Enjoyed our stay”
The ryokan is just across from the bus stop, very easy to find. Very clean and staff are friendly. Loved the dinner and breakfast; beautifully presented and tasty. Only gripe is that it's expensive.
Great location and nice place.”
This was great location and staff was very helpful and attentive. We’ll maintained accommodations. Japanese bath was very underwhelming. We stayed in western room so did not have the full experience. It was an expensive night with not much luster
I booked this ryokan for 2 nights without booking the kaiseki dinner with the intention of booking the dinner for only 1 out of 2 nights once I arrived in Kyoto. However, I was informed that I had to book the dinner 7 nights in advance so I feel like it was a waste of money to book the ryokan without the full experience of staying in a ryokan. Other than that, the room was very big and could easily fit our family of 4 and the location was decent.
So so....(And no ryokan food without advanced reservation!) ”
The facilities were very nice, and the rooms were clean. We particularly liked the private showers in our rooms (304 and 305) because they gave us the option of using the public bath or private one. My only gripe had to do with the general lack of communication. First, when booking I had a hard time figuring out whether a traditional ryokan dinner was included. It turns out it was not. I tried calling ahead to see if it was okay to arrive at 6:45 pm because most ryokan I've stayed at have a hard deadline by which you must arrive if you want to eat. When I called they simply said that time was ok. When we did arrive, I asked if they served dinner and the staff member who showed us in aid what I believe was that it was reservation only (i.e., that you had to pay), which was a little surprising given that the rooms weren't necessarily cheap. When I asked if I could reserve it, I was told it was not possible. I then asked the staff member whether, since we apparently missed dinner, he could recommend any good place nearby. I figured they might have a place with which the ryokan has a good relationship, but he pretty flatly told me there were tons of places around and we should just look and find one. A little later (still the evening of check in) I went to the front desk and asked whether I could reserve breakfast for the next morning, but the staff member I asked (a different person) curtly rejected me. That is why I am giving such a lukewarm review. As a final, tiny point, I reserved two rooms for four people, and one of the rooms (mine) didn't have pillows. My wife and I had to poke around in the closet where they usually store extra blankets to find them. I normally wouldn't care, but my friends in the other room mentioned more than once how great their buckwheat pillows were, and we didn't have the chance to experience the same. Minor, but annoying. All in all, given the many alternatives, I don't think I would go back. The price wasn't good enough to reserve
The location of The Kinoe is excellent, no question! Right in the center of Gion you are located in the most beautiful part of Kyoto: all attractions of the Geiko district are just minutes away. But what makes the difference is the warmth of their hospitality and the level of service. We felt immediately welcome with our baby - all wishes were anticipated in the same way your family would respond! Check out the place and share your thoughts!!
The KINOE is very convenient to access by taking Bus 206 from Kyoto Station. It is in Gion with lots of shopping, dining and entertainment. The ryokan has a very traditional feel and rooms are clean and big. We booked the room with dinner and breakfast and although it was quite expensive, the experience of was well worth it. The traditional dinner was sumptuous, very fresh and tasty. The traditional breakfast was also very good.
Kind and convenient ”
It was a quiet place, so I felt comfortable on my vacation. Also place was good to travel. Workers are very kind. They explained and recommended the travel route with map they gave. Dinner and breakfast are delicious!
Very nice experience in Kyoto”
Great Japanese-style hotel with traditional decorations. Delicious in-door breakfast with comfortable service. Good location near Gion, where locates many famous and restaurants sightseeing spots.
First Ryokan Inn experience”
We didn't know what to expect with our first Ryokan experience but we were very pleased with the Kinoe. There really isn't much to the Inn except the room but that was the experience we were looking for and was only in the room to sleep and have breakfast as we were out exploring all day. I would not recommend if you enjoy hotel facilities on your holiday. However, if you want a traditional Japanese Ryokan Inn Experience than this is the place.
Location Location Location”
Very pleasant, location was superb, walking distance to all the major attractions and great restaurants. The staff gave us very good info on where to find great Japanese cuisine during our stay. Seven Eleven and supermarket nearby. Very clean and spacious room with private shower and toilet, on top of public bath on the ground floor.
This is our first Ryokan experience in Kyoto. Very central location, about 20 minutes walk to GION and lots eateries and shopping nearby. Their Japanese style breakfast onsite was superb. Great service, clean and would love to come back here for stay in the future.
Traditional Ryokan experience ”
we decided to stay in a ryokan for our kyoto trip although it is a little more expensive. It's a good experience to complete the Japan trip. The hotel is located in Gion area and there are a lot of nice restaurants around. it is also near a few shrines and temples that you can visit. But it is not near to any subway. We took bus 206 from Kyoto station to the ryokan. The staff are not good with English but the rooms are clean and well taken care of.
Amazing experience, a real treat!”
A true Japanese experience. Absolutely amazing food, lovely warm staff, very helpful and made to feel very welcome and relaxed. A little hidden gem in the centre of Gion close to all the shops and yhe Geisha streets. We went all out and had the full dinner and breakfast for 2 nights. It was just suburb. Immaculately cleaned and very spacious Japanese style room. We had a 8 month old baby with us and they went out of their way to accomodate us. My only fault would be that it is a costly experience- but cheaper than most Ryokans. The front of house man was so lively and fabulous with our baby, wisking hinoit of our arms and playing with him while we sorted our selves out. The young man and lady who served our meals and prepared our room were also beautiful kind people. Highly recommended 👌
Great choice for Kyoto visit!”
Great location+Japanese traditonal style room+Exceptional service=Perfect! Special thanks to Mr.宇田功士，who helped me contact the Bus company and get back my gift bag lost on the bus! He even helped us get the discounted train tickets to Tokyto. If you have any question, the hotel staff is definitely helpful and accountable.
Good to stay!!”
It was good to stay here. But I couldn't use the public bath because of the time. If I could go there again, I would use the public bath. Except that, breakfast was very awesome and my husband and I was satisfied with the service.
Friendly staffs who really sensitive to your needs . Even have English speaking staff to help you. Great location . Near majority of the tourist places of interest . Excellent choice !!
Decent Ryokan experience”
Pleasant enough experience. Staff were polite and the food was good. The reception area could be brighter though
Loved the Kinoe! And Kenji who works there is AMAZING!”
Incredible location next to Geisha area, Gion, temples and shopping streets. We had the traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast which were eye-openers ( and the charming women who served us) and the level of service was (outstanding, even in Japan where service is amazing anyway). Kenji was amazing and helped us so much and went out of his way to look after us! We hope to go back next year for a longer stay!
we stayed here 2 nights during our Kyoto visit, the room was beautiful and spacious, staff was friendly and helpful, we decided to have breakfast and it was an experience on its own, worth paying for, ryokan is perfectly localised to visit Gion but it is also walking distance to the city centre
Koji-san at the front desk went out of his way to ensure we were well taken care of and found us a wonderful restaurant off the beaten track! Wonderful Japanese breakfast and perfect location - definitely recommend!
