Perfect location to explore Lake St Clair ”

This lodge is ideal for exploring all the walks from Lake St Clair (south end of Cradle Mountain National Park). Comfortable and clean. Breakfast was included which was great and other meals can be purchased at a reasonable price. Options are limited to pizza and burger style meals but cabins have kitchens so you can cook if you prefer. There’s no wifi and very limited mobile reception, be prepared to be off the grid here.

Steps away from the lake”

Location, friendly staff, cosy room.

This accommodation is situated just next to the visitor's center of Lake St. Clair. There was quite a number of cabins available. Although the lodge was situated in the park, the lodge was modern in design with magnetic key card access. This is one of the most cosy accommodation during the winter that I had stayed in, even the toilet wasn't that cold. The only problem is with the refrigerator lighting that came through its glass door and sleeping with that on was quite irritating. There was no wifi as expected. Parking is available and right next to the cabin itself. The reception had requested the restaurant to stay open as we informed that we would be having dinner there. Even the restaurant staff was very service oriented. Walks start from the visitors center and it was not too far from our cabin. Good base for walks at Lake St. Clair.

Wonderful experience visiting Lake St Clair”

We stayed at the Lake St Clair Lodge Wilderness Suite. The suite was cosy and had a fireplace, kitchenette and jacuzzi bath. The location of the lodge is very close to Lake St Clair so you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake. The Lake St Clair National Park Visitor Centre is also at the Lodge so you can easily purchase the park passes if you intend on walking around the Lake St Clair-Cradle Mountain National Park. There are many short walks which you can take and return to the Lodge within the same day. It is recommended to do some of these walks but do plan for the activity. As some of the suites are far away from parking areas you may need to carry your bags some distance. There is only one restaurant at the Lodge and it is at the Visitor Centre.

lovely hotel ”

Gorgeous hotel in the middle of Cradle mountain-lake st clair national park. House may look simple outside but its very nice inside. Well stocked kitchenette with the necessary pots, pans , knives, bowls and cutlery. The peeler in our room was not sharp and we gave up peeling the potatoes we bought. We enjoyed standing outside our house under the gorgeous starlit sky. May be quite expensive if you book during peak period.

Great location”

Top location for exploring beautiful Lake St Clair, as walks start from the lodge. Very friendly staff. Our garden view cabin was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated, with lake glimpses sitting on little back verandah. Price would be ok, as breakfast was included, hovever, looking at the buffet we decided to have our own provisions. There was nothing fresh (packaged fruit only, some wheat bix and pale scrambled eggs), not much choice or love in it. I told reception when checking out and they said the breakfast was from the menu today, with more options, but we gave it a miss as we had had our own already. They said it was hard to get fresh fruit every day, but other resorts manage well and apples keep fresh for long in the fridge ;)

Only a couple of things let it down”

The cabin accomodation was wonderful - the bed was super comfy, the room was new and well presented. It was tidy and clean. We especially like the double door entry into the cabin. We arrived really late and found an envelope waiting with instructions at the reception desk (it was closed for the night). We found our way to the cabin easily enough with the instructions, but to help us, the staff turned on the TV and in-room light in the cabin. It was really thoughtful! What let the cabin stay down was two things. 1. The kitchenette in c31 was very basic, hotel like. No toaster, microwave. We would have preferred a small kitchenette. 2. The food at the cafe lodge was horrible. As we only stayed one night, we only had breakfast there - we both ordered a big breakfast with some BBQ steamed buns. The steamed buns were microwaved - a telltale sign is when the dough casing is super hard and chewy. My husband's scrambled eggs big breakfast was basically chopped up fried eggs. Sausages were std super market quality, as with the hash brown and bacon. All in all, it really wasn't worth the $20-something bucks per meal (if not for the geographic remoteness of St Clair lake). If we had known food was this bad, and prepared this lazily, I would have happily eaten our pre-hard-boiled eggs and waited until we got to Campbelltown for the world's best toastie sandwich.

Awesome location and Accommodation”

We stayed for a night here. The cabins are terrific. Large rooms and the bed was super comfortable. Can't beat the location, right on Lake St Clair. The restaurant is great. Food menu is simple and reasonably priced. Although the staff looked as though really disliked their jobs. Shame really, as that was the only negative .... but we will get over it :-) ... Absolutely no hesitation in recommending Lake St Clair Lodge Cheers

N/A”

The cabin we booked was fantastic as well as the surrounds and the walks.

Our stay at Lake St Clair Lodge was great, but had we not shopped at a local Coles in Hobart before we arrived we would not have had anything to eat due to the restaurant being closed on the day we arrived without an explanation. When the restaurant opened on the second day they must sell more than burgers and chips. When booking a lodge as this one the dining experience must be part of the overall experience. Maps of the overall area should also be readily supplied.

Sooooo Disappointing - The new Fawlty Towers!”

Stayed here a couple of years ago had a great holiday. This time new staff, poorly trained, totally unaware, don't notice you need attention, food in the "fine dining' restaurant highly over priced, poorly cooked, badly presented. Some meals inedible had to send back - manager didn't care. 1 night EVERY table in the restaurant complained. Cleaning in the cabins disgusting. Toothpaste and soap residue not cleaned up, in-room spa bath not cleaned after use. We were so disappointed, after two nights we drove 250k to Peppers Cradle Mountain for a break EVEN THOUGH I WAS STILL PAYING at Lake St Clair. (See separate review for Peppers - absolutely fabulous!). When we returned the next day to Lake St Clair Lodge one towels no replaced, glasses not cleaned and WE HADN'T STAYED IN THE ROOM FOR 36 HOURS - DISGUSTING!

Great option in the area”

location, comfortable room, great attentive and flexible staff

This hotel is what you want out of a hotel in a national park having a range of accommodation to suit most tastes/budgets and walks/activities to suit most tastes/ages/abilities on the doorstep. The downside to its location is the park entrance fees that must be paid even if all you are doing is spending the night in the hotel and are not all that flexible/cheap if you are not planning a longer trip with multiple park stops. Others downsides are (1) that the hotel is still in the process of upgrade so not all of what we were expecting in our room as described on Agoda's site was in the room (e.g. a TV) but when we raised this albeit only after the Agoda description was verified we were "upgraded" to a room that better fitted that description (clearly we would not have been happy if such a room was not available), and (2) there is no available internet for guests although the hotel does have an internet service available for its own use/purposes. The room we had was new, modern and mostly (the outdoor furniture was not) comfortable - perhaps too much so for a lodge in a national park but having said that, it was lovely to come back to after a long arduous walk! As regards the negative comments we have seen about the hotel staff, our experience was the opposite. All staff we came across were professional, attentive and helpful to the extreme. We have absolutely no complaints in this regard. If you like nature/being in a national lodge environment, this hotel should suit you as it did us; we loved seeing what wildlife we did see, having walks/hikes all around us and being surrounded by the most amazing forest smells we've smelt for a longtime. For the price we paid, we thought it was good value for money, especially since we got what we booked and a little more in terms of access to cooking facilities.

Great location, not the best accomodation”

Lake St Clair is absolutely stunning but Lake St Clair Lodge has some areas to work on. The cabins are very expensive for what you get and the restaurant has some issues. The lovely staff were seemingly forced to push an extremely expensive menu on us but then relented and let us have the pizza and burgers. I think they should try to have some more affordable, family-friendly food available.

Amazing Location ! ”

We booked two studio cabins, one for the parents and one for my children. When we arrived we were amazed at the location, it's perfect ! But the cabins were a good 5 minute walk apart, which means one parents and one child had to stay in the cabin as I didn't want my kids so far away. The cabins are clean and have all the necessities you need, but are not identical despite paying the same price for them. One was bigger and more modern while the other was smaller and more dated. Otherwise the facilities such as the cafe and restaurant are great, pricey, but still great. I would go back for the location and the ferry service they run for lodge guests which takes you around the lake, which was amazing!

Rooms are high standard and very clean”

The rooms here are very well appointed and very clean. We booked a lake view room that didn’t really have much view of the lake but others offer great views. We did the shadow Lake circuit walk which we would recommend.. The Food and Beverage side of this accommodation did not match the room quality with food and service being just average and some really poor food handling practices observed. Overall though this is a great place to stay.

Lake St Clair Lodge”

World Heritage, a special part of Tassie. Pristine. The number of short and long walks in the area are amazing. The cabin accommodation was excellent. The meals were all very good given the circumstances the kitchen staff had to work under. There was not enough staff on in the restaurant and the 4 that were on when we were there for 2 days worked like Trojans trying cover off taking orders, cooking, bar tendering, cleaning up. They deserve an award. Management need a boot up the bum. $10 for a beer/cider is a rip off. It’s not like the place is in the middle of central Australia 1000s of is from its distributors. Breakfast is passable. The cruise on the lake is a misnomer (it’s a boat ride to one end of the lake to pick up hikers) and way overpriced at $70. However the sights you see on the lake are truly remarkable. We were there when it was unusually 30C - the restaurant was like a sauna so we ate outside.
