"Walking distance to MTR and easy access to food and shopping"
January 29, 2019
Voted the best Asian boutique hotel by TravelWeekly, this is a popular favorite because of its central location near SoHo. The Lan Kwai Fong Hotel @ Kau U Fong is close to Hong Kong's major shopping and sightseeing areas and is well connected to public transportation links such as the MTR, bus, tram, and ferry. Tourist hot spots nearby include the Man Mo Temple, Times Square, Possession Street, the Repulse Bay, and Stanley Market. The hotel has elaborately furnished deluxe rooms and five palatial harbor view suites. Attention to detail is obvious in the elaborate appearance of the entire hotel, right down to the bathrooms. Guests will truly have a comfortable and relaxing stay at Lan Kwai Fong Hotel @ Kau U Fong.

Return to familiar favorite”
I have stayed at Lan Kwai Fong Hotel three times, both on family and business trips, and I plan to book it in the future. It is a reasonably priced and service-minded place in a central location. (More than half of my meetings were within easy walking distance.) Although it is in the Central district, it is sheltered from heavy traffic and hectic crowds but close enough to walk to all main destinations, and to the Metro and airport express train stations. The antique shopping district begins immediately behind the hotel and there are plenty of restaurants and bars. (Despite the name, this hotel is not in "Lan Kwai Fung", which is a sort of Alcohol Alley about a ten-minute walk away). It takes about 15 minutes to wak to the airport express trains, taking Wellington Street to the pedestrian bridge and following it to an escalator in the IFC Mall. The train takes 25 minutes to or from the airport. One very nice feature of Lan Kwai Fong Hotel is a self-service lounge on the fourth floor, partly enclosed and partly open, with free coffee, tea and Wi-Fi. (Internet in the rooms is not free.) Pleasant place to work. I had some problems connecting to Wi-Fi in the lounge, which the staff tried to be helpful about, but with mixed results. Rooms are small, because it's Hong Kong. Each floor has one "mountain view" room, which is what you might get upgraded to, but in my opinion it's not worth paying extra as the rooms are the same size. If you have trouble walking on steep streets and sidewalks with steps in them, you will probably want to stay somewhere else, unfortunately. I recommend the French bistro in Pak Tsz Lane Park, which is in a hidden courtyard between Aberdeen, Gage, Peel and Hollywood.
Lovely hotel full of Asian touch”
The LKF @ Kau U Fong Hotel is a jewel of a hotel, in particular in its price market. Nicely appointed rooms with loads of traditional Asian flair adding a touch of romanticism to the modern facilities. Centrally located right around the corner from Wellington and a step away from Soho, it can easily be reached by foot from Sheung Wan MTR station and is still in comfortable reach from Central and all its gorgeous shopping. The actual Lan Kwai Fong area is also just a stroll afar so it is hard to figure what kind of traveller wouldn't find its fill at this hotel. Sole constraint for business travelers is lack of w working desk du to the notoriously small Hong Kong room sizes and the lack of free internet services is a bit annoying, more so as it is impossible to get signal for PCCW in the rooms. Overall nevertheless a great stay!
A Pleasant Surprise”
I’ve lived in Hong Kong for several years and am quite familiar with the area and local hotels. I was pleasantly surprised by the Lan Kwai Fong @ Kau U Fong Hotel. It is a new, small boutique hotel. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The location is not right in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong, but the walk to most restaurants and shops is only about five minutes (some roads are steep, but taxis are also readily available). The breakfast buffet had a full range of foods, although this was not included in the price of the hotel. Coffee shops are within walking distance. They have a small roof-top bar which is really cute and relaxing especially if the weather is nice. The room size and bathroom are a bit small, but quaint, comfortable and clean. Most hotels in Hong Kong are limited in space, so this is to be expected. I would definitely stay in this hotel again, should I ever need accommodations or have visitors in Hong Kong.
Beautiful Rooms and Bathrooms in a Great location”
stayed two nights at the end of july. this is my favorite area of hong kong - walking distance to the underground, to the mid level escalators, everything is very easy and accessible from the hotel. very well priced for the quality of the rooms and service provided (and location) for hong kong. the staff was extremely nice. i arrived very early in the morning - 7:30 am and they rushed to prepare a room for early check in by 10 am (very nice as they are not obligated to have a room ready before noon). so many people pick this hotel by mistake, however, possibly thinking it is the lkf (lan kwai fong) hotel in lan kwai fong (its not the same one) so they really need to change the name or the designation. very good choice of hotel would recommend to any type of traveler.
Frequent business traveler to this hotel”
I think this is my fourth visit to Lan Kwai Fong over the last 12 months or less. (The hotel is not in Lan Kwai Fong, despite the name, and that's a good thing.) Central, good price for Hong Kong, usually not full, small but comfortable rooms, assiduous service, hearty buffet breakfast (not included -- HKD 165, closes at 10:30), close to Cosco Tower in Central HK, three or four blocks from Metro, 20 minute walk from Airport Express train station. Restaurants, noodle joints, bars, antique shops, touristic charm all in walking distance. Steep street not so good if you have any trouble walking.
Nice Hotel excellent service and location!”
we don't spend much time in the room when we are in hong kong so hate to throw a lot of money away on simply a bed. hotel room was very clean albeit small (thats hong kong unless you want to spend more than a night) lkf kau u fong was perfect for the three of us. staff went out of their way for us all we had to do was ask politely. one minor irritant was the very loud air conditioner we had to put up with the noise all night but we endured. overall very good value and we loved the location, hk mtr 5 minute walk, and public transport makes hk easy to get around. excellent nightlife and dining we love hong kong! we will stay here again as long as we can continue to get the room for less than us per night. we consider it a prime location for not so much money.
A truly boutique hotel"”
being a first timer visitor to hong kong, i was quite skeptical on what kind of boutique hotel would lan kwai fong hotel would be. the toilet was clean with all the amenities and the high water pressure for the shower was a welcome comfort in december weather. i had a truly enjoyable 3 nights stay at the hotel. a walking distant to the mtr station & to main shopping area on the island
we loved the location of this hotel. our room was tiny, which is generally to be expected in hk and we learnt the hard way to direct taxis to 'kau u fong' as opposed to lan kwai fong at kau u fong. we thought this hotel was fantastic value. the bed was also very comfortable.
The Best in Hong Kong”
This hotel provides a very friendly relaxed atmosphere. From the time you check-in until you check-out, your experience will be totally stress free. The staff is very professional and courteous, they’re willing to assist whenever requested, no detail seems too small, no request too large. I highly recommend Lan Kwai Fong to any and all travelers going to Hong Kong
Lovely Hotel with excellent location”
The location is 5 minutes walk from the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry terminal, approximatly 15 minutes walk from the Lan Kwai Fong area. Easily access to everywhere, the staff were friendly, and the rooms were so nicely decorated with chinese furniture, especially their toilets. The price we paid for a standard room was higher than other hotels,so we were expecting bigger rooms, luckily they upgraded us to the deluxe room, because i managed to peek into a standard room...it was tiny.
Gracious and Helpful”
Very comfortable stay with a beautiful view! I felt like I was really in Hong Kong and not just another standard western hotel room. The touches of Chinese design and decor really impacted me positively. I would recommed the Lan Kwai Fong to anyone ~ the location and exceedingly helpful staff made my visit most enjoyable.
Would be my first pick on any return to Hong Kong”
We had a wonderful stay in Hong Kong primarily due to our selection of this hotel. While it would certainly be a very nice travelers hotel no matter where its location, being within a 5 to 10 minute walk of Hollywood Rd., Soho, Mid-Level escalators, Cat Street, Queen Street and several local outdoor markets was the icing on the cake. The Macao ferry, local piers and Central Bus station were also no more than 15 minutes away. I can no longer walk the miles that I once could but the location of the Lan Kwai Fong made that less of an issue than it could have been. I would absolutely stay there should we ever return to Hong Kong.
New go to hotel”
I go to HK for business pretty regularly, once every 2 weeks or so. I try to economize just because I think its good practice even though I'm on a expense account. In general, hotels in HK Island, particularly those in Central are pretty terrible. They're either really expensive or really tiny and crappy (e.g. Bishop Lei or Central Park Hotel). Nothing really nice, practical, functional, and reasonable. Slightly outside of Lan Kwai Fong, which is good so you're not stuck in traffic getting to/from the hotel, but only a really short walk away. Ok, the actual street its on is dead, but literally a 50 meter walk uphill and there are some nice stores/restaurants. The rooms are nicely decorated in a modern Chinese style, and feel big (relative for HK). All this for $150, can't really be beat. Bottom Line: this is my new go to hotel.
Boutique with a Classic touch”
Nice boutique hotel with Asian bamboo and classic Chinese design elements in rooms. Nicely appointed rooms with quality bathrooms, LCD TV and iPod/iPhone docking station. Close to Soho & Lan Kwai Fong as well as all the Central shopping venues places it at a great location. Rooms small but on par with Hong Kong standards, thus good value for money.
Excellent location in Central”
This is an excellent hotel in terms of location - a short walk to Central and the famous Lan Kwai Fong bar streets and a very short walk to Sheung Wan MTR station. Great service at this boutique hotel with all the basics you need - the rooms are small (once upgraded to a executive corner suite which was decent in size but still small) but in Hong Kong, I don't see the point of spending a lot of time in your hotel with so much to do, from eating, shopping and all the different leisure activities to do. I stay here mainly for business and it's more than sufficient to cater for what I need - walking distance to the office with easy access to anywhere you need to be whether by taxi or the MTR. You would be hard pressed to find a hotel with such a great location and at very good prices in this part of town.
Great Location and Small Rooms”
We took the Airport Express to Hong Kong station and paid HKD50 for a cab to the hotel, advisable not to try to walk there if you are not familiar with the location. After you settle in, you will be able to walk to Central MTR (steep 1 minute walk + a flight of stairs + 8-10 minutes flat straight road)and Lan Kwai Fong is a slightly steep uphill walk of about 5-8 minutes. There is also a 7-11 1 minute away. It is very near to the SOHO area and antique street. Rooms are very small, but it is expected of most hong kong hotels especially when it is located at such a central area. It has everything and is very nicely decorated, suitable for people who want the oriental themed rooms rather than traditional hotel room environment. There is a nice semi open air lounge for customers to hang out and use the free wifi on the 4th floor. Free coffee, an assortment of teas and mineral water is also available on that floor at certain hours.
Centrally located and great staff”
We have a 10-month old daughter, and the hotel provided the cot. It fit beside the bed, not a lot of space in the room but for the location it's a great hotel. As we spent most of the time out and about. Only 5 minute walk to Soho and 10 mins to the ferry terminal or airport train station. 2 minute walk to the local MTR (train) if you're doing local transport. Very handy. However it's not actually in Lan Kwai Fong... it's in Sheung Wan. We already knew this but I'm sure it trips a few people... And rooms are beautifully done, Asian theming... Shower/bathrooms are a bit small, my husband couldn't fit under the shower, but for 2 night... who cares really...!
Lan Kwai Fong Revisited - 2009”
No hotel is ideal for everyone; if one provides everything it is probably too expensive or opulent. The Lan Kwai Fong does not endeavour to meet everyone's needs but it does most. Its major advantage is its Central location which facilitates access to many centres of interest and transport hubs. I have always considered it an understated hotel, one which one might not give a second look but, once experienced, it is hard to fault or better. It is friendly and provides both business people and those on holiday an above average, well priced, comfortable place to stay whether it be long or short term. I shall certainly return.
Fabulous decor and ambience in your private room”
While rooms are small, this boutique hotel offers a wonderful experience. The "feel", feng shui, decor and general beauty of the rooms are terrific. They know how to capitalize upon the limited space. The property is located in an ideal spot, right in Lan Kwai Fong which contains numerous restaurants, bars, and shops. Additionally, there is an abundance of local life on the surrounding streets. Breeze, the 4th floor cafe, is a terrific spot for morning coffee in the outdoors (but covered, for those rainy days).
Great value for a stunning view”
Friendly staff, great hotel for those that enjoy boutique type hotels. We booked the city view room and had a fantastic view on the 27th floor, facing Kowloon, with a window seat and all. Very clean, small but comfortable and well designed considering the space. Great location - walking distance to Soho, Lan Kwai Fong and even Airport Express (Central) station if need be.
