Did you find this review summary helpful?
It was great to stay next to Akarenka, as it made it convenient to visit major tourist spots, and the breakfast was fresh and delicious, so I had a good rest. The large public bath gave a brief sense of the hot spring atmosphere, which I enjoyed. The room was cozy, comfortable, and convenient, making it perfect for solo travelers. The only downside was that the hair dryer was very weak and struggling, making it hard to dry my hair. While there is a powerful hair dryer in the public bath, when I'm tired, I prefer to shower quickly in my room and dry my hair right away, so I think checking and replacing the facilities would make the hotel even better. It wasn't the latest style, but it was a warm hotel with an antique and homely feel.
This is a hotel where you should definitely stay at least one night in Hakodate. I have used it quite a few times. There are popular tourist spots within walking distance from the hotel, so I recommend it. I couldn't make a reservation for this trip, but when my return flight was canceled on the last flight, I was able to book a room that was suddenly available through Agoda. Since I returned on an early morning flight the next day, I didn't have time to enjoy my favorite breakfast, but they helped me by storing some frozen souvenirs that I had bought, which was a relief. The only downside is that there are no transportation options to the station when leaving early in the morning from this area. You have to either request a taxi or walk with heavy luggage to a somewhat distant station. Aside from that, you can enjoy the hot springs, have a nice breakfast, and sightseeing is convenient... so I can recommend it even for first-time visitors.
Booked a night nearing the start of GW, meaning that it was pretty expensive and choices were few and far between. Arrived after 15:00 and there was a short queue to check in. If you arrive early they have a cloak service to keep your bags at the lobby till you want to check in. There is also free coffee and hot cocoa from around 15:00 to around 19:00 (iirc) One of my travel mates had lost his passport on the way up to Hakodate (left it at Tokyo station by accident) and the lady checking us in used a translator to understand our situation better, and even asked if she could get the service center at Tokyo station to fax a photocopy up for check-in. The hotel is next door to the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses which has an interesting range of shops, and the ropeway is a 20 minute walk away. Location is quite a walk away from Hakodate station, so if you're heavy on bags you might want to take a taxi to the hotel. Should cost 1500 yen max for a small taxi, but I walked so I'm not sure myself. Room was neat and clean, with the two futons inside the cupboard and two beds tightly in the space between the tatami area and the landing/bathroom area. Loungewear and onsen towels were provided in the room. The hotel has a very rustic and calm vibe overall, and this extended to the large onsen on the top floor. It was clean and free from steam, making for a very pleasant experience. The outdoor area had a few small tubs and a larger pool. When you're in the hot water and the cold breeze hits it feels really really good. Powder room area attached to the onsen locker rooms have facial wash and milk/lotion. Outside the onsen there is a lounge area with free popsicles and ice cream, as well as vending machines for coffee, beer, and soft drinks. Overall really pleasant hotel, at around 16000 yen per person it is on the high side, but at it is not the most out of the way either.
I visited Hakodate for the first time, and La Vista Hakodate Bay was indeed a wonderful hotel. The room had character and style. Since I usually stay at business hotels, it was a nice splurge. There were three of us, and I set up the futon, but the room was spacious enough for us to sleep comfortably. I was fortunate to get a room with a great view of Mt. Hakodate. The open-air bath on the top floor, the 13th floor, was amazing. I ended up falling asleep and didn’t get to use it, but it seems like bathing while enjoying the night view would be fantastic. We had made a dinner reservation, so we didn't have any issues, but it seemed there were others who hadn’t reserved and a few couldn’t order their desired course, so I recommend making a reservation if you want to dine at the hotel. I thought the fresh sea urchin pasta served in the course was fantastic. The breakfast was seafood-focused, but there were also some Western options. The make-your-own seafood bowl featured seafood with excellent freshness, and I ended up going back for seconds. Additionally, there were many delicious dessert choices. Personally, I was very impressed by the numerous places to enjoy Misuzu coffee. It is also just a 15-minute trip to the Hakodate Ropeway, making it a great hotel for those wanting to enjoy the night view from Mt. Hakodate.

“First trip to Hakodate.”
I stayed for one night on my first trip to Hakodate. The breakfast buffet with seafood and made-to-order omelets was delicious. I was impressed by the seafood sashimi. However, I felt that the variety of grilled items was limited. The view from my room on the 11th floor, which was a corner room, was beautiful. The large public bath on the rooftop also offered a gorgeous nighttime view from the open-air bath, so I was quite satisfied. The semidouble room felt quite cramped when I stayed with two people, so I think I will choose a slightly larger room next time. I believe it could be due to the Obon holiday period, but the cleanliness of the room was nonexistent. The area around the TV was covered in dust (it didn't look like it had been wiped), and there was a thick layer of dust on the top side of the bed that stuck to my fingers when I traced it, so I wiped it down with a towel before relaxing. I am satisfied with everything else aside from cleaning, and I would like to stay again if the opportunity arises.
