Best Location to Stay in Kyoto!”
I loved this hotel -- the room is pretty small, but I don't even think that is worth complaining about since all hotels in Japan have small rooms. I stayed in three hotels while in Japan, and this one had the most spacious and comfortable bed out of them all. I had a king-sized bed in my room. The hotel itself is really cool -- I loved the decor and the very modern, relaxed vibe. The public onsen in the basement was really nice, especially during the winter and after a long day of walking. We paid for the breakfast which is definitely worth it. The food was great -- a mixture of traditional Japanese foods with some more typical "hotel" breakfast-type food. It was just really nice to wake up and be able to not worry about where to find breakfast in the morning. Location was also super ideal for a tourist. I LOVE the neighborhood ! The staff were super nice and polite -- always accomodating and helpful. If I stay in Kyoto again, I would definitely book the Kyoto Granbell Hotel!
Thank you very much for all of your kind words regarding to your stay with us. It is our pleasure to hear that you enjoyed your stay and had a relaxing time. Our staff members are trying to provide personalized customer service every single day. Our restaurant staff is really glad to hear that you liked Kyoto traditional style called 'Obanzai'. We change the menu every season and events, so we hope that you can try new meal for your next trip. We sincerely hope to have another opportunity to welcome you again in the future. Respectfully yours, Guest Relations.
Hip modern hotel with Japanese aesthetic ”
I have to commend hotel reception Ms Miyu Yakabe for helping us with our lost baggage and redirecting it to our last stop in Osaka on checking in to Kyoto Granbell. Thank you, Miyu! The hotel arranged a Maiko show in the hotel lobby. It was a special event. We absolutely loved it! The dance and interaction during the show by Maiko Fukunae san was most enlightening and interesting. Do get tickets to this show. Fantastic location to access Gion and train stations to other places. The buses in Kyoto are so convenient and quite easy to use. Bus stops are very near hotel. You can take Raku buses 100, 101 and 102 for sight seeing. We took a normal bus as we did not have much time. We stayed in twin rooms, even though small, were very comfortable with Handy mobile phones you can use outside hotel. Good coffee in the lobby for the guest and it’s complimentary. The public bath on B1 is great. Try it. The lobby setup is very cool and inviting. Long couches and a long table to sit. Great hotel !
Best place I have ever stayed”
Where to begin with the Kyoto Granbell, I don't even know! This place was beyond expectations, and the staff was absolutely amazing. They were some of the most helpful and kindest people I have ever met, and definitely went above and beyond expectation. The place itself is beautiful and so clean you could eat off the floor. The breakfast buffet was super delicious (especially the curry!) and the onsen was so relaxing. To give you some more details about my personal experience, when I first arrived I had just gotten stuck in a typhoon, sprained my ankle, and broke my glasses. Needless to say I wasn't feeling all that great, so when I took a taxi to the hotel from Kyoto station, of course I forgot it in the taxi. When I realized, I went to the front desk in a panic, and the lady at the front (who spoke amazing English) was more than willing to help me. I wish I had gotten her name - but she called all the taxi companies and while she did that another lady (Hiroko) took me to the police station to file a report. Not only did she walk me there, but she translated my situation and information to the police, and the police were super helpful too! They gave me a case number, took down my information, and all of the details about my phone. When we got back, the first lady, Hiroko, and another gentleman (Yota) gave me information on a couple nearby internet cafes to access the internet so I could contact Verizon and a couple friends since I assumed I would never get my phone back. They even let me use the phone at the front desk to make an international call to my mom, just so she knew what was going on in case I couldn't contact her or anyone else until I got back. After leaving and searching for the internet cafes and walking around downtown Kyoto for a while, I got back and low and behold Yota was super happy in reporting that the taxi driver came back later that evening with my phone safe and sound. Only in Japan would this ever happen - and I can't begin to explai
Lovely Hotel Nestled in the Heart of Kyoto”
Kyoto Granbell is a lovely hotel located on a small side street in the heart of the Gion district. It is steps away from both intimate restaurants, as well as the hustle and bustle of the main Shijo Avenue. The hotel hosted a Maiko Show during our stay and it was a wonderful experience. The common areas have a sophisticated decor, the rooms are well appointed and clean, and the staff is friendly and very helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here on my next trip to Kyoto!
The best hotel experience on my trip”
My boyfriend and I stayed at 4 different hotels in Japan this trip, and Kyoto Granbell was hands down the best hotel we've stayed at. It was brand new and located right in the middle of a very convenient area which was bustling with night life. Train stations were only 5 minutes away and we were surrounded by delicious restaurants. The hotel staff were extremely polite and helpful. The rooms were very clean and spacious. Their public bath is very comfortable and new and their breakfast buffet had an array of local ingredients and also western breakfast, and everything tasted amazing. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto. Great value for the services they offer.
Thank you very much for staying with us. We are very happy to hear that you had a good time in our hotel. Your review encourage us to improve higher quality of our service and hospitality. Our hotel is located in the center of Gion. Also, our breakfast has traditional meal in Kyoto, so you can enjoy the different Kyoto style in your next trip. We look forward to seeing you in the future. Again, thank you very much for taking your time for this review. Sincerely yours, Receptionist : Chiaki Ishiwata
Tasteful but tiny!”
The Kyoto Granbell Hotel is brand spanking new having opened in July 2017. Albeit the recent opening, the service seems to have smoothened and the staff were brilliant. We were conscious Japanese hotel rooms would be 'smaller' in size than what we would normally get, say, in the US. With that in mind, we had booked one of their bigger room offerings, the Premier Double, which turned out to be smaller than we imagined. To make up for this small room size was the large bed (the comfiest we've slept in!) and the zen minimalistic design of the hotel. Every aspect of the hotel was well designed with great taste. The public bath offered in the ground floor of the hotel was a great facility to relax at the end of a busy day touring Kyoto's wonders. The area where the hotel is located, Gion, is steps away from the wonderful historic Kyoto districts where, if you walk down the narrow streets, may potentially run into geishas and whatnot.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kyoto Granbell hotel. Location is as perfect as it gets. Dining, shopping, site-seeing, transportation are all just a very short walk away. A refreshing change from the ultra-modern metropolis that is Tokyo. The hotel itself is modern, stylish with friendly, helpful staff, comfortable rooms and has a lovely spa. Highly recommended and we would definitely stay there again.
Convent, contemporary hotel with bath”
Loved my stay at this hotel for a few days in Kyoto. Granbell was modern and clean, with a moody flair. It’s a short walking distance to many sights in Gion. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn there is an small onsen on the lower level and recommend taking advantage for anyone staying here!!
Beautiful place ”
This place was truly beautiful! The onsen in the bottom floor of the hotel - even in the heat of summer - was AMAZING. We used the onsen every night and were so sad to leave this place. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel also has nice coin-operated laundry facility downstairs although this isn't listed in their facilities on their website. The breakfast was alright - fine if you needed an early breakfast but not worth the price (around 1,800 yen) in my opinion when there are some other options nearby. The only thing to mention is the room we had was on a basement floor, which some might think is strange but it still worked well. There was plenty of natural light as there was an open to air garden outside the big window which starts at the basement floor and reaches up. This hotel is located in the Gion district, from the hotel you can meander through beautifully lit narrow streets towards the 'Geisha district' at Hanami-koji. In the other direction, you have Kamo Gawa two minutes walk away - an incredible part of Kyoto full of fun and great restaurants. This was easily the best hotel we stayed at in Japan (out of 6 hotels).
First time in Japan and we didnt know what to expect since we are from Canada and everyone had warned us of the small rooms in Japan. The rooms are very small compared to North American hotels we are use to however they are one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed at. We stayed at the Granbell in both Kyoto and Tokyo for our trip to Japan and we have zero complains. The rooms were super super clean, we had water bottles restocked every day and the staff was amazing. Even with the room sizes being small we had no problem having 2 large luggages in there, we made it work! Would recommend both locations to our friends.
New & Perfect Location”
Have been a Granbell fan for many years for their mix of good locations, cool design and value for money. This one does not disappoint. Prime Gion location for Kyoto night walks, and a great Onsen. Small efficient and new rooms. Highly Recommended.
perfect modern base to explore Gion from”
This hotel is very nice and an excellent choice for foreigners wanting a convenient location and a nice modern room with all necessities. The room my wife and I stayed in was great for what we needed as we just wanted to explore Kyoto and did not spend much time in our room. The staff is excellent and let us leave our luggage with them well before check in time and after check out time so we were able to enjoy everything in and around the Gion area. If you are looking for a hotel with a convenient location and just need a place to store luggage and sleep while you venture into Gion and Kyoto this is an excellent choice.
Beautiful and luxurious hotel in the heart of Kyoto”
Wonderful 5 days at newly opened Granbell Kyoto. Rooms were relatively big for a typical Japanese hotel. Apple TV was a nice touch. Loved the indoor onsen - great way to relax after a long day in Kyoto. Service was excellent - very nice gesture when they learnt it was our wedding anniversary. Will be back! (Just a tiny feedback: pillows are a little too soft. :))
Thank you very much for staying with us and taking your time to write a review. It is our pleasure to be a choice of hotels for your anniversary trip. We have been a great effort to provide a comfortable room and reluxing time. We hope to celebrate your next anniversary again! Best regards, Receptionist : Sakura
Well located and beautiful hotel”
The hotel is located in a perfect spot within Gion to walk to most destinations and close to transport options. The room was nice and plenty of space in the Japanese double for two people with decent sized luggage. We had great support from the hotel staff before our stay with organising luggage etc. but found staff to be a bit cold on check in and occasionally some sub-par housekeeping, nothing major just wasn’t to a super high standard. Otherwise everything was perfect, the onsen was beautiful and a highlight of our stay. Would recommend if looking to walk around Kyoto and stay in Gion!
A great hotel highly recommended! We came here as couple and absolutely enjoyed our stay in Granbell Kyoto. The decoration and design are very modern. There is a basement public onsen in the hotel and the location is great. 5 mins to the train and close to major souvenir street. We will come back again if staying in Kyoto!
Great location, Superb room (if you go for the Japanese-style rooms), beautifully designed.”
Lovely hotel in an amazing location. Easy to walk to most of the central tourist spots and shopping streets while being slightly tucked away for a peaceful evening. Due to the availability of rooms, we stayed in two different rooms while we were there. If you can, go for the Japanese style room, it's worth the extra premium. The standard rooms are somewhat small and cosy, though not as small as the business hotels in Tokyo. We did not book with breakfast as there's a pretty good selection of food/morning coffee around the hotel. The hot bath was a real treat for the cold winter nights. Granbell is a hotel we will happily go back to. (Something we rarely do) Please keep up the loveliness Granbell!
Thank you very much for staying with us. We are very happy to hear that you had a good stay at our hotel. As you mentioned, the room size is limited, but we are always trying to make our room which our customer can relux during their stay. We sincerely hope to host you again in the future with better service and hospitality. Best regards, Guest relations.
Great location and staffs”
Location is great, within walking distance of many beautiful sightseeing spots around Gion (Hanamikoji alley, Yasaka shrine, Kodaiji, Ninen-zaka), and few minutes away across the bridge to the lively Karamawachi. Breakfast is just okay, I prefer walking 2 minutes to Family Mart for breakfast for the rest of my stay. Room is great in comparison to other Japanese standard hotel and the staffs cleaned the room each day. Really enjoyed onsen on the basement. The best of all are the staffs at the lobby. They are very friendly helpful. They helped me to get taxi couple of times. And when I need to get my luggages shipped to Tokyo, they stayed on hold on the phone patiently with my Tokyo hotel to make sure they can accept my luggages. They even measured and filled out the shipping form for me. Really enjoyed my stay there and will stay here again next time I visit Kyoto.
Thank you very much for staying with us. We are really happy to know that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel. As you mentioned, our hotel have access to the most of sightseeing spot in Kyoto. There is still a lot of places we would like to show you for your next stay. We sincerely hope to have another opportunity to serve you again in the future. Best regards, Guest Relations
Friendly, modern, great location ”
I had stayed in the Granbell in Shinjuku, Tokyo and been pleased and this place was even better. Loved the modern design. Friendly reception staff, very clean. Room was great with huge bed (had the deluxe room). Location in Gion very good for sightseeing and bars and restaurants. Overall could not fault this hotel.
Thank you for staying with Granbell Hotel group. Our concept is mixing of Kyoto traditional and modern style, so we are happy to hear that you like our hotel design. You migh be interested in our Japanese style room with Tatami floor for your next stay. There is still a lot of places we would like to show you in Kyoto, so we look forward to seeing you again in the future! Respectfully yours, Receptionst : Sakura
Harmonious between traditional and modern heritage”
Just in time to check in, a short stroll nearby to experience the local everyday's life in this quiet part of Cultural Capital. A designer machiya in Gion. Harmonious between traditional and modern heritage. Filled with Japanese cultural atmosphere bridging a blend of tradition yet modern styling to form a new vibe in Higashiyama area. Bar金色Konjiki is another highlight of the hotel. Just nice to sit down and have some chats with Mr. Yusuke at the countertop bar after after a long day of visiting shrines and temples. The basement onsen is a great way start to start the day and certainly even more relaxing on the evening before calling it a day. As the first time, first hotel and first destination in Japan. Kyoto Grandbell did give us a great hospitality, heart-warming welcome and lovely experience. Our little boy loves this place so much and wanted to return again next year.
Great location and the most helpful concierge ”
The hotel location is right in the center of Gion, next to 花見小路. It has everything you need as traveler., coin laundry, free freshly ground coffee 24/7 in the lounge, a bar, a public bath if you are into Japanese style bath, (although it's not real spring water), and AppleTV if you want to stay in touch with US news. But the best feature is their concierge app , you can text them to ask for any help at anytime . I used it to book dinner reservations while I was out sightseeing and realized I didn't have a dinner plan that night. I also text them one night when the address of a restaurant took me to a wrong place in google map, they called the restaurant that I will be late and provided correct address while I was lost. I also asked them to help locating specific item I wanted to purchase. I think my experience in Kyoto was dramatically improved because of it.
