Beautiful place, but someone messed up”
This "hotel" is just beautiful. It's not what you think of as a hotel, which is why I put it in quotes. There are a few individual bungalow type houses, and a couple of rooms that do share a wall. It is a beautiful property that is next to rice fields. The dining area is outdoors and stunning. The road to get to the property is a little rough though. My husband and I were supposed to have a two night stay at this property, however, something happened, there was miscommunication between Agoda and Kumbukgaha Villa, our reservation was lost (even though my credit card was charged), they were overbooked, and we did not get to stay the two nights. Kumbukgaha Villa, did what they could - they gave us an upgraded room for one night at no charge, and Agoda booked us a room at another hotel for the following night for no additional charge. I was sad to not be able to stay here the second night. Dinner was good but expensive and probably should've been free due to the situation.
Perfect stay in every way; wonderful staff, fantastic accommodation and delicious food”
Our 3 night stay at Kumbukgaha couldn't have been more perfect. The staff were all wonderful, incredibly friendly and very helpful. The room was huge and really lovely with a very comfortable bed. The outdoor bathroom was great. We went at the start of the rainy season and enjoyed a couple of warm showers in the pouring rain. The pool was great, and we especially enjoyed having a swim surrounded by a few monkeys in the trees. Breakfast was great and very filling, and the 4 course dinner was fantastic - a different option to choose from each night for the main course. The location was perfect for us. It was so quiet being off the beaten track and very relaxing after our week and half of travelling around Sri Lanka. The hotel organised a tuk tuk driver for us for our two trips out; one to Sigiriya rock (2500 rupees for round trip) and Polonoruwa (5000 rupees for round trip). All in all this stay was our highlifht in Sri Lanka and we couldn't recommend it enough!!!
Kumbukgaha Villa was a little out of the way, but absolutely worth that little extra drive. The room was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was huge and mostly under the stars. I was introduced to two new sorts of frogs. The furnishings and decoration in the communal areas was delightful. A lot of it looked antique. Very nice!!
The best hotel in our trip”
The place is deep in the end of the road.We were impressed. The staff are great .good service. We had dinner and breakfast there. The best meal in our trip. The building is new very clean and comfortable. The swimming pool is great .There were peacock around .We will defenitly recommended our friend to stay in Kumbukgaha villa.
Had a wonderful few days at Kumbukgaha Villa. Loved waking up to the sounds of animals each morning, seeing monkeys while swimming in the pool and spotting elephants nearby. The staff were wonderful and made every effort to make our stay a memorable one. As I was also pregnant they took extra care of all our requirements. We were sad to leave.
KML was an amazing peaceful experience. We took a chance booking this Loge over some of the larger more commercial hotels in the area – in the end we were extremely happy and wished we could have stayed longer! Lodge was originally built to be a luxury family cottage – however owners found they were not using it so they decided to offer it to travelers. There’s only 3 rooms, but they are very clean with modern design and facilities – the washroom is outside but still spotless… no bugs. Hotel property is essentially in the wild, 20 min drive from Sigiriya. You can use this as a great base to visit Sigiriya and surrounding areas. We ate both breakfast and dinner at the hotel – there’s a personal chef that cooks at request.
Safari Paradise with Outstanding Service”
My husband and I stayed here for two nights on our honeymoon. We had the whole place to ourselves and were spoiled by the attentive staff. They arranged to take us in their own tuk tuk to the ancient cities of Sigiriya (45 minutes from the hotel) and Polonnaruwa for a fair price. Food was just okay but the safari like surroundings and two floor bedroom more than made up for it. Wifi was the fastest in all of our hotels and the outside bathroom was a new experience that my husband and I both enjoyed. Overall we highly recommend Kumbukgas Lodge!
After an active day sight-seeing, it was always great to return to Kumbukgaha for some relaxation. The sounds of nature, a dip in the pool or a tea on our veranda were always a joy. The staff catered to our every need from an extra early breakfast, an emergency trip to the doctor to needing an extra bed. We would recommend and happily return to this boutique hotel.
Looking for an Adventure, Go for it”
We simply had a wonderful time at Kumbukgas Lodge. It had clearly exceeded our expectations. It more like a Semi Eco-Lodge, but boy, have not they maintained it properly. The rooms are excellent, open bathrooms but so very well maintained Its in the middle of a jungle but they have maintained the cleaned the surrounding few meters beyind the actual property. They have only 3-4 rooms and am glad, that they have kept it this way since it ensures that services are of top quality. Breakfast was included and we liked it. Driver Accommodation is available. Sigiriya rock is about half an hour away but i totally recommend staying here if you are looking a completely different experience and dont mind 1-2 lizards in the room. Just to make you feel better, the room is pretty big so its manageable.
Lovely peaceful stay with very attentive staff”
We had a relaxing and peaceful stay at Kumbukgas Mankada Lodge. It was a bit hard to find the guesthouse as you have to drive for 2.5 km on a dirt track after turning right about half way between Dambulla and Habarana. However, this slight moment of stress was made up for by the very friendly staff who welcomed us with a drink and dinner. The food was delicious and very traditional with many different dishes being freshly prepared. You certainly won't be hungry afterwards. It was also lovely having dinner with all the sounds of nature around you and fire flies lighting up the night. In the morning, you may also be lucky to see some peacocks while you have breakfast! Another great feature was the outside bathroom which was perfectly clean. Overall, a great stay and I would definitely come back again next time I visit Sri Lanka.
The lodge is a great quiet spot to enjoy one of the most crowded tourist areas in Sri Lanka. Everyone else stays near the road or at Sigiriya, but this spot is nicely located between Minneriya and Sigiriya and Dambulla. The staff was great about organizing transit and gave good recommendations for the area as well. Not much to do at the hotel itself, but great quiet location.
a real gem of a guesthouse”
lovely guesthouse a real gem, staff were great ,we were woken up by peacocks calling each morning which was nice sometimes there are elephants passing but unfortunately not during our stay although they passed through neighbouring village one night we heard villagers shouting ,guesthouse is a bit difficult to find it is off main rd from Dambulla on right hand side about 3 miles passed turn off into Sigiriya you need a tuk tuk or taxi but this wasn't a problem theres nothing much in Sigiriya appart from the rock .If you want to see Sigiriya rock without paying $30 and joining the crowds we climbed up Pidurangala rock and caves cost RS300 took alocal guide hardly any other tourists and its right next to Sigiriys same height so we had excellent view of other rock much better value
A lovely ... if remote retreat”
The location is pretty remote and very difficult to find your way to if you are using public transportation. The Tuk Tuks that wait at the Sigiriya road will charge a lot to take you there ... and even these drivers don't have a clear idea. The actual place is fantastic. Very remote. Lovely large rooms with mosquito nets and wifi. The bathroom is great as it is open to the stars. The staff are welcoming and try to suit your needs. Be prepared to stock up with any items you may need before coming as the lodge is removed from all conveniences.
Lovely rooms and service in a peaceful setting”
Kumbukgaha is situated at the end of a long bumpy track but the journey is worth it for the peace and seclusion offered. Lovely rooms in a very natural setting (peacocks and mosquitos included!) - there is a lot to be said for showering outside! Delicious food (I needed sambol to spice things up a bit though) and friendly service. A little disappointed to find the pool dirty and the grounds could really do with a little love in terms of some plants and grass.
A perfect get away in Sigiriya ”
Sigiriya is a 4 hour drive from the airport and because we wanted to climb the rocks first thing in the morning, we headed off to Kumbukgas straight from the airport and got there at midnight. Lionel and Sampath were both awake and greeted us warmly even at that hour. They even prepared a welcome drink for us which to me was unnecessary at that time. For breakfast they would ask us our preference and made sure we were set for the day. To be honest, the rooms are not extraordinary and the open shower was not ideal for me because it was way too cold but it was so different from any hotel you will appreciate it as it is. The location is in the middle of nowhere which was so good too because you can feel the calmness and appreciate nature as it is. You can hear the animals in the background and i have never seen a sky filled with so much stars but there. Because they only had 3 rooms, you can feel its exclusivity and not think that its over crowded. You are given full attention at all times and the best part is the service is given with a smile. No complains. No nos.
Peaceful, secluded family run guest house”
The Lodge is close to all the sights around Sigiriya and yet is miles from any other hotels/guest houses and, therefore, very peaceful and a real getaway from it all. I slept with the door to my open air bathroom open and didn't notice any mosquitos. The food was very good traditional Sri Lankan fare and way more than I could finish! They have driver accommodation.
This property is a bit off the beaten path, but once you find it you are delivered to a tranquil oasis. There are wild peacocks, monkeys and even an elephant or two may pass through during the evening. From check-in to check-out everything was wonderful. They helped us celebrate our son's 2nd birthday as well! There is nothing else near the property, so we did have breakfast and dinner onsite each day. The food was excellent!!! They had a great wifi connection, it just did not quite make it to our villa. Thus, I would use the main sitting area to check email, etc... I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a peaceful, zen location. One note: the bathrooms for each villa are private, but outside and uncovered. It was a unique experience showering under the moonlight, but this may not be for everyone!
One of a kind. Beautiful rooms, intimate & peacefu”
Magical atmosphere, completely in the nature with frequent peacoks and if u r lucky elephant. Simple and good breakfast. Super friendly and sweet staff. Perfect for-couples only 3 rooms and stylish location everybody who got there is at first puzzled by the road to get there but its only 5 min from the main road. Equally distant from sigiriya, dambulla and polonnaruwa. Very intimate and highly recomended. Perfect for a couple of days. We'll get back there given the opportunity. Cons no a/c but climate is fresh.
Truly A great place to spend one to two nights”
Kumbukgas Lodge is an oasis in the bush, truly a highlight of our holiday, beware it can be hard to find impossible without a driver to ask directions then you will need to ring the number, but well worth the effort the staff, food and ambiance were excellent it is in close proximatey to Sigiriya Rock.
EXCELLENT - UNFORGETTABLE”
We stayed two nights to visit Polonnaruwa, Sigirya and Andarapuw... This hotel was an incredible surprise: excellent price / quality report, it is located in the middle of a field with nothing around which makes you feel alone in the nature (superbe exeperience), room is fantastic (clean, spacious) with outdoor bathroom, staff very friendly Food was ok with not a lot of choice byut very good taste Internet works during meals (i.e. breakfast and dinner) and then it is shut down Hotel is quite difficult to find but very close to Camelia Spa Resort hotel... We would defenitely recommend this hotel
