Review of Kyoto Guesthouse Hannari”
Kyoto Guesthouse Hannari is a perfect place to stay if you're backpacking alone or in a small group. The price was cheap, and the accommodations were great. There are a few beds along one wall in the hallway, kind of like 2 bunkbeds, and then there are 4 rooms with 2 bunk beds each. I stayed in the halls. I could hear people talking in the separate room right next to my bunk, but it wasn't particularly loud or annoying. They have "lights off" at 11pm, which basically means a nightlight is on in the hallway, and if you go out late, they give you a key to come in later. Breakfast is 2 pieces toast and jam which is simple, but for someone who didn't expect it, it was quite satisfying. They have a fridge stocked with drinks and you can go have some at any time as well. My biggest complaint is about the location. Since I had a JR pass, I tried to only limit myself to using JR lines. The closest station was Nijo station, and the hostel was about a 20-30 minute walk from the station. Normally, I wouldn't find this bad, but because my feet happened to be hurting later in my trip to kyoto, I felt a bit worn out by the walk. If you don't mind walking or have proper shoes to handle walking around a lot, then this is not of any concern to you. The staff was able to speak english, and was easy to understand. I had pleasant interactions with everyone, and they cleaned the place every day. I highly recommend staying here if you're traveling on a budget, and if I get the chance to go to Kyoto again, I'm definitely going to stay here if I need to save money.

A hidden gem”
I booked Hannari by chance not sure what to expect but ended up staying an extra night just because of what it happens to offer. Keep in mind: this is a very small and cozy guesthouse and therefore interactions with staff and other guests contribute to a big part of the experience. Guesthouse staff haruka and tom were supr friendly and really made me feel at home. They hang out in the common area and are both fun to talk to and helpful with anything you need. Many Japanese travels stay at Hannari which really provides foreign visitors a great opportunity to interact with "the locals." I learned a lot from doing just that. Let's not make this sound like an inside job: there are negatives. Location is not exactly central and facility overall is very small albeit very clean throughout. Overall, not where you want to go if you just want to temple hop but if you want a comfortable stay, a local family atmosphere and make some friends, Hannari is the way to go.

Clean guesthouse with friendly staff”
stayed here for one night on may 20 in a double-decked room. hotel was very small (small steep steps going up the 2nd floor), two showers, one toilet on each floor. very clean, no funny smells, but doors are thin and any movement up / down the stairs can easily disturb you. far from kyoto station but near nijo castle. breakfast served was some slices of white bread. margarine/jam and drinks (nescafe powdered coffee, calpis, juices, bottled water) were shared and free in the fridge. free toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body soap, moisturizer, cotton) at the shower / sink area.

Great hostel for price”
I had a great stay here, bed was comfortable and facilities were clean and suitable. Door to my bedroom had a lock which many of the budget hostels that I've stayed in Kyoto didn't have. Considering the lower price, I'd say it's good value for money. Owner is very nice when he is around. Hostel is near buses but not so near train station if that's important to you

Strategic location”
Staying in this hostel make my trip to access various places for sight seeing easy and convenient. Due to its small house size, it actually gave me a feeling how is the house in Kyoto looks like. Although it is small, the facilities are sufficient to serve my needs. Staffs are friendly and I wish them all the best in proceeding their own journey!

Nice!”
I enjoyed my stay. I am a solo girl traveller and only stayed one night. It was pretty casual, I just did my own thing. The people at the guesthouse could speak english. The lockers are quite small, it wasn't a problem for me as I only had a backpack but I could see how people with suitcases would struggle. Overall, would be happy to stay there again

Tiny rooms and uncomfortable beds”
The guesthouse`s owner (receptionist) doesn`t speak english very well -even though he think he`s fluent. It was hard to get satisfying answers according to questions I asked -he often misunderstood! Furthermore, the dormitory was without daylight, that`s a point which I almost cannot deal with it! It would be helpful having this information on the webpage! The asian guests (which I couldn`t figure out where they`re from) because they didn`t speak to me. Either they where too shy or their english as too poor... The rental bikes are really cheap but seriously uncomfortable and in a bad condition. All in all: As a single traveller I looking to meet other travellers in guesthouses for having a chat or might spending some time together -but the clients at Hannari GH aren`t like that. But still a good value for your money!

very cozy guesthouse”
It was the best hotel of my trip to Kansai area for a week. Overall, it was really clean and cozy. The blanket felt just washed and smelled good so it made me sleep deeply. Free breakfast(toast with jam or butter, many kinds of drink) was also good. The room was small but it didn't matter at all. It may be hard to find it at first. You can take any bus from Maruta-machi subway station exit 2(cross the street). It has a good location to go to other tourist spots by bus!

Location a bit far from station”
The staff's very helpful n friendly, near bus stop (good for kyoto pass holder) but only a few restaurant nearby (300m). Nice place to rest but a bit small room n a bit expensive. Its better to find another place for the same price.
