charming traditional ryokan”

traditional, value for money, quite location & friendly staff

I stayed in Kyoto Garden Ryokan Yachiyo hotel for one night and wished I had more. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff helping us replace our snickers for traditional sandals. The room was great and the atmosphere was traditional which is what should be expected in a Ryokan. i did a lot of research before my purchase and was surprised to see this reasonably priced ryokan which was of a high quality. i recommend it for any traveller!

nostalgic buildings and rooms, iPad for lental for free

i had stayed in yachiyo ryokan with my mother 6 nights 7 days. we really enjoyed kyoto life with their help. the staffs are kind, always smiled. when we came back yachiyo from late dinner & drink, they allowed us to take a big bath(onsen). as it was pretty cold, we could sleep well after taking the bath. we stayed in yachiyo quite long days. ipad was for lental for free, so it was very helpful. we researched where we went, we discovered nice restaurant. :)) thank you yachiyo!

Beautiful Ryokan”

Quality, Friendly, Practical

It was my first time staying in a Ryokan and the Kyoto Garden Ryokan Yachiyo Hotel was amazing. I stayed for 3 nights, the staff were friendly, warm and helpful, it's just across the road from a community centre, a must go for maps. I was a single traveller and the room was very large, they put the bed out at night and away during the day. I was served tea when I arrived and you wear different slippers everywhere, it was very traditional.

Amazing stay at a ryokan in Koyto”

My husband and I stayed at Yachiyo the first week of April 2018. We had no trouble finding the location, conveniently a block away from the Keage metro stop. This ryokan has a wonderfully relaxing location, with rooms facing small gardens. Beautiful traditional rooms await you,. We were served tea upon arrival in our room. Nice touch. The staff was helpful, knowledgable and enthusiastic. Happy to see us on our way in or out. The facilities were excellent. Our view of the garden was amazing. A wonderful three nights in Kyoto with this oasis to call home during our stay. Highly recommend. We can’t wait to return another time!

Peaceful ryokan in Kyoto”

Yachiyo is a beautiful ryokan in Kyoto. It’s away from the busy parts (about 15min walking) so it feels like a peaceful escape. It’s very close to a few temples and you can easily get to the philosopher’s walk to Gingaku-ji. The staff were warm and welcoming and we wish we could have stayed longer. We stayed in the traditional Japanese room with no garden view and it was lovely. We had a tea set and hot water in our room and a tv which we didn’t use. Because we arrived late, the staff had already set out our tatami mats. We used the shared bathing (onsen) twice (9:30pm and 9:00 am) and had it all to our selves. Traditional robes were provided to wear to and from the bath. Highly recommend the free soft serve in the lobby after you soak.

A wonderful experience. ”

We had a lovely stay at Kyoto Garden Ryokan Yachiyo Hotel! The staff were all very nice and helpful which contributed greatly to the whole experience. I was confused about part of my reservation and they were very willing to assist me in straightening things out. The garden view room is amazing and I would definitely recommend this unforgettable experience to all! The hotel is perfectly located near many of the sights. We hope to be back in the near future!

Absolutely magical”

Beautiful design, Spacious Room, Fantastic View

I currently live in Japan, but this was my first stay in a ryokan. I stayed with a friend and it could not have been more perfect. Our room was very traditional and beautiful. We had a room with access to the garden, which was lovely. Our room was spacious with 2 bathrooms and the staff was very attentive. There is a also a bath on site which my friend and I really enjoyed. In the morning we chose the western style breakfast (I was very pleased to have the option) and it was simple but very nice - coffee, toast and jam, eggs and bacon. The dining area also has access to a garden with a koi pond, we finished up our coffee and fed the fish with food offered by the staff. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese experience, you can't beat the Yachiyo Hotel.

Beautiful Ryokan near Nanzenji Temple”

A few minutes walk to Nanzenji Temple and other spots around it but this place is more suited for couples than family. It is an old but beautiful Ryokan so its not comparable to a hotel. The place is very quiet and tranquil and not suitable for young children. We had a great New Year's Dinner at the restaurant, Japanese Style Sukiyaki and the Kobe Beef was absolutely delicious. Breakfast is average and served like a set meal so you dont get to have any choice. The highlight of the trip is exploring Nanzenji Shrine!

Attentive staffs, beautiful ryokan hotel, cleanliness

Staffs at Yachiyo Hotel are very attentive. Even they cannot speak English fluently, but they tried as hard as they can to help us. Although, it takes about half an hour by subway from Kyoto Station, the location is quite good. The hotel is located near several temples and Keage Subway Station. The Ryokan style is very pleasing. On-sen is good. For the room itself, it is a bit expensive comparing with the price we paid as it is a small room with tiny bathroom.

Traditional and Charming!”

Traditional dining, quiet yet accessible neighborhood, welcoming staff...

Our first visist to Japan brought us to Tokyo and Kyoto, each providing a very different pace and point of view. Kyoto Garden Ryokan Yachiyo introduced us to traditional dining, from charming breakfasts to a diverse Kaiseki menu for dinner. The onsen bath was anticipated daily, as the weather was damp & cool throughout our stay. Other features include the relaxing garden, the welcoming staff, and quiet neighborhood. Easy to find attrations are within walking and biking distance (provided free of charge), and just a few minutes walk to the subway. We hope to visit again soon!

Traditional & Peaceful Ryokan with good location”

Service, free bicycles, onsen style bath

This lovely ryokan offered us a great traditional experience in Japan. Sleeping on tatami floor and onsen style bath (separate men & women) were absolutely great. Our stay didn´t include any meals and we ate outside the ryokan, but according to reviews the food there is good as well. The location is exellent, if you prefer to Gion and Higashiyama-Ku districts, which have small alleys, tiny restaurants and shops, shrines, temples, geishas and maikos etc.

The Kyoto Nanzenji Ryokan Yachiyo is the best ryokan that I have stayed in Japan.”

The location is convenience. We saw it next to the famous attraction in Kyoto. The view for the room is great and beautiful. The dinner and breakfast set is traditional and delicious. The staffs are nice and helpful. The room is clean. But one special is there are many charges for drinks and tax. So the Yachiyo is a very nice experience for us.

Quaint, unique hotel in a tranquil area. ”

Traditional, accommodating staff, quiet location

after spending three nights in shinjuku, tokyo, yachiyo was very relaxing change. a very traditional japanese experience indeed. upon arrival, you are asked to remove your shoes and change into slippers. you are then taken to your room and served green tea. the rooms are very large and in traditional japanese style. futon mattresses are brought out and made for you whilst you are out for dinner. the staff speak very limited english but nevertheless go out of their way to assist you. the hotel is located on the quieter side of kyoto on the edge of a mountain. heritage listed temples surround the hotel. a cab to downtown kyoto takes between 5-10 minutes.

Beautiful garden, near sightseeing areas, friendly staff

Wonderful Ryokan experience and we will definitely stay here again if we go to Kyoto. Big room, comfortable japanese style bed that already fixed for us after we came back from dinner, beautiful garden, massage chairs in the lobby, very nice and friendly staff, provide us with hand warmer (very helpful during winter), we can use the bicycle for free on the day we arrived and after we checked out (our luggage still in the hotel and went out for more sightseeing).

A perfect Kyoto experience”

Wonderful atmosphere, some English speaking staff and very attentive service

Yachiyo is well situated on the East side of town, giving easy access to the town centre and the Higashiyama district. Staff are very attentive, and there are a number of good English speakers usually around to help those without Japanese. They were helpful in introducing a newcomer to how to use the sauna bath and how to wear the yukata. The hotel itself is very atmospheric, with lots of antiques, lovely gardens and very nicely turned out rooms. The food was also excellent.

location, excellent art collection, nice garden, great service,

I really loved this ryokan. The room was a good size. The service was excellent and done with care by lovely smiling women. The breakfasts were excellent and served in a beautiful room overlooking a pretty little garden. My special memory is the shojin ryori vegetarian breakfasts. I think dinner would be great too, but we walked every evening around the nearby Gion district. Altogether a memorable place to stay and i would highly recommend it.

An authentic experience”

Food, Traditional hotel, Service

It was a wonderful experience - the ryokan was nicely tucked away in a very nice quiet part of town, close to the beautiful Nanzen-ji compound. If you are the type to spend money on food, I highly recommend the keiseki dinner offered at the ryokan. It offers a wonderful experience of the haute cuisine that is famous in Kyoto - locally sourced fresh foods prepared daily as the seasons and its bounty provides. The wonderful ladies that serve you the 8-12 course dinner adds to the experience.

Exceptional”

There were some mixed reviews so I was nervous at first, but the stay was pleasant! We checked-in really late (past 10pm), and the staff that greeted us was polite. He spoke limited English, but made an effort to introduce the public bath and lounge along the way, and took the time to show us around our room. In the morning, we wanted hot water from the lounge and one of the staff approached us to help us out when she saw us looking confused. We practically had the whole public bath to ourselves around 7am. A little tip - there's a free soft serve machine in the lounge, and cold ice-cream tastes fantastic after a hot bath! Overall, I enjoyed my one night stay, but I can see why some might be disappointed with what they got. If you're expecting new looking rooms or romanticizing the "ryokan experience", the economy option is not for you! Paying more for a premium room is probably your best bet.
