Excellent”
After an active day sight-seeing, it was always great to return to Kumbukgaha for some relaxation. The sounds of nature, a dip in the pool or a tea on our veranda were always a joy. The staff catered to our every need from an extra early breakfast, an emergency trip to the doctor to needing an extra bed. We would recommend and happily return to this boutique hotel.

A hidden gem!”
What a find this hidden gem was! Firstly, this really is in the middle of nowhere with nothing in walking distance and it is down a long dusty track! The rooms have been finished to a very high standard and the outdoor bathrooms were beautiful! Showering under the stars was pretty special! The best part was the 3 course dinner they served each night for $10 (yes you read correctly!!!). The food was incredible and essentially it was all you can eat as they just kept topping us up! If you are looking for a slice of tranquility in beautiful surroundings this is the place for you! Finally, the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful!!!

Beautiful place, but someone messed up”
This "hotel" is just beautiful. It's not what you think of as a hotel, which is why I put it in quotes. There are a few individual bungalow type houses, and a couple of rooms that do share a wall. It is a beautiful property that is next to rice fields. The dining area is outdoors and stunning. The road to get to the property is a little rough though. My husband and I were supposed to have a two night stay at this property, however, something happened, there was miscommunication between Agoda and Kumbukgaha Villa, our reservation was lost (even though my credit card was charged), they were overbooked, and we did not get to stay the two nights. Kumbukgaha Villa, did what they could - they gave us an upgraded room for one night at no charge, and Agoda booked us a room at another hotel for the following night for no additional charge. I was sad to not be able to stay here the second night. Dinner was good but expensive and probably should've been free due to the situation.

Tranquil Oasis”
This property is a bit off the beaten path, but once you find it you are delivered to a tranquil oasis. There are wild peacocks, monkeys and even an elephant or two may pass through during the evening. From check-in to check-out everything was wonderful. They helped us celebrate our son's 2nd birthday as well! There is nothing else near the property, so we did have breakfast and dinner onsite each day. The food was excellent!!! They had a great wifi connection, it just did not quite make it to our villa. Thus, I would use the main sitting area to check email, etc... I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a peaceful, zen location. One note: the bathrooms for each villa are private, but outside and uncovered. It was a unique experience showering under the moonlight, but this may not be for everyone!

Wow wow wow the best place ever!! It’s perfect from staff, environment and food!! You have come here”
This was the most magical place we have been too. The environment is spectacular as you are surrounded in the jungle with Buffalo, monkeys, elephants, peacocks and stunning birds. The structure and design is perfect. The pool is the right size and reasturent is fab. The food is out of this world and you try so many amazing dishes. Breakfast is fit for a king. The only thing is more a variety on wine and alcohol but that is such a minor thing in the grand scheme of our perfect it is here. Then the staff are fabulous as they attentive but knowone bothers you and you can relax and chill. I want especially say that A.H. Lionel and D.P.Gunatilaka made our stay even more special with there attitude and service. They also organise a Brillant driver for you that you should take up who is W.M.Premasirin (+94774439501) and makes see the fab sites that are great and I would definitely come back here. I hope you enjoy as much as us as I would say it is perfect.

Nice location and pool but poor food and unhelpful staff. ”
The location is beautiful and remote with good size rooms and a nice pool. The food however was the worst of our 2 week trip. The sri lankan offering was bland and the western whilst we didn't try looked even worse ( does anyone want a curdled carbonara when in sri lanka). The staff were not particulalrly helpful with regards to organising trips or providing reccomendations.

Wilderness villa”
Great concept, nice people, the 2nd night we were the only couple so had place to ourselves, like having your own butler and servants, superb. Breakfast and dinner very nice. A little more expensive when compared with the hotels we stayed at, but overall would go again.

Overpriced, out of the way”
I can see the value of a place out in the woods, but this isn't that. Set in the middle of a paddy field about twenty mins from Habarana, it takes about ten mins to reach from the main road. Only possible if you have your own car, otherwise prepare to pay LKR 500 for every trip outside. The staff are courteous, but definitely not friendly. They just brought a desert to the table without asking what our choice from the 3 options were. Asking for a different choice, got a grumpy response from one of the staff. The shower has no water pressure in their 'eco-friendly' bathroom. Turning on the hot water, reduced the water to a trickle (not exaggerating). The a.c. made a clicking noise all night and leaked water into the room. I mentioned this to the manager and got no response and nothing was done about it. The dinner in restaurant (10 USD pp) was a huge disappointment. The fish was so overcooked that it had become beyond edible.

Honeymoon Stay”
Had a wonderful few days at Kumbukgaha Villa. Loved waking up to the sounds of animals each morning, seeing monkeys while swimming in the pool and spotting elephants nearby. The staff were wonderful and made every effort to make our stay a memorable one. As I was also pregnant they took extra care of all our requirements. We were sad to leave.

Lovely rooms and service in a peaceful setting”
Kumbukgaha is situated at the end of a long bumpy track but the journey is worth it for the peace and seclusion offered. Lovely rooms in a very natural setting (peacocks and mosquitos included!) - there is a lot to be said for showering outside! Delicious food (I needed sambol to spice things up a bit though) and friendly service. A little disappointed to find the pool dirty and the grounds could really do with a little love in terms of some plants and grass.

Welcoming and unique hotel”
The staff were outstanding, helpful and curteous. It was a special place, quite off the beaten track and very quiet and relaxing. Rooms were very spacious with a huge outdoor bathroom ( yes you shower etc under the starry sky). Mosquito net would be useful- there are special anti mosquito plugs but didn't seem to work as we got bitten. Food was tasty, could be more spicy, breakfast best so far in Sri Lanka. If you like beer, the only one they had was Carlsberg Special Brew 8.8%, not everyone's cup of... tea. I would recommend this hotel, it was comfortable and very welcoming place and different than anything else we've seen too.

Beautifully designed villas in rural setting + sighting of elephants!”
Rural setting within close proximity to Sigirya and Dambulla. Stylish rooms with beautiful public areas and small pool. A great base within the Cultural Triangle. Wild elephants passed by (not too close by!) during the evening meal to the delight of staff and guests.

Seriously amazing”
I can't rave enough about this place and my only regret is that we didn't stay loner!!! Lionel and his team are exceptional. We felt like royalty. The food was soooo tasty and well priced. The rooms were gorgeous and had the most relaxing time here. I would come back to Sri Lanka just to stay here again! :)
