Sweet and warm place to stay”
hotel okura is very near to kamokawa, it takes about 5 minutes to the river. kawaramachi and shijo and sanjo are in its neighborhood, with department stores and good for shopping. the hotel is connected to the subway station kyoto shiyakusho mae and there are restaurants, cafes, and convenient stores outside the subway entrance. the single room is small as other hotels in kyoto but the room is clean and heart-warming. breakfast is good. i would stay here again next time i come to visit kyoto.
Excellent hotel and services !!”
Staying at the Kyoto Hotel Okura from 3/17-21, 2019. This hotel really presented itself a A+ quality starting from the doorman, reception, concierge, bell captain, room cleaning, etc. I can only say the performances of the hotel staff all exceeded my expectations...the kind of Japanese elegant services which you don't easily feel nowadays. The hotel rooms is quite spacious and also provide wonderful views of the city or river. Very easy access to lots of nearby commercial districts. Therefore, I highly recommend Kyoto Hotel Okura to anyone interested in enjoying Japanese high-class hospitality !!!
My favorite hotel in Japan”
During my trip to Japan I stayed at six different hotels. The Kyoto Hotel Okura was my favorite. Cons: The indoor pool, although very nice, cost 2,100 Yen (approximately $25 US). This could be seen as either a PRO or a CON. It's a CON because for the price I paid for the room, this amenity should be included. It's a PRO because the extra cost reduced the amount of people using it. There was only one other person in the pool when I went. Pros: The one thing that stood out was the service. Most of the hotel staff spoke English (some more than others), and all of them were very courteous. Every morning an English newspaper was delivered to my door (unexpected but appreciated). The room was quite spacious; it was the biggest one out of the six hotels I stayed at. The view from the room was very nice as I was on the 15th floor and got to see the city with no obstructions. The room was clean and seemed very modern. It had a nice flat screen tv; most of the channels were in Japanese, I think there was only one English channel. It had wired internet which was free and fast. An ethernet cable was provided in the desk drawer, which was good because I didn't think to bring one. The location of the hotel was excellent, right next to a bus stop and within very close walking distance to three shopping arcades which probably had over 100 different shops. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel. It's a little on the pricier side but well worth it in my opinion.
Best hotel in Kyoto”
I stayed in Kyoto Hotel Okura 3 nights. Location was excellent. Close to everything. Walking distance to best spots in Kyoto. Rooms sizes compare to other hotels in Japan or specially in Europe are really big. Rooms have everything you can possibly need during your stay. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed in many hotels around the world four and five stars and never seen service like in this hotel. I would rate this hotel full five stars. For the price that i booked this hotel through agoda it was just unbelievable. I will recommend this hotel to everyone.
Ausgezeichnetes Hotel in Kyoto!”
Kyoto Hotel Okura lives up to the reputation of an iconic Japanese top hotel. It's very conveniently located in the center of Kyoto. A few subway lines are nearby. One can reach the major sightseeing spots easily, major shopping centers are also nearby. Department stores like Takashimaya or Daimaru are within walking distance. The hotel room is spacious, quiet, super clean. The staff is most friendly and helpful. We stayed here for 3 nights and are extremely satisfied. Definitely we'd like to recommend this hotel to friends. And we'll stay here again for the next trip to Kyoto.
Lovely Hotel ”
My room at the Okura far exceeded expectations. This is a fine hotel with a fine staff. The only thing I can think of that could have made the stay a little nicer would have been complimentary tea or coffee in the room, but really, that is at the extreme of nit-picky-ness. Otherwise the room was beautiful, quiet and comfortable, the bathroom was sparkling clean, complimentary toiletries included a beautiful comb and surprisingly nice brush... My "single" room had a large bed, either a double or a queen, I'm not sure which. It really couldn't have been nicer. I look forward to staying there again the next time I'm in Kyoto. NOTE: the review form required that I rate the food at the hotel but I didn't eat there. I'm guessing the food is as good as everything else at the hotel so I gave it five stars but I can't vouch for the food.
Best Hotel In Kyoto”
We had our best time traveling in Japan at Kyoto. The Kyoto Hotel Okura was an amazing stay. It was central to everything around from the restaurants to scenic views and easy access to the train stations and buses. Our room was given a free upgraded to the executive floor by the nice front desk staff. The view was breath taking from the high floor and bell staff that brought us our luggage was super helpful answering our questions in English and advising us what is great to do around Kyoto. I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Kyoto. Our only disappointment was that we were not there long enough.
Great location and excellent service”
We stayed for 9 nights with another couple. When we arrived, we already knew that it worthed every penny. In fact, the price is lower than average and it is a 5-star hotel. Clean room and not small like the other japanese hotels. Excellent service, courteous like you would expect from all Japanese. We basically needed help from the concierge desk daily since we don't speak their language. The girls are extremely helpful. Every day, when we returned back to the hotel, we felt homecoming. I will not stay anywhere else but Okura if I ever visit Kyoto again
Kyoto Okura Visit”
I enjoyed my stay at Kyoto Okura Hotel. The attention to room readiness was subperb. The staff was ready and willing to help out with luggage, coats and bags. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Kyoto. Very spacious room, and great bathroom. All amenities listed in ad for room was true. They offerred fully stocked bar and frig. The prices for the items were not to expensive.
Great Location and Comfortable Rooms!”
Hotel Okura is easy to get to, with a subway stop right at the hotel and is centrally located. We were able to walk to many of the attractions in Kyoto. The hotel staff is very attentive and friendly and the concierge was helpful with maps and brochures. The room was lovely...spacious and the beds were very comfortable. We had 3 people in our room, so we had a pull-out bed, but even that was comfortable! The bathroom was gorgeous, with a separate bath and glass enclosed shower. We especially enjoyed the hotel bakery which is a little out of the way, but worth it!
Review of the Kyoto Okura”
I enjoyed my stay at the Kyoto Hotel Okura - which gave me a spacious room equipted with everything I needed and a very nice bathroom with shower. The lobby of the hotel was very nice and the hotel workers were very helpful to me. The breakfast buffet was lovely with just about anything you would desire for breadfast.
Excellent Property, Ideal Location, Close to Gion”
Such a nice and well managed property. The Hotel Okura proved to be an excellent choice for sightseeing and within easy walking distance to so many high quality restaurants and bars. We particularly liked the room we booked as it proved to be one of the largest during our stay in Japan. It was tastefully furnished and everything was in excellent condition. We also appreciated being acknowledged and offered assistance by any one of several staff members when entering or departing the hotel - they are just so gracious and eager to please here. We are certain to return to the Okura and I have no reservations giving fellow travelers my highest recommendation for this fine hotel.
Great location with upscale accommodations.”
this was our third or fourth stay at kyoto hotel-okura. we know it is certainly not the cheapest hotel in the area, but you certainly "get what you pay for." this is a first class hotel that has a very professional stass and always courteous. most speak english and can help non-japanese visitors.
I spent hours researching the internet trying to decide where to stay. I finally decided on the Kyoto Okura which was the best decision I made. The hotel is beautifully appointed and the service was fantastic. We were a 10 minute walk from Gion district. My 2 teenage kids loved the internet and the room service. Food was yummy.I would definitely stay here again.
Excellent hotel... excellent service!!!”
This is the second time I'd stay in the Hotel Okura Kyoto... the service is excellent and the hotel is 100% in its layout and location. It is situated a block away from Pontocho and its nice river side restaurants. And the subway is at the door steps.
Regardless of some nitpicking reviews, this property has all the kind of things going for it that the highest recommendation is in order. The location is central to all of Kyoto. One simply has to walk steps to and from the subway for easy transportation. If that's not your preference taxis wait constantly in front. Staff is attentive and speak English. Get the superior rooms with river view and skip the breakfast unless you don't like Japanese food. There are plenty of shops and restaurants at the hotel but in the subway mall adjacent there are many good places to eat, shop and buy market items. The hotel is exceptionally clean, has very helpful concierge and overall a perfect choice.
Great location, lovely hotel, centre of everything, staff went above and beyond. Reasonable price to pay for a decent size room by Kyoto standards. Included breakfast was fantastic, hey it got the wife and I charged up for the day. Don’t know if we’ll get back to Kyoto but we won’t be staying anywhere else. And the Japanese are lovely respectable people which is more than I can say for where we live in Australia . Pretty sure we’ll be booking any future accommodation through Agoda as well, simple quick and plenty of accurate information. Thanks again.
great location, great japanese hotel”
we loved our stay at the kyoto hotel okura, the staff was very nice, very helpful, they spoke great english. the hotel is also very conveniently located right above the shiyakusho-mae subway station on the tozai line. they also offer free internet in the their small business center downstairs in the lobby, it's very slow and keeps crashing but it's free! oh and if you don't want to have breakfast at your hotel, just go downstairs to the subway station there is a great bakery that offers lots of pastries and the rest for a good breakfast.
The location of this hotel is great. The room was a bit outdated, but perfectly clean. What sets this hotel apart was the staff. Very helpful, particularly the concierge who spent a lot of time making sure I wouldn't get lost getting around town, and had some terrific restaurant recommendations . Also, when I transferred to a ryokan to treat myself to one special night, the concierge called the ryokan to fill them in on the reservations Okura had already made for me. It was a nice touch.
Kyoto Hotel Okura is Outstanding”
We loved our stay at this hotel. We stayed in one of the lower priced rooms (2 twin beds) and feared that the room would be small or might need updating. The room was nicely sized and in perfect shape. The service was unbelievably good in all respect and the hotel is absolutely beautiful. It is perfectly located in Kyoto for visiting all of the different sections. There is a subway stop with access directly into the hotel. The Concierge was extremely helpful in guiding us on how to get to different parts of the city. We highly recommend this hotel.
