.
Staff are amazing and very accomodating”
We made a mistake and booked our accommodation for March and not Feb - they could not have been more accommodating. They were closed for the night (all the main staff had gone home) however they were really generous and opened it up for us. The place itself is magical, in the evening the sound of insects and animals is deafening... in a great way. The outdoor bathroom is an experience, the room is split level and there is a TV placed upstairs. Even though they are two star, their attention to detail (in the design) and service makes it more of a 4 star. P.S the hotel is at the end of long bumpy road, but bear with it as it is totally worth it.
Amazing silence and harmony with wilderness. It’s good to know that it is in very remote area and around 10min tuk tuk drive to the village, but that gives it a charm at the same time. Lovely room and open air bathroom. Staff really nice and helpful.
great place to relax”
Superb setting for relaxation. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food was delicious and great value. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Would recommend the villas if you just want your own time and peace. Great locatyfor local attractions
Good Food, Relaxing in middle of nowhere”
This is a very quiet place far from the busy road. Finding the place might be tricky as there are no large boards or signs until you see the property in middle of a large field. The stay was wonderful mainly because of the very friendly staff. You could hear the sharp sound of Peacocks wandering around the hotel grounds. The location is built in traditional Sri Lankan way and has lot of antique ornaments. Food was delightful. Pool was situated on an odd place with no view at all. But still the hotel maintains a good connection with nature without spoiling.
Peacefull retreat to get away from it all”
Lovely place to unwind. Beautiful setting with only 7 rooms at the moment. Peacocks in the field opposite and an elephant path next to the pool! Staff were lovely. I would suggest tea making facilities in the room. I loved the isolation and the lack of tv. Great place to escape. They are currently building 4 more rooms but this does not influence the quality of your stay.
After an active day sight-seeing, it was always great to return to Kumbukgaha for some relaxation. The sounds of nature, a dip in the pool or a tea on our veranda were always a joy. The staff catered to our every need from an extra early breakfast, an emergency trip to the doctor to needing an extra bed. We would recommend and happily return to this boutique hotel.
A hidden gem!”
What a find this hidden gem was! Firstly, this really is in the middle of nowhere with nothing in walking distance and it is down a long dusty track! The rooms have been finished to a very high standard and the outdoor bathrooms were beautiful! Showering under the stars was pretty special! The best part was the 3 course dinner they served each night for $10 (yes you read correctly!!!). The food was incredible and essentially it was all you can eat as they just kept topping us up! If you are looking for a slice of tranquility in beautiful surroundings this is the place for you! Finally, the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful!!!
