Pet-friendly and quiet”

Around the 4th of July, my neighborhood seems to host multiple amateur fireworks blitzes. Every year I resent these people who need to perform patriotism by simulating being shelled; every year I resent how they turn my dog into a shaking, drooling, traumatized wreck; every year I yell and shake my fist at the heavens and call the police on these jerks. This year, I went looking for a place to take refuge, me and my husband and my dogs, from the noise and the trauma. Casa del Zorro was perfect: The casita was welcoming, neat, spacious and spaced away from neighbor-noise. The property had nice paths with sufficient shade to walk the pups. It was Away from all fireworks shows and fireworky neighbors; we heard zero booms or crackles or whistles, and we LOVED it. We were treated very well by the desk staff and the bar and restaurant servers, and we appreciated the thoughtful touches like the pre-filled cooler of ice that awaited us in the room when we arrived. The front and back patios on our casita were nice for stargazing, but there's an even better stargazing area on the property we could have gone to, with fewer trees and building lights. We would love to return!

Pool Side King Bed Non-Smoking

The weekend rate is astronomical for what you are getting. The room is nice, but over 400 for one night is quite a bit. The pool areas are small and pleasant enough, and I understand closing the hot tubs during the pandemic, but please, something nicer than the yellow caution tape would be a bit more pleasant to look at while paying this price. Same as can be said for part of the parking area, yellow caution tape all over the area where we were parking. Other issues, the poolside bar is not open poolside, you actually have to go and stand at the hostess counter inside the bld to order poolside drinks.

Very poor service by management and staff”

Although exemplary service may have been a hallmark when this resort was established in a bygone era, this is not the case any longer. As other reviewers state, grounds and facilities are very nice (as established long ago), but these days, poor service by management and staff taints the entire experience. This was our 2nd stay in the past year. Again, we were faced with unhappy, undertrained and rude staff quick to make the excuse of “we’re so busy” as to why the level of service is so low. In the half empty restaurant, the rude hostess made us feel like we’d be lucky if our dinner reservation could be honored. Our dinner for two consisting of a round of drinks and entrees took 2 hours. All guests were experiencing the same issue as tense, angry words came from all directions. Breakfast took 90 minutes, resulting in us being a little late to check out, which the clerk gave us grief for, then brushed off our excuse of a 90-minute breakfast in a nearly empty restaurant with “we’re so busy”. We gave them a second try. Won’t be going back.

Baking in Borrego ”

This place is a local legend as it was once owned by a powerful newspaper family and a retreat for their political allies including 2 or 3 US presidents. Evidently the property has gone through several owners since then and is returning to its former status. We booked on Father's Day 2016 and thus it was already summer in the desert Temperatures soared to 120 F. As a consequence outdoor activities were limited to a rapid exit from air-conditioned car into air-conditioned lobby. a stroll about the premises at 3:00 am and swimming. Meals were excellent, crafted from local produce as much as possible and staff went the extra mile. Not everybody loves the desert, but if you do, spring is the best time just after the rains when the flowers pop out. The town of Borrego Springs consists of one main street and a circular roundabout adjacent to which there's a newly restored architectural landmark. The Borrego Art Institute and Kesling's Kitchen are housed in what used to be a market building designed by controversial mid century architect, William Kesling. At the other end of town in the foothills, is a popular 1950's desert resort gradually being rejuvenated by a daring couple. It retains the mystic of movie stars and celebrities from that era. On another visit I had gone hiking in the hills in search of a spring that turned out to be little more than a rapid drip. In 120 degree heat, this didn't seem like a good idea.

nice place but not a good value”

Nice place, but too pricey for what it is, and the staff and facilities are not resort-quality. With the extra $25/night resort fee, it really gets expensive, and the on-site food and services are even more pricey. Your money can be better spent elsewhere.

Close to perfect”

I can't think of anything that would've made this experience any better. The bathroom was palatial the Decor was outstanding the beds were excellent the pool was steps away . I have read some contrary reviews and I am stunned! I'm trying very hard to think of one thing to complain about and I can't! Maybe young side breakfast would have been a plus but certainly not a necessity in our case as we like to go into town to explore . My assessment of the property and staff is an A.
