Great hotel, Friendly owner”

Michael, the owner, is really helpful and friendly.

vang vieng is more (in)famous for the tubing and wild drinking, and not being interested in those, i stayed in vang vieng for one night as a stopover on the way to luang prabang, thinking there nothing else to do. michael, the owner of laos haven hotel, wants to correct that perception of vang vieng. he runs a family-friendly hotel and is keen to show to his guests what else there is to do in this sleepy town - lots of beautiful limestone caves and tours. if you ask him nicely enough, he might lend you one of his bicycles and give you directions to the caves - this way you can save yourself a little money instead of buying an overpriced tour. i left the next morning at 7; while dine-in breakfast was included in the hotel fee, he offered to prepare a packed breakfast of sandwiches for our road trip. when he found out that my travel partner was gluten-intolerant, he offered to prepare us fried noodles instead. i suspect he had the time to do this since it was the low season and travellers were few, but i appreciated the gesture. i never got to explore vang vieng because we arrived in the evening and left early next morning, but because of michael's recommendations of what to see and do, i think i may return. and i will once again stay at the laos haven hotel.

Best value for money in Laos”

Awesome food, exceptional hospitality

We booked this hotel in Vang Vieng to keep costs down. Based on the price of our room we were a little skeptical but with all of the positive reviews we read we went in thinking it would be at least tolerable for backpacking. Were we ever suprised. From the moment we arrived until we departed we were offered the best hospitality we received in an entire month of travelling Burma, Laos and Thailand. really know how to take care of their guests. We arrived and were quickly checked in to our bright room with a clean bathroom. The shower has a hot water heater so be careful with the length of your showers, but that's not unusual for this area. Once we settled in, we came back downstairs for a seat in the restaurant. After our first lunch we decided that we wouldn't need to go searching for somewhere better. Honestly, the food is that good here. We ate at a number of different restaurants in Luang Prabang before making it south to Vang Vieng and the traditional Laotion food on offer here is simply top notch. The Tom Yam soup on order here is what it is supposed to taste like. You can use it as a barometer. Arranging day trips and transportation was easy and all prices were exceptionally fair. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we got where we were going and did what we wanted to do, taking all the worrying away from us. Again, we travelled Southeast Asia for a little more than a month and Laos Haven is home to some of the best food and by far the best hospitality of any of the more than 15 different spots that we stayed in along the way. Thanks for everything Book it!

I ended up staying longer than expected! ”

Clean, hospitable, and friendly

This is an overdue review! I wanted to write about my stay here at the end of October. I loved it so much I came back for another stay after my trip to Luang Prabang when I was passing though again. The hotel from the outside looks very clean and modern. Don't be scared away because the prices are very reasonable! The hotel is family owned by Michael and Marcus from Singapore! Both are extremely friendly, hospitable, and will go far to make sure your stay in enjoyable. Michael has some interesting stories to tell. I enjoyed talking to him. He really reminded me like an uncle of mine! Very intelligent. I respect him a lot for achieving his goal of building Lao Haven despite some past adversity. Ask and they can whip up some delicious food for you for a reasonable price. Their Thai food is especially delicious. Marcus was a very cool guy! He sings regularly at Gary's Irish Pub about 1-2 blocks away and is very talented. One day as I was randomly wandering around and ran into him and his visiting cousins from Singapore. They invited me out with them that night and the following day. As a solo traveler, I really appreciated such friendliness. I got to meet a lot of his local friends and experienced a different side of Vang Vieng that the flyby backpackers miss. I want to thank him and his father for welcoming me into their family and lives while I was there.

Great Owner, quiet area, great place!”

The owner Michael is great, free wifi, good breakfast!

Stayed for 3 nights (May 2013), firstly, the owner Michael from Singapore is the best hotel/guesthouse owner we have met on our travels so far, he's such a nice man, he is extremely helpful, always wanting to help and tell us things, we booked bus to Vientiane and the day Eco trip through this place and all was perfect and without a hitch. Very well priced too. I had the mis fortune of losing my wallet whilst in Vang Vieng, again Michael was really helpful and allowed me use of his laptop to get hold of the numbers for my banks to cancel my cards, I can't speak highly enough of him! The food was good and a choice of eggs, meats, bread for brekkie included was great! The rooms are very clean, and bathrooms equally clean, the whole property is very well maintained, we had a second floor room and all was great, the rooms are basic and as I discussed with Michael that's all you need, bed, air con, fridge, TV, all the essentials, after all your not paying 100's for a 5 star palace! I would 100% recommend and 100% return to Laos Haven, don't hesitate! Thanks again Michael (and Family) for a great stay in Vang Vieng!

Love this place”

Clean, Affordable, Friendly

There aren't enough words in any language to justly explain how wonderful our stay at this hotel was. We were looking for a simple place to spend the night on our way to Luang Prabang and chose Laos Haven. What we found was a delightful and very clean, yet affordable, hotel that even had a cheap room for our driver. We got to know Michael and Su, the couple of run this place, and fell in love with their four-legged children - the Siamese kitties. We went on to Luang Prabang and decided to cut our trip short so we could return to Vang Vieng to spend more time with Michael, Su and the cats. Best decision ever. Michael and Su also run a little restaurant next to the hotel, where Su cooks up a storm and serves the best meals in town. There's no doubt that I'll be back much more often (since I do work and live in Laos now) to my little Laos Haven.

Staff, location, price

**same review - we ended up staying longer than intended** If you are visiting Vang Vieng and value friendly hotel staff as we do then do not bother staying any where else! We didn'd end up staying in one hotel in town as the guy was particularly unhelpul so we found Marcus and Michael at the Laos Haven who were incredibly friendly and accommodating which we feel really makes a stay so much more enjoyable!! The rooms are large, have everything you need, the breakfast is superb and will fill you up for hours, the washing is the best we've had done anywhere in Asia and the price is incredibly reasonable. Great advice was also on hand to local attractions. We also booked through a few day trips with the hotel who use Happy Tours, again a great selection by the hotel as these guys were extremely helpful! Also make sure you check out Marcus singing at the Irish bar on Mon/Weds/fri!!!

Unbelievable stay”

Staff, food, value.... Everything

We had a wonderful stay at the Laos Haven Hotel. The room was simple yet very clean and well maintained. All the usual modcons. Location was good, a short walk to all the main attractions and bars but nicely set back from the raucous party once you're finished. However, the hotel is set apart from others by its magnificent owner and staff who go beyond the call of duty. Be prepared for a cracking chat with Michael, who is a fountain of knowledge and will help you no end. Make sure you eat in the restaurant as well, which is lovely. The food is unbelievable and cheaper than elsewhere in town. We don't usually like eating in the hotel we're staying at because we want to get out and about, but this is really worth it. Full marks, couldn't recommend any more highly. Would return in a heartbeat if we were ever back in Vang Vieng.

You have to stay here in Vang Vieng”

Location, Food, Hotel Owners

This hotel is owned by a lovely couple, and their food is the best around Vang Vieng. Food may be slightly pricer, but they have the best food in Vang Vieng. We almost had all our meals while staying in the hotel. Location is away from the rowdy crowd, and quiet enough for proper night rest. We booked our hot air balloon trip for this lovely couple, and they went all out to ensure that we make it for the trip, despite the operators telling us that we are unable to go for the hot air balloon ride. Despite other places are offering cheaper bus tickets, we still book ours from them, and true enough, the bus ride was comfy. Hotel room is veryyyy clean. The only downside is the internet access, which i believe is the same as other hotels in Vang Vieng, hence, do not fault them on this. You have to stay here when you're in Vang Vieng.

Location, Friendly Owners, Food

I stayed here for 4 nights in November 2014 and I greatly enjoyed my stay. Michael, the owner and his wife were extremely friendly and welcoming and I enjoyed sharing some beers with Michael while eating his wife's delicious Thai green curry. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are spacious. It is located about 3-5 minutes from the main part of town so it's very quiet at night time. Hot Air balloons launch right across the street at sunrise and sunset and they are very beautiful to look at while lounging on the swinging benches located on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Vang Vieng is a beautiful place and the views of the mountains that surround this small town are unforgettable. I would love to return and stay at Laos Haven Hotel one day soon.

A haven indeed”

Friendly staff, large & clean rooms, quiet surroundings

We booked for a 2-nights stay at this hotel & it turned out to be a very wise decision. First of all, it was value for money considering the size & condition of our room. Vang Vieng really is a beautiful place surrounded by mountains & there's a small swing outside our room where we can just sit down & enjoy the view. A good enough breakfast consisting of bread, eggs (made to order), some fruits & a choice of coffee & tea. Strategically located at a quiet area but within walking distance of the city area. The owner Michael who happens to be from the same country as us, was really friendly & helpful. He recommended us an alternative route to the blue lagoon which cuts a lot of our travelling time. He even made better suggestions to our planned itinerary & shared his experiences in running the hotel business. There was another friendly lady who works there as well, though we didn't get to talk to her as much. And if you're a cat person, you may even be greeted by a pair of rather shy, but really adorable siamese cats. In all, I highly recommend this hotel should you decide to pay Vang Vieng a visit :)

Lovely staff who went above and beyond!”

The staff and service, the good breakfast and its quiet location (not far from town centre but just out).

I had an enjoyable stay at the Laos Haven Hotel. The staff were great and Michael was always up for a chat, I found him to be a very interesting and genuine person. He booked all my tours whilst in Vang Vieng and even woke up early (approx. 5am) to make sure I had no problems when I did the hot air ballooning at sunrise. Also breakfast was great and made fresh as per your specifications. The room was comfortable, although, the bed was a little hard but this is to be expected in Asia. I had a slight issue with ants in my bathroom, this didn't worry me as coming from northern Australia, I am aware how they are attracted to any place with water during wet season. I spoke to Michael and he came up to my room immediately and laid ant bait which, worked a treat. I enjoyed my time in Vang Vieng and thank the staff of Laos Haven Hotel for making my stay so pleasant.

at first arriving at the laos haven you'll be greeted by a more than warm welcome by the staff. if you're lucky (and you'll most likely be) you'll be greeted by the owner, michael. if you care about a quiet atmosphere, and want to escape the constant party of vang vieng then this is a brilliant, yet affordable hotel option for you. breakfast is served until 10:30am which is great if you want to wake up just a bit later. it is also quite good and a solid value. we certainly recommend this place and look forward to visiting the exact location again when we travel into laos in the future.

Really loved our stay at Laos haven! The staff are the two nicest people we've met on our trip would do anything to help you! Hotel is a small walk from centre of vang vieng (5/7mins) but it meant the noise wasn't too loud at night! The breakfast was included and was mainly eggs with bread but was sufficient! The only thing I didn't like was the beds were a bid on the hard side but I'm only nitpicking. Would definitely recommend to a friend and if I ever return to vang vieng I will be staying here!

The family that runs it

This hotel is a few minutes walk from the main streets in Vang Vieng. This means you do not get any noise. I had the best sleep of my travels here (been travelling for 6weeks). The son of the owner who works there is fab. He gave us so much information about what to do in Vang Vieng. He helped organise a tuk tuk to the blue lagoon, he was also happy to book us tours and give us any advice we needed about the area. The breakfast is very good - baguette, eggs, sausage and coffee/juice each morning. We actually ate our main meals here most nights as the food is very nice. You were always greeted with a friendly smile by the owner and his family. The rooms are fairly basic, but a good size with air con. The tv channels are good -showed all premier league matches live! Definitely recommend this place.

This is a great value hotel with great hosts”

Clean and tidy, located just out of the heart of town. Homely, caring hosts.

In all of our travels in Asia we would have to say our stay was one of the most memorable. To start with we had mechanical problems with our motorcycle in the mountains out of Vang Vieng and when we finally arrived at the hotel our host organised everything for the bike while we showered and went out to dinner. The next morning he had transport back to the bike organised and by mid morning we were all sorted. You can't get better than that. Sue is a Thai lady and better Thai food you won't find anywhere in Asia including Thailand. Michael is multi lingual and is happy to advise the best activities around the area and any pitfalls you might encounter. Put simply we had a great time in Vang Vieng largely due to our hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them. You won't do better.
