Great find!”

We were extremely pleased with the Kyoto Itoya Hotel. It is a smaller hotel (boutique?). It is conveniently located near a subway line, walking distance to Nishiki Market and about a 15- 20 minute walk to Kyoto Station. The room was modern, clean, comfortable and quiet. There are many restaurants nearby. We ate breakfast at the hotel and also tried two of the local diners across the street. There is a convenience store on the next block also. FYI: there isn't a washer/dryer for the guests. However, there is a cleaners next door. I highly recommend the Itoya and would definitely stay there again.

Nice and clean hotel”

Kyoto Itoya Hotel location is quite strategic though is not at the center of the happening places such as Gion and Kyoto Station. However, there are plenty of buses and subway that ease travelling between different part of the Kyoto. This hotel is 2 subway stations away from Kyoto Station. Some tip as we are lost when searching the hotel due to late at night, if there is a need to ask strangers for guide, ask them where is the police station after exiting the sunway exit. The hotel is few lots beside the police station. There is convenient stores, fast food, food chain nearby the hotels. The surrounding area around the area is quiet at night which is suitable for those who wanted quiet place. No worry on the safety part as Japan relatively safe.

Fantastic place to stay in Kyoto”

The hotel looks nicer than it is in the photos. When I first reached outside the hotel, I was already impressed by the look and feel of the hotel front. Nice typography on a black wall. The design from the walkway to the lobby has a very japanese and contemporary style. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly, room is nice, considerably big and very clean. If you don't want your room to be made, they are thoughtful enough to leave the necessary supplies/refill packed nicely in a paper bag placed outside your door. Cafe has comfortable lighting and seatings with a balcony for those who smoke. Family Mart and other food stores nearby, 1.5km to Nikishi Market and just 10 mins walk to the main shopping area. There is also a local Shrine and Subway nearby. Had a wonderful time staying with Itoya Kyoto. Only thing that can be improved is to provide more amenities.

Great Staff, Great Locations, Room A Little Bit Small”

Kyoto Itoya Hotel central location makes it a good stay to explore the rest of Kyoto. It is one subway stop away from Kyoto Station and six-blocks from Nishiki Market and Shijo Dori shopping district. Major bus stops and train stations only takes a 5-minute walk and convenience stores like Family Mart and 7-11 are just around the corner. The room is furnished in a contemporary and business-like design complete with all the in-house amenities like fridge, television and electric kettle (with some excellent green and brown rice teas). My only gripe was the room was quite small and narrow but it's understandable considering the price I paid for a good location. The staff have good command of English and are very helpful when we needed a change for JPY10,000 and recommendations for nearby eateries. We were even given soft drink vouchers - which we duly claimed for an orange juice and a pot of rosehip tea.

Conveniently located boutique hotel”

The Kyoto Itoya is a charming hotel located conveniently near Kyoto Station. Walking with luggage would be a bit challenging, but a quick cab ride gets you there. Check in is on the 2nd floor with an added touch of a real key to your room which you leave at the desk each time you leave the hotel. The rooms are Japanese “small” but our 2 twin room was comfortable and clean. Beds are comfortable and every room has plenty of toiletry amenities as well as a small fridge. I would definitely stay again in ever in Kyoto again.

Perfect Boutique Hotel!”

The accommodations at this quaint Boutique Hotel were very nice. Great beds, great showers, and best of all were the staff. They helped us with getting our luggage from their hotel to another hotel. They helped with getting the key out of my room after I locked the keys in. Everyone there was helpful and just perfect. Incredible customer service! With my broken Japanese and their English we made it work. I would not hesitate to stay again at the Kyoto Itoya. Wonderful experience!

Our best stay in Japan”

Amazing hotel, one of the few hotels that offer larger rooms. Staffs are friendly and are able to communicate in fluent English. Highly recommend you to try out the Japanese style breakfast that costs around USD$10 per person. It takes about 3-5 minutes walk to the nearest train station and Family Mart. Bathroom and toilet are very clean and well equipped. We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Kyoto Itoya Hotel and have already booked for our second visit because we know we will not regret our decision! :)

Adequate ”

We were in Kyoto for 3 nights and we booked to stay here for the entire trip to Kyoto. The room was larger than expected, there were breakfast at a cost but it was easy to get food at the surrounding area. Nice and helpful staff, which I thought was their greatest asset. Will aim to stay here again in the future and will certainly recommend Kyoto Itoya to family and friends.

Service, Room, facilities

I stayed 3 nights in Itoya Kyoto Hotel, the staff speak good English and helpful. The room is small but has all necessary facilities. Bed is comfortable. The location is reasonably near Gojo subway station, walking to both Kyoto and Shijo station takes about 15mins.

Great hotel with an Awesome Breakfast”

Hotel is located about 15 minutes walking distance from the main Kyoto station and central to everything we wanted to see in the limited time we had in Kyoto. The twin room we had was a good size and very clean. Front of house staff spoke more English than I do Japanese and there were no issues communicating. What really blew us away was the Japanese breakfast. For a very reasonable price you get a selection of dishes including (but not limited to because I might have forgotten something) rice, salmon, salad, miso soup and a stunning bean curd purée dish. Orange juice and coffee were included. Absolutely everything on the plate was so delicious that we ate it all - even though we were full half way through. I highly recommend it at least once during a stay here. I would return to this hotel if I'm ever fortunate enough to be in Kyoto again.

Great Service”

Very spacious (by Japanese hotel standards) rooms and bathrooms. You can tell the rooms were recently renovated as they were impeccable. The service from staff was really great and most were proficient enough in English to communicate with. Location wise it was walking distance of Kyoto station (15/20 mins) and Kawaramachi/Gion (20mins). The only thing I would say about this place was it was strange we had to return the key to the front desk every time we left. But it was no issue. Just a note that’s all haha otherwise I do recommend this place!

Excellent choice of accommodation in Kyoto”

Location, cleanliness, definite value for $$$

The hotel is located between Gojo and Shijo station, and is 10mins walk from J-Cylce bicycle rental shop if cycling around the town is part of your itinerary. Also walking distance to Nishiki Market and Daimaru, which is their shopping district. The room is not big, but not cramped either, the room layout is cleverly designed, the room size is just right with complete amenities with a (surprising) big bathtub! The quality of their body soap, shampoo and conditioner is high quality (with Royal jelly) so you don't really have to bother to bring your own, everything is provided for, including toothbrush, combs, scrubs, shower caps and shaver. The wifi connection has improved (as compared to the past review I read from other users who complained about the wifi connection), so no problem for me on that. The only interaction I had with the hotel staff was during checking in and out, there was nothing extra we requested for, things seemed to be seamlessly well-arranged! If I were to return to Kyoto, I will not hesitate to choose this hotel again, because it is just perfect for me. (Note: book early to avoid disappointment, it gets fully-booked pretty quickly)

Exceptional”

As per all the other review, this hotel is really a gem. Close by to Teramachi, Gion, Yasaka Shrine. You can opt to walk to these places or take a bus. The hotel do sell the ¥500 yen Kyoto City bus pass which save a lot in term of money & leg energy. Just opposite the hotel there ia this Takagi Coffee that serve good breakfast at very reasonable price. If you want to try Japanese Breakfast would recommend Kamo (buffet breakfast at ¥500 from 8am to 10am), about 15 to 20 min walk from hotel is did not take the bus, long queue so go early. Hotel staff is top notch n attend to your all your questions. Staff speak good english. To reach the hotel I recommend taking the sunway to Gojo Station and take Exit 2. the walk is nearer than Shijo Station.

Maybe my favorite hotel in Kyoto”

Traveling to Japan for many of the past 20 years., living here on husband’s job transfer for past three years. Solo trip to Kyoto and first time stay at this lovely small boutique hotel in location convenient to Kyoto station and also Gojo/Shijo Karasuma neighborhoods with buses that go just about everywhere along with Karasuma subway line. Hollywood twin was very nice corner room with twin beds together and two windows! Very clean, usual amenities. The breakfast was menu style, not buffet, at the time I went in winter. The choices were western style, Eggs Benedict, excellent egg dishes, baguette sandwich which they cut up and let me carry out. I asked if the chef had studied in France. That good! Constant sound of jazz from the dining/lounge/ library area. Best though was the staff, all warm, welcoming, with some (or a lot of) English. I was there for four nights and by the time I left, all could hand me my key upon my return without having to ask my room number. Lovely service!

Many eatery around this hotel, lovely and afforable breakfast from the coffee shop opposite the hotel. Friendly & helpful front desk staff, helped to call for restaurent for location and made reservation on behalf. We arranged the luggage forwarding service from Kawaguchi lake to Kyoto. When we checked in, the luggages already put in our room. Definitely will stay in this hotel when i come back to Kyoto again.

Great hotel in very good location central to bus and train lines. All staff we encountered were extremely nice and polite! We honestly were hardly at the hotel other than to sleep and shower, we were out all day long every day we were there, and did not eat breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on that. Having not been to Kyoto before we weren't sure how convenient this location would be to all the areas we wanted to visit so we only made the reservation for the first 3 nights of our 6 night trip. After staying 2 nights we decided that it was perfect centrally located and easily traveled from so we booked the last 3 nights there as well in the same room. The housekeeping staff was very thorough and the room was extremely clean, beds were comfortable, COLD air conditioning and HOT shower - 4 most important things in a room! We wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again on future visits and would definitely recommend to others!

Amazing hotel in excellent location”

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in in the past years. The staff is very friendly, the breakfast is excellent, especially given the low price of 1,000 Yen, the location is very central and easy to find. We loved the room, it was fairly spacious compared to other Japanese hotel rooms and we got an English explanation of how the air con works. Should I be lucky enough to go back to Kyoto soon, I will definitely book this hotel again!

Good location, nice ambience”

I did a quick comparison with the hotel i stayed with in Osaka compared to this one in Kyoto, I am giving this hotel 1 star less in terms of value for money because Osaka's room cost almost similar in pricing, also had good location, but was larger in space. Besides that point, I would still recommend this hotel due to its location and good pricing. Fantastic staff and service overall.

Good hotel in general ”

2nd time we stayed at Itoya. Still a good choice: convenience location between two major metro stations, walking distance to city centre in good weather, and nice staff. However, compared with 3 years ago, we found the room need some renovation maybe: it’s noticeable parts of wallpaper were tearing off and wall were stained, quite rare for a boutique Japanese hotel like Itoya. Other than that, we still enjoy the stay, detailed amenities and warm service.

Best small(ish) hotel, great value ”

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel and were overawed by the warmth and exceptional service of the staff. Knowing that it was our first visit to Kyoto , the staff guided us with food, sightseeing and transportation recommendations. For what we paid, we were very happy with the room's size and amenities. While it has no frills, the hotel's location is very good as it's close to Kyoto Station and within walking distance to the subway, bus stops, convenience stores, restaurants and the main shopping areas such ss Nishiki Market and Teramachi Shopping Street. Our only regret is that we did not have time to get better acquainted with the staff.
