Good Vibe”
The Hump Youth Hostel: was on the 3rd floor. A pool table greets. A bar extends out the roof deck. The people speak very little English. Private rooms are at the farthest end of the huge compound. The rooms were dark, which makes reading impossible. Bathrooms were clean, hot water adequate. Our room was facing the street and could be noisy at times but was not a bother at all. We stayed for one night only. We had late night snacks and food was pretty good, likewise with breakfast. They served good coffee , fresh orange juice. A fun place with ok food.

comfortable but loud”
I am attending Yunnan University for the summer, and needed a place for two nights before the program started. The Hump Youth Hostel was an okay to spend the days, but it was really loud late into the night. If you like bars and clubs, this is the place for you. But, if you just want to relax and see Kunming, I might suggest a different place. There's lots of good street food around and a little market.

Probably one of the best youth hostels in Kunming, with very large communal area. But if you are just looking for simple accommodation, there are better options available. PS there is no WIFI in room.

Nice but noisy”
The Hump Youth Hostel is a good value for the money, but beware - it is very noisy at night. The staff was good, but not great. The food was dismal. Still, it wasn't a bad place to stay for one night, and it's close to many restaurants and bars.

Excellent”
The staff was very helpful and willing to help me resolve the issue where the booking system misplaced the booking (6-people mixed dormitory) while the hostel only has 6-female dormitory room. She was willing to upgrade my booking to double room with minimal increment of payment. The staff also helped me in my preparation to travel within the city. The location was quite strategic as you can easily get a bus just outside the main road.

Great hostel in good location”
A very pleasant stay, The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hostel itself has an old world Chinese character and felt like you were in a Chinese period drama but still had modern amenities. Nice friendly bar area with western drinks and nice roof top dining/drinking area. Good breakfast (western & Chinese) available with discount for hostel guests. Electric blankets on bed but no heating although we were just warm enough. Several good local restaurants in the immediate area. Don't be put off by entrance through small back alley

Overrated”
We stayed for 2 nights and were pretty much in the hostel the entire time because my girlfriend badly sprained her ankle and was on crutches. Positives - The location of the hostel is very good. It is centrally located in Kunming with many restaurants, shopping options, and buses nearby. The food in the restaurant was quite good and the prices (for food and for rooms) were very reasonable, even for backpackers on tight budgets. Negatives - Our room was very dark. We read this in reviews before we came but did not take it seriously. There are no windows to the outside and the overhead lights are not bright. We had to use headlamps. The staff and other guests were not very friendly. Despite the fact that I had to carry my girlfriend up the stairs and she was in lots of pain and was icing her foot, not one employee asked what happened or if they could help. We had to figure out how to get to the hospital to get X-rays on our own. Maybe they were just trying to stay out of our business or maybe they didn't speak enough English but we thought this was a bit strange. Note - They are very strict about outside food and drinks. At night, the hostel becomes a bar and restaurant (with many patrons who are not staying in the hostel) and we think this must be a major source of revenue for them.

Good Hostel with International Feeling”
Overall is good, reception can speak english well, we stayed there 3 nights during Kunming Trip new year 2014, We reach there with clear instruction on their website. It's next to Jinbi Square but the hostel on 3rd floor, in case you have many luggages it could make you exhaust. We enjoy surrounding of Jinbi Square until late night many restaurants to tried Yunan style food. Bed is big enough with heater. Hot water come steady. {Many thanks to Pual who support me a lot when we check out. He is good man.}

No air-conditioning???!!”
everything was fine except for the air-conditioning. In the reservation, it stated there clearly of the facility where air-conditioner is part of the facilities in the room but when I checked in the room, the customer service told me that all the rooms in the Hostel are without air-conditioner!! It was about to have argument with the hotel, but fortunately the customer service willingly provided a portable table fan for my usage in the room. thank God! at the same moment, there's another customer requesting for canceling the room he booked as he also realized there's no air-conditioning as stated in his reservation. I left a note to the customer service when checking out the hotel the next day, to make sure they review and revise the content of facilities written in the websites that promote their hotel reservation so that we don't feel cheated/annoyed/dissatisfied when we realize later that the facilities provided are not as what written in the reservation!!

The hostel in the central of Kunming but not easy to find. The hostel's address don't have number, street only. And there wasn't any sandals in the room. The hostel staff charged me 15 yuan per 1 pair of sandals. And the price of breakfast is too high.

Strategic, comfortable stay”
This is the second time staying in the Hump. Liked the location and the environment. Liked the common place where there are lots of washbasins, bathrooms and toilets which are all well maintained. Did not like the bathroom in the room though as it was without door.

Affordable”
Good Things:- (1) Location accessible, (2)Bed with heater, kunming is cold with heater you will fell comfortable. Bad things:- (1)i booked five nights, during my and my family stayed, the housekeeper NEVER change bed sheet and tower their just clear the rubbish bin. (2) Old and small tv, Tv channel lack of selection and signal not clear (3) airport transfer and tour transfer is damn expensive if you booked with hostel(4) the hot and cold water for shower is adjustable but it out of order, is either too hot or cold water there is no in between adjustable to comfortable level. (5)toilet inside the room but is not totally P&C, the toilet wall is not full height up to ceiling, u can hear ppl. (6) Internet speed only up to 2MB, is wifi but coverage are limited and when peak hour many people using the speed will slow down obviously. Conclusion: If you are budget concern is worth to stay. Their is a travel agency very nearby the hostel same row with "dico restaurant", you can book local tour to shiling or jiu xiang with very cheap price of cos the tour will bring you to shopping. Don't try to eat local hawker store food on street, not hygienic, i tried on my 1st day and my 2nd night was stayed in hospital.

Good location helpfull staff ”
Our room was very cold as the windows could not close , it could have used a good clean as it was a bit dusty and grotty in places, How ever the staff are hard working and friendly ,the hotel has a pretty good atmosphere and the meals are reasonably priced and are very tasty. Coffee and beer on arrival is very welcoming .

It’s good，but can be better”
I came with my friend n we booked a twin bed room,on the 2rd floor.Bosses here are very nice and warm-hearted,all stuff needed are prepared in the room.but there still something can be improved.they don’t have an air conditioner—I’m not meant to the temperature—the city had rained for nearly a week,it’s moist everywhere,especially there’s no door between the bedroom & the bathroom.but after you checked out,you can leave your luggage here and they charge free，I hope they can be better n I hope it will be sunny when I come next time

Very helpful staff but cold room!”
A great place, but maybe not during winter. The patio bar/restaurant, I'm imagining, would be awesome when it is warm, but in December, the entire hostel was cold, especially the rooms. The staff though went over and above, and helped us many times to book tickets for buses, trains, etc.

Decent place”
By hostel standards, it was decent enough. There was no AC in our room. The bathroom was a little lacking as it didn't have a real door, just a shower curtain. Check in/out was very fast. Got a free beer and tea ticket upon check in which was nice.
