This well-established Japanese inn is located in the Gion district of Kyoto, surrounded by plenty of historical attractions worth a visit. Still retaining its charm and traditions of the past, places to visit include Heian Jingu Shrine, Kiyomizudera Temple, Murinan Gardens, and the famous Nanzenji Temple which is a short walk away. The scenery is breathtaking with an abundance of tall trees and seasonal flowers for visitors to enjoy. Each room comes with its own unique style, presenting top-quality facilities for guests to take advantage of. As for a pleasant meal, the on-site restaurant serves Kaiseki cuisine, specializing in an array of tempura and sushi. Kyoto Nanzenji Ryokan Yachiyo presents the utmost comfort in a historical area.

I would have paid for the food alone!!”
We decided for a ryokan experience during our short visit in Kyoto, but the hotel and the room was very run down, there were molds on the bathroom door, the carpet smelled. The bedding smelled too much of whatever washing liquid they used. The dinner experience were ok, and understand why we have to pay extra for the food, but the room really need improvement!!
The Kyoto Nanzenji Ryokan Yachiyo is the best ryokan that I have stayed in Japan.”
The location is convenience. We saw it next to the famous attraction in Kyoto. The view for the room is great and beautiful. The dinner and breakfast set is traditional and delicious. The staffs are nice and helpful. The room is clean. But one special is there are many charges for drinks and tax. So the Yachiyo is a very nice experience for us.
Beautiful Ryokan near Nanzenji Temple”
A few minutes walk to Nanzenji Temple and other spots around it but this place is more suited for couples than family. It is an old but beautiful Ryokan so its not comparable to a hotel. The place is very quiet and tranquil and not suitable for young children. We had a great New Year's Dinner at the restaurant, Japanese Style Sukiyaki and the Kobe Beef was absolutely delicious. Breakfast is average and served like a set meal so you dont get to have any choice. The highlight of the trip is exploring Nanzenji Shrine!
Excellent service & good variety of food”
I love the atmosphere here, very peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The staffs are very friendly, always greeting you with smiles, and help you when you are in needs. The food portion was very generous, delicious and variety. We love spending our time here.
This establishment was extremely dishonest, rude and manipulative. We pre payed at great expense for a large room with a view - and they gave us an incredibly small dark room looking out at a wall. When we complained they claimed that our price was ‘so’ high because of the dinner charge - $700 for 2 adults and 2 kids! I’ve never been swindled in this manner - it truly was one of the worst travel experiences I have had. Truly traumatic for the whole family. Do NOT pre pay at this establishment!
Very nice ryokan and friendly staff ”
Wonderful Ryokan experience and we will definitely stay here again if we go to Kyoto. Big room, comfortable japanese style bed that already fixed for us after we came back from dinner, beautiful garden, massage chairs in the lobby, very nice and friendly staff, provide us with hand warmer (very helpful during winter), we can use the bicycle for free on the day we arrived and after we checked out (our luggage still in the hotel and went out for more sightseeing).
great n friendly stay”
Our stay was pleasant n good services provided when we are up n out, everything is tidy up clean n lay in manner daily. Hot n cold drinking water are also provided daily with nice little snacks lay on table. its very thoughful of the Ryokan staffs.
a very traditional japanese hotel”
The hotel is very easy to find . It's very near the metro station . You can simply arrive the hotel in around 5 mins on foot. the hotel manager is nice . the room is clean , tidy & large . I did have a very good time staying here. But, breakfast and dinner are not included in agoda package ( so sad). I need to pay extra dollars on the hotal breakfast ( and you need to reserve the breakfast / dinner before 6pm on the previous day ) That is quite inconvenient !
A taste of traditional Ryokan”
We were eating our Keiseki too fast! Slow down and enjoy the food! The Keiseki dinner was very beautifully prepared and presented. But I think I was too hungry to fully appreciate the art in the meal. Don't make that mistake! The staff could speak English, and surprisingly, the "doorman" was an elderly gentlemen with impeccable English.
Traditional & Peaceful Ryokan with good location”
This lovely ryokan offered us a great traditional experience in Japan. Sleeping on tatami floor and onsen style bath (separate men & women) were absolutely great. Our stay didn´t include any meals and we ate outside the ryokan, but according to reviews the food there is good as well. The location is exellent, if you prefer to Gion and Higashiyama-Ku districts, which have small alleys, tiny restaurants and shops, shrines, temples, geishas and maikos etc.
For the experience”
I wouldn't do it again because of the price, but it was definitely an experience. The staff, like all of Japan was excellent; kind and welcoming. If you want to experience a luxury Ryokan, this is definitely a place to stay. FYI, I love the soft serve they had and the bathroom<33
The best experience we had in Japan. Even though price is steep, the staff make you feel like a king. I greatly admire the elderly whom are working there - Best service we had (even by Japanese standard) Recommend++ if your budget allows
The Ryokan is amazingly beautiful. Our room had a private hot bath and a breathtaking garden view. The food, both western and Japanese, was excellent, and the staff was very friendly and courteous. Highly recommended.
I was staying in garden view room with private hot bath tub (NOT Onsen) for one night. The room design was modern, looked newly refurbished, and with beautiful garden view. My stay included a wagyu sukiyaki dinner set (they called it Kaiseki. To my knowledge, they should provide a menu on the table showing the dishes they were serving in sequence, but we don’t have it, probably ours were simple like fast food meal. So I don’t think that we were having a traditional Kaiseki dinner) and a Japanese style breakfast. Anyway, taste is ok. The meal was served in a restaurant but not in our room, it was a little bit disappointed. Early Check-in process make us felt abandoned. After confirming guest name and having our luggage stored, we were asked to sit in a lounge and wait for no reason. No one come to us after 15mins, and I asked for leaving for lunch (as we were staving), and the receptionist said we were free to go, just come back at 3pm for check in.... What?? Overall my experience makes me never rate this ryokan with a high score. Warm reminder - 1. Overpriced 2. Don’t come here for private or public Hot spring / Onsen. No such things. 3. ~JPY2,000 taxi ride from JR Kyoto station
Not recommended place to bring a family”
This place is recommend for people who find ryokan, but the facility is not quite good if you bring babies
Very Cool Ryokan Experience”
Wonderful, traditional ryokan located next to beautiful temples in Kyoto. The staff was friendly, the food was exciting, and I forgot my Kindle there and they mailed it to my next destination!
A truly enchanting experience ”
This place manages to achieve the right balance between traditional discipline and family friendly service. The restaurant by the manicured Japanese garden was one of the most amazing experience we had in Japan
Ryokan with good location and service”
The ryokan is located in a more quieter side of Kyoto but still within 5-10 mins walking distance from train station. Our room is the standard room with no garden view. Everything is great, we will want to try the room with garden the next time we visit!
Amazing stay at a ryokan in Koyto”
My husband and I stayed at Yachiyo the first week of April 2018. We had no trouble finding the location, conveniently a block away from the Keage metro stop. This ryokan has a wonderfully relaxing location, with rooms facing small gardens. Beautiful traditional rooms await you,. We were served tea upon arrival in our room. Nice touch. The staff was helpful, knowledgable and enthusiastic. Happy to see us on our way in or out. The facilities were excellent. Our view of the garden was amazing. A wonderful three nights in Kyoto with this oasis to call home during our stay. Highly recommend. We can’t wait to return another time!
Rooms surrounded by lovely japanese garden”
We had a memorable stay at Yachiyo. The rooms are nicely renovated with private semi-outdoor bath and bathrooms. Location is not too far from Kyoto city centre but still a very tranquil environment. One thing to improve would be better if they let me choose the dinner menu in advance.
