Serene retreat for the world weary”
Peaceful riverside location with high quality staff and excellent food. Highly recommended for relaxation and/or taking part in nearby activities - elephant encounters, hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming in the river, etc. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Be prepared for hot and humid conditions in the hot season, as there are only ceiling fans and no AC. A couple extra floor fans would have made the temperatures when we were there in late April more bearable.
Elephants ! Trumpeting from across the river ! The magical Nom Khan swirling past. Butterflies, beautiful plants, serenity and solitude and all only 15 kms from the most beautiful town in Asia. Lovely staff. Highly recommended.
Exceptional experience! Quiet. Right on the river. ”
The view from all of the bungalows is of the slow moving river and very peaceful. The staff were very polite and helpful and all from the local village. The food was fresh and very tasty. And the homemade Ice-cream! Absolutely yummy. I highly recommend Lao Spirit Resort if you are looking for a peaceful, quiet place to stay away from all of the noise of a big city. The 15 minute walk to the Elephant village is worth the walk. $10 entry fee. Thank you Channy for all of your help.
Beautiful, magical, retreat about a half hour from town”
I want to review Lao Spirit while I'm still here, under its languorous spell, but I'm so relaxed it's hard to make myself do anything. I'm sitting on our veranda overlooking the river. Clouds are drifting across the mountains, wind chimes are tingling in a soft breeze, local fishermen are casting their nets off of long boats. We just finished an abundant, delicious lunch overlooking this same view, which we meandered to along gently curving paths. Others have spoken about the luxurious outdoor showers, one of many enchantments to be found here. The air is soft, the service is generous and attentive. We took a wonderful guided trek to villages yesterday, rode and bathed elephants the day before. That this resort is half an hour from Luang Prabang defies the imagination. Come here if you want some time out of time. We're already sad to be leaving.
Remote Retreat for Relaxing”
Amazing experience, wish I could have stayed longer. Great location for doing nothing but reading and resting. Comfy bed, no air-con wasn't an issue. Amazing out-door shower, and bath tub. Not for the bug-phobic. This is not a "resort" and more of a "retreat." We were there in low season and barely saw any other people - it was awesome. Great sun-rises. Watched the elephants bathe almost every day. The owner will coordinate outings, hikes, boat-rides, etc. We didn't take advantage of any of those. It is a journey to GET here. It is NOT convenient to go into and out-of Luang Prabang. We stayed one night in LP on either side of our stay here. Restaurant was good/decent, but I would definitely tire of the options during a longer stay. I would stay here again.
After the hustle and bustle of Luang Prabang coming to these individual villas on the river is rejuvenating. Gracious hosts, exquisite food and comfortable villas with quirky outside/inside bathrooms. Spend your days swimming in the river and watching the buffalo and elephants. Not for the infirm with lots of stairs and no a/c for the hot May days.
Close by LP and yet far away from the buzz”
Very friendly reception by Jenny. Large rooms and outside showers with hot water. Lovely balcony overlooking the Khan river. Lots of electricity plugs to load your various batteries. Signage is absent, so one may get lost in the resort. The food is good, but not matching LP cuisine. Trek & canoe is a great 5 hours experience.
we stayed here after a homestay to get a bit of relaxation although if you want to do trekking it is also an ideal place.the room are nice and spacious and the staff are lovely. ken the waiter done everything he could to make our stay plesant. after a day trekking or relaxing you can unwind with a drink and a meal in the hotel resturant although the selction at the bar is somewhat limited. i was amazed hat the hotel prices were as cheap as they were for food and drink as there is nothing close by to go to. the elephant camp is only 10 minutes from lao spirit and the nearest village is 25 minute walk. if like me you wanted relaxation every villa has a large balcony but the only downside is that it dosen't get the sun. we spent most days relaxing in the outside area of the resturant where the sun shone all day. nice resort, lovely staff and well priced
GREAT PLACE FOR RETREAT”
It is resort in the jungle and giving you the true feeling of relaxation and retreat. The facilities and the restaurant are very nice. The staff are very helpful.
We really appreciate the quiet and beauty of staying next to the river at Lao Spirit. The staff was very friendly and nice, and helped us plan our itineraries and make arrangements. They strike a good balance between being very professional and also being very warm and personable. We also really liked the food. Lao Spirit was very peaceful and tranquil, and we hope we have the chance to return there sometime.
Splendid peace and quiet”
My wife and I chose this hotel for its serenity and to some extent secluded location - however it is only about about 20 minutes into town. We really loved this hotel, although hotel isn't quite true. Lao Spirit is much more than a hotel. You will be able to unwind and truly relax, especially if you stay more than a few days. We occupied bungalow 2 with super verandah overlooking the river and views of elephants. Rustic and simple but completely matching our needs. The restaurant served fresh and tasty food. All staff were friendly. The night sky was dazzling! Definitely recommended to stay at Lao Spirit.
If you like nature and want to disconnect from your daily life it’s the perfect place. The dihave WiFi is you get home sick! We loved the place and the staff especially Chaini the Manager are amazing.
The Lao Spirit is a wonderful resort about 25 min from Luang Prabang. Each cottage has a veranda across the front offering view of the river. We watched elephants bathing in the morning, kayaked down the river, had a massage on our veranda in the afternoon and enjoyed a starry sky at night. Super private and quiet! The food in the restaurant was excellent and the staff super attentive.
We loved our stay at the Lao Spirit Resort and are disappointed we didn't stay longer. Be aware that this is not resort with all the "bells and whistles" but actually a spiritual retreat away from the crowds. Waking up and watching the fog lift from the mountains and then watching the elephants play and bath was worth the remote location. I look forward to visiting again at some point.
The bungalows are perched up above the river. Could sit on the balcony all day watching the action - including elephants from local Village being washed. Food seemed good, but I did get a dose of stomach problems after my first dinner. Puzzled, because everything seemed clean and fresh. Attention to detail was incredible in all respects. Only half an hour from Luang Prabang, but a world away amongst the trees.
Beautiful and unique resort with fantastic view of the Khan river with the elefants”
A fantastic and quiet bungalows in the nature , half an hour away of the city. The staff were very nice to us. You can take an easy trek to the near village. You have an assured view point of the elephants bathing in the river every morning and afternoon. The food is very good. We also had a professional Thai massage.
It was better than I had expected, even after reading the reviews. The quality and range of food was excellent. The service was very good. The setting, views and design of the rooms was amazing. Loved the outdoor shower. Plenty of activities available and everyone was friendly and happy.
All quiet at the river bank”
We only stayed one night, during our Elephant Park Experience; this should have been longer! The lodges are splendid, all with a beautiful river view. The management had a very problem solving attitude concerning a booking discussion, and gave proof of the best service attitude possible. All staff members were friendly and helpful. So, we regretted to have booked only for one night in this resort, and advice you to stay at least a few days here.
Excellent service and relaxed atmosphere”
Before arriving I had an extensive email correspondence with the manager about activities during our stay and lodging request (calm bungalow). Rapid and clear responses. Once arriving we were well received and had three very nice days. It worked out very well with our child, at the time 9 months. We could even have nice calm dinners as the staff happily took care of the child while eating. We took part in two well-arranged outings: one combined hike and kayaking (without the child), and a second combined village visit, boating and Taed Sae. Both are recommended.
Peaceful haven - very restful”
Located 30-40 minutes away from the town of Luang Prabang, Lao Spirit Resort is a great place to stay for those who have already seen most of Luang Prabang, and wish to enjoy a peaceful respite in the jungle. The architecture of the bungalows is beautiful, and each has a private deck facing out to the river - suitable for those long afternoons spent reading or doing nothing. Don't expect any wifi reception in the bungalows though - you have to go to the reception area itself for that, or a certain part of the restaurant. The on-site restaurant is pretty good, and offers a variety of Lao favourites and a few Thai-inspired dishes at reasonable prices. The reception even provides yoga mats upon request!
