Not worth the money”
Very expensive for a standard beach resort. Prices are even more than when i was at the kempinski or Four seasons. A beer costs $15 so you can work out the rest. I live in geneva and i find it cheaper here to eat and drink with a Lobster meal then this resort.

A pleasant resort but expensive”
We decided to stay at the La Pirogue resort on recommendation following a trip we made around the UK and parts of Europe. Mauritius is ideally located for us considering there are direct flights between Perth in Australia where we live and Paris in Europe which was a destination. The complex is large and the staff all wonderful. It is spread over a large area and leads down to a beach. Unfortunately the coral reef in Mauritius has been spoilt and broken coral litter the beach and sea which makes it difficult to comfortably walk on the beach. Some resorts seem to have removed the coral from their sand, but La Pirogue hadn't done this and I can see this would be a never ending task. The resort is very much geared to families and romantic couples, and those who are interested in diving. There are kids clubs too. We stayed in a Superior Ocean View room 'hut' which was lovely, although it did have a bit of a damp smell about it and it was clear that a number of them were being done up as some were cordoned off. Ours (room 303) had a big tarpaulin on the thatched roof so clearly there have been issues with this roof in the past. It kind of took away a bit of the character for me. A number of other huts had them too. La Pirogue gave us a room to shower in (room 306) before we left and that was disappointingly mouldy on the ceiling and in the bathroom - I'm glad we didn't stay there. We also lost hot water one morning and received no news as to why that was, when it was returned or any apology. The resort is an hour's drive from the airport and there is very little around it other than other resorts - unless you drive or take a cab. So they have a captive market and the place isn't cheap ($5AUD for a coffee). We went on a package including breakfast and the food selection is vast, wide ranging and tasty (buffet style). We also ate one evening in Paul and Virginie's place (an on resort a la carte restaurant) and the food there was great - really tasty. Unfortunately we h

Gardens were nice. Can access sugar beach facilities.
A little disappointing. Staff were lazy, inattentive and required constant following up. Expected more considering the rates.

Our Stay at a 4.5 star”
The gardens, the room and the breakfast.
Average ! I was expecting warmer welcome, walked a long distance to the room but was happy with it then. Disappointed with the animation which I think lacked a soul. The skeleton band was not to my expectations. On Monday the announced Jazz never happened ! Despite several dance invitations only children were on the dance floor which is yet another sign of no-show from the band. However our objective was to rest and with the rain we managed to get that rest. Also a lot of falling cutlery (show lack of commitment of the staff, who are always talking to the colleagues loudly). Overall very average.

Where Sky meets Sea”
1. The glorious beach ; 2. The friendly service ; 3. Well manicured gardens
The first thing that struck us were the miles of white sandy beach and turquoise waters spanning into the horizon. Such natural beauty is rare. Together with clean air and wide spaces, our holiday could not have been better. The large resort do require some walking to dining and recreation areas (averaging 5-6 km from our chalet) but the exercise is good. We started of with bed and breakfast but after 2 days, converted to all inclusive as nearest eating places outside the resort require a 10 min bus ride. Staff are very friendly and helpful . Hope to return one day to this laid back quiet hotel on a wonderful island .

Good resort well worth the money”
The Breakfast buffet, the staff and the pool
We had a great welcome on arrival. sat at a desk while checking in and given a fresh towel. We had arrived by hired car and they unloaded it and provided valet parking. We were ferried to the room in a golf cart. The Room The rooms are infact small cottages, great. The bed was reasonable but the pillows were foam rubbish; however upon complaint they provided flatter pillows. Every day there were flowers left in the room - super little touch. The air-con was noise and although they sent an engineer it was never really fixed. We found the TV tiny in comparison to other hotels we recently stayed in. The Bathroom There was a bath - excellent. The Shower was good with a rain head that actually worked The toileries were good and replaces every day. General The fittings were getting a bit wearly as show by the air-con.

Best place for weddings on Mauritius”
Rooms, Nature, Staff
We stayed in La Pirogue for 9 days and had our wedding ceremony there. The hotel is located on the best beach of the island - Flic en Flac and has very big territory covered with palms. As all rooms are in the separate bungalows all guests are separated by beautiful gardens and has quite a lot of space to enjoy nature. The rooms are very big and you have a lot of space inside - much more than seen on the photos. As bungalow roof is very high and shaped into triangle making room planning asymmetric and feel very special. It is very different from other hotels. Staff is very responsive and helpful, rooms are clean. For the couples that are looking forward to get married on Mauritius we would highly recommend La Pirogue because: * It is located on the west coast so you can have wedding on the sunset * It is located on the most famous and wide beach on the island * The staff in guest relations will help you to organize everything you can imagine for your special day * Royal suits with private garden are just what you'll want for your first night ;) * Scenery for the photo shots is great with hundreds of palms you'll never find anywhere on the island.

La Pirogue Hotel”
landscape,rooms,beach
we feel really lucky to choose this hotel for our vacation in mauritius.we opted halfboard option and it turned out great for us since we really dont hv enough energy and time left for us to wander around for food after a whole day of explorations.we went out for activities every morning and came back late evening,so we suggest halfboard if u are planning to have day out like we did.the room was great, the landscape was amazing and the beach is wonderful.we arrived there late at night and we were too tired to hv our dinner, after a few minutes of filling up forms and finished our ice creams(yes, they served us ice cream and drinks...;) )we hv been sent to our cozy little cottage, and to our surprised they did return and served us dinner in room...how amazing.... one more thing that will make us come back is their kids club...every evening my daughter will spend a very good time over there untill its close at 10 pm.overall,la pirogue is a very fantastic place to stay...;)

La Pirogue Hotel, Mauritius”
Perfect for sunsets.
The rooms and facilities were adequate but not luxurious. Bearing in mind the cost we felt the room basic, almost spartan and more fitting of a two or three star hotel. The hotel itself was large and impersonal. It quickly became apparent that the main focus for staff were the large tour groups rather than individual travellers. Before sunset we walked for ten minutes to the adjacent Sugar Beach hotel, which shares facilities with Pirogue and sat down to enjoy a drink in the beach front bar. It was definitely quieter and more relaxing then La Pirogue. Very pleasant spot to enjoy a few drinks and watch the sun go down. However around 1930 we found ourselves alone....the other guests having rushed to dine! Living and working in Asia we normally eat later in the evening and found it quite odd how everyone rushed off to eat their evening meal at the same time and not relaxing at all. Fortunately we had booked dinner at the smaller restaurant in La Pirogue, near the sea front rather than the main restaurant where 'entertainment' was also provided. The meal was ok, nothing outstanding and marred by the fact the lighting was so dim we were unable to really see what we were eating. We also had to pay extra for eating there! The bar by the beach was almost deserted after dinner and, not wishing to join the 'organised' entertainment at the main restaurant and bar we had an early night. Overall our stay at La Pirogue was disappointing and, as we found out the next day, had we continued another mile or so down the coastal road we could have stayed an extra night at the delightful Maradiva Villas instead of wasting a night at La Pirogue. The difference in price was only small yet the comparison of facilities and service huge. At Maradiva we had our own, luxuriously appointed villa complete with private pool, a quiet beach and watefront pool that were both quiet. Plus the restaurant served a delicious evening meal in a delightful setting. No co
