experience Hoi An's antique atmosphère”
If you want to experience the old Hoi An anytime during your stay (even in your sleep), pick La Tonnelle. If u expect large scale 5-star facilities then don't choose La Tonnelle (even though the staff is friendly and attentive) The hotel is located right in the old quarter. It must have been an old residence that was changed into a hotel. It's very small (only 3 rooms i think) with little 5-star hotel facilities but it gives off the antiquity and vintage feeling so representative of Hoi An with nice rooms and garden. The front garden cafe is a great add-on to the hotel and is one of the nice cafes to sit an relax in Hoi An. Even though the hotel is small, the rooms are well equipped and beautifully designed. The breakfast had very limited choice but was nice. I wouldn't complain considering the size of the hotel. The staff was friendly and attentive. Also, the hotel is literally 3-minute walk from the Japanese bridge. You can easily walk around to all the major attractions or rent a bike for only $1.5/day. We highly recommend biking around the old quarter and then to the beach. Overall we had a very pleasant stay in the hotel and will definitely come back whenever we visit Hoi An.

Beautiful, welcoming, calm, peaceful”
La Tonnelle is a true hidden gem. Chung was our main point of contact and she is really lovely and friendly - very welcoming. The hotel is absolutely beautifully decorated and maintained, situated on the only pedestrianised street in Hoi An which means it is delightfully quiet and away from the buzzing and beeping mopeds. You can walk into Hoi An old town within a couple of minutes, and there are lots of nice bars and eateries as well as lovely shops on the same street as La Tonnelle. We ate mostly at La Tonnelle though, as the food and drink is exceptional!! The rooms are rustic, clean, simply furnished, calm and lovely. It really felt like a true escape and is perfect for a mini break style getaway. We hired bikes and cycled to the beach in 20 minutes, and we had an aiport transfer there and back which was efficient and inexpensive and our driver was charming. We will definitely stay at La Tonnelle again.

Dream self contained villa in Hoi An. ”
We stayed in the La Tonnelle villa for 6 nights during July 2014. We had initially booked 3 nights online but extended it for another 3 after discovering that we actually had our own spacious self contained 3 bedroom double storey villa, all to ourselves! The owners were lovely and encouraged us to stay on as another booking for the villa had fallen through. We felt so lucky and so spoilt particular as Tam the housekeeper arrived every day to tidy and make the beds and to take out the rubbish. Tam even escorted me to the market and for a few extra AUS dollars cooked us dinner one night. It was fantastic! We hired push bikes and motorbikes through La Tonnelle and had yummy breakfast and sweet iced coffees and mango shakes there each morning giving us the opportunity to chat to the lovely staff about local restaurants and beaches etc. I highly recommend this accom for families with older kids or couples happy with sharing accom. For families with younger kids the stairs would be the only issue but if you were happy to work around that then it would be fine. 1 bedroom and bathroom downstairs and 2 bedrooms with ensuites upstairs. There is an outdoor shower and beautiful paved garden outside with good shade from the starfuit tree. There is a table setting outside and inside and the villa is well equiped with fans and ceiling fans downstairs and a/c in the bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for a family holiday and the fridge stocked with delicious french Rose, good Pinor Grigio, reds and of course the local beer!Situated on the quite walking street just down from the Japanese Bridge, it the ideal location to explore Hoi An Ancient town, the markets, the restaurants and the local countryside. A short motorbike ride or cabride and we were lounging by the beach eating Banh Mi and sipping on cold drinks. Thank you La Tonnelle, we'll be back!

Perfect and simple”
With so many hotel options in Hoi An we are glad we took the time to search out La Tonnelle. Located on a quiet street down past the tourist hotspots and beyond the Japanese Bridge, the hotel/homestay was easy to miss - they are in the process of changing the name and local regulations prohibit the use of non Viet signage. The rooms are simply furnished with wooden floors and a reasonable sized bathroom. We had room 3 up a short flight of steep stairs located off a common lounge area. Windows open out onto the adjacent rooftops. We used the aircon quite a bit (it was touching 40 deg when we were there) but the bed comes with a mosquito net if you want to leave the windows open. Breakfast was simple (we especially liked the bananas and yoghurt)and served on the terrace fronting the street where you can watch the stall holders setting up for the day. In the evening the children play in the street as it is largely traffic free. The staff are very helpful and can arrange cars, moped rental, laundry etc. The receptionist (Chung) gets a special mention for her helpfulness and friendliness. We agreed with her that the best ice cream in Hoi An is cinnamon, served from the shop down by the river.

Great location and price”
La tonnelle is a great hotel right in the heart of Hoi An, about 200m from the Japanses bridge, a perfect location! Rooms are simple but very clean and have everything you need. The staff were so friendly and Would help you do anything you needed. The services were great, washing for $1.50 a kilo, bike hire for a day and they will organize private transport back to the airport. The only negative is that because the house is built with a lot of wood it can get quite echoey and if you have loud neighbours it may be hard to go to sleep. Would reccomend to anyone staying in Hoi An, purely for location and price.

Amazing second stay at La Tonnelle”
We came back to La Tonnelle in December 2015 after a great stay in April 2014, and we were delighted to find nothing had changed and it was even better than we remembered. This time we came with a young baby so our requirements were a bit differet but a cot was provided for our son to sleep in and the staff were helpful whenever we needed to bring the stroller through the restaurant and very kind and welcoming. The rooms are lovely, the food delicious and the atmosphere peaceful and relaxing. The street is really close to the japanese bridge and is part of the ancient town but more quiet so perfectly located. We loved staying here and my husband and Dad hired mopeds, airport transfer was great and everything here is incredibly good value for money. Perfect place - the best in Hoi An we think :) thank you La Tonnelle.

Wonderful boutique hotel. Great people!”
We had a wonderful stay at La Tonnelle so much so we didn't want to move anywhere at all. We stayed longer than was expected and we spent almost every night at their front porch drinking with travelers and the owners and chatting about everything and anything. The rooms are very unique. We had the room on the ground floor which came with a huge living room, a little garden and a nice bedroom with a canopy bed. We even had our own private pantry with tea and coffee. The Hotel is located on a very quiet street very near the Old Japanese Bridge. It was a very comfortable stay in such a quaint place. Breakfast was delightful and it was always a pleasure speaking with the owner Mel Anie and Kenzo which is the biggest part of what we miss about Hoi An.

Snugly warm & comfortable with very friendly staff”
La Tonnelle have very limited rooms. 3 or 4 which make it very homely, especially with the deco + lighting. Had a very pleasant stay. Staffs are friendly, helpful and speak very well English to understand what we need. The only thing they don't have is hair dryer, bring your own. Wish to stay longer and will definitely return next time. Lovely La Tonnelle, Lovely Hoi An

Beautiful hotel in fantastic location”
La Tonnelle is in a great location, really central to the highlights of Hoi An town yet still peaceful. While not to everyone's taste - if you like shiny new places with mod cons - the hotel is beautiful! The outside courtyard is really inviting and the rooms are simply yet interestingly decorated. It really has character. Staff is friendly and very helpful and breakfast is tasty. Shower was a bit tricky but other than that, no complaints.

Absolutely gorgeous!”
What a delight La Tonnelle is. They have just 3 rooms, without TV or a pool but it was a privilege to stay there. Hoi An was relatively busy when I was there and it was a relief to walk across the Japanese bridge to the serenity of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai St. Its so beautiful to sit in their gorgeous courtyard having breakfast, coffee, a drink, dinner, whatever and watching whatever is happening on the quiet street in front. All the staff were so attentive and would help you with anything. The cao lau noodles were the best I had in Hoi An. I was there for 5 nights but will stay longer next time.

Fantastic location and lovely rustic appeal”
La Tonnelle is definitely a great place to stay. It has a wonderful rustic feel to it with the wooden floor boards, mozzie nets and basic bathroom. The courtyard is a great place to sit and have a drink and take in the passing crowds. The location is fantastic. It is a two minute walk to the Japanese Bridge and convenient to all the shops. The hotel is in the pedestrian only area so it is nice not to have to battle hundreds of scooters. I found the staff to be super friendly and helpful; the service I received was above my expectations. I had a pair of pants that I wanted taken in and asked for a recommendation of which tailor to use - they advised me that they could do it for much less and it only cost me 10,000 VND. On another occasion I arrived back from a sunrise tour of My Son at 11am and they still insisted I could have my free breakfast. They then offered me a taste of their breakfast (sticky rice and bean curd pancake). They also helped me to negotiate the exchange rate when I was being charged more than the current rate by a shoe maker. The rooms are basic, but clean and have aircon, a bar fridge with a free bottle of water daily. The mattress is firm (this seems to the norm in Vietnam). They provide shampoo and soap. Please note that if you are elderly, have heavy bags or have issues with climbing that you only book the room on the ground floor as the stairs are very steep and there is no elevator. The hotel is also known as Van Phi Homestay.

The most beautiful place we have ever stayed. ”
We loved everything about La Tonnelle. The location was perfect. The room was quaint, clean and adequate.Felt like we were in a French farm house. The location was perfect, quiet but so close to everything. The managers and staff were wonderful..so friendly, helpful, amusing and informative..made it feel like "Home". Could not praise La Tonnelle enough. The most enjoyable place we have ever stayed in the most beautiful place you could stay. Thank you for making our holiday so special. We cannot wait to come back again. Sure am missing the lovely Vietnamese iced tea on your verandah.

Favourite Hotel in Hoi An”
Everything about our stay at La Tonnelle was fantastic. It's on the other side of the Japanese Bridge but still in the Old Town, meaning it's pedestrian only and quieter than other places you can stay. It has a beautiful front garden/terrace and the rooms are simple but elegant. The staff and owners are all incredibly attentive and you can tell that it is incredibly well managed. Great place for couples to stay in Hoi An!

Fantastic!! The best place in Hoi An, no doubt.”
we stayed only 2 days in la tonelle because there were no rooms available later... it was sad to leave! the girls in the reception are super nice and interesting. the breaksfast is "a la carte" and we got it any time we wanted, whenever we were ready. they made laundry for us, organized tours, rented out bikes... and all of thos for such a fastantic price. the location is just the best place in hoi an, with a nice terrace to relax and enjoy some drinks or somegood food (very cheap also). the rooms and bathrooms are nice and cousy, but note that this is not a super hotel, so no tv we strongly re ommend this place if you are spending some days in hoi an!

A Wonderful Find!”
This is a true boutique hotel. There are three rooms, two upstairs and one "suite or apartment" downstairs. It is located right in the middle of the pedestrian only zone in central Hoi An mere seconds away from the famous covered bridge. Taxis need to drop you at the end of the street so be prepared for a very short walk to the hotel from the main road. At night the street is lit with lanterns and shops selling the traditional wares. There are countless restaurants, tailors, and anything you could need within walking distance. The hotelier operates a cafe' with wonderful food and drinks at the front of the house. It's perfectly comforting to relax in the seating area just inside the house or out front in the cafe' area and read or watch life go by. The apartment room does have a seating area with small kitchenette and a garden seating area outside. In late December it's cool and a bit damp in the room so we didn't sit out back or stay in the room long. No fault of the hotel, there just isn't a lot of sunlight to warm the concrete. It must be an amazing room to have in the warmer seasons though. That's definitely not a complaint, we truly enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again! The staff are very friendly and accommodated any request we had. You really should stay at this hotel! We stayed at another hotel in town and didn't like it anywhere near as much!

What a great find!”
We booked this hotel after reading the excellent reviews on Agoda and we were not disappointed. The location by the Japanese bridge in the old part of town is perfect as no motorised traffic allowed. We hired bicycles from the hotel for the day to explore the local area and cycle out to the beaches, an easy ride as it's quite flat countryside, we would highly recommend doing this. The staff at this hotel are all very friendly and helpful. We would definitely like to stay at La Tonnelle again.

lovely little place in great location.”
located inside the pedestrian-only old quarter, la tonnelle is a really sweet place to stay. i have to say that this was our very first 'homestay', so we have little with which to compare la tonnelle. the plus points are that it is extremely well located not only for the very pretty (if very touristy) old town, but also for the rest of what is a lovely, relaxed,, very pretty town. chung and her colleagues are extremely welcoming and friendly. my breakfast fruit bowl on both mornings was wonderful and i still miss it, a week later! the location is very quiet, the seating area outside is pretty and welcoming. we had some laundry done, and it was ready within 24 hours, at a very good cost. the other good point is the price of the rooms! the room we had upstairs was of medium size, with an ensuite shower-room. all fairly basic, but comfortable enough. there are small amounts of essential toiletries provided. it was the first time we had used a mosquito net - personally i found it rather romantic! there are gaps where insects can come in, but with a bit of common sense this need not be a problem. the only real downside is that there is something of an issue with a damp smell. it's a fairly old house (the clue is in the location!)so i guess it's only to be expected - and we have had damp issues in a 5* in the carribbean and in bali, so it's not unusual in tropical climes. the room windows were opened during the day to air the house as much as possible, and there's really not a lot that can be done without very major overhaul. so this is not a 'complaint', just an observation. for those on a budget, la tonnelle is just great, and i'm really pleased that we had the opportunity to stay there.

Small but cozy and tranquil lovely hotel :)”
The hotel called themselves a guest house, indeed, it is... You wont feel like living in a 5 star luxury hotel , yet you feel relaxing and comfortable just like your own house.. The hotel has special Hoi An taste, wooden floor, Hoi An decorations all over the place... A very nice location, just 1 mins away from the old town main street- Tran Phu... The hotel has its own cafeteria in their frontward where you can enjoy your Vietnamese coffee and observing the Hoi An morning activities in the morning, shouldnt miss that.. The staff are very helpful and nice, just ask them if you are not pretty sure where and what to do, you will get the right answers... I only found a few cons. You wont have your own TV, which you wont really need after long day walking around and just want to sleep straightaway. The hotel's wall is not soundproof, you actually may able to hear your neighbors. Overall, this is a great hotel to stay with :) :) :)

Authentic taste of life in Old Hoi An”
Enjoyed our apartment suite which comprised the bedroom and a sitting room. The hotel is a sympathetically restored house with a relaxed feel. Staff spoke French and English; they were very helpful and knowledgeable. La Tonnelle is located just inside the Old Town near the Japanese Bridge; this is handy because the Old Town is normally closed to cars.
