Friendly boss, nice decor, great location”

Chillax backyard, Security, Art wall paintings

It was a great experience for us to stay with Layang Layang for a night. The location is superb, it's located one street parallel to the famous Jonker Walk and few blocks away from the riverside. Boss is an artist, owns a gallery nearby (have a tour to see how talented is William) and he painted all the wall paintings in the guest house all by himself. Bike rental available for RM10 for a day(highly recommended to bike around the retro Melacca) Layang layang is relatively new, has a windy backyard where you can chill at night while star gazing. Security is maximised with double entrance lock. Room is clean. Staff is attentive and friendly. The only cons is that the room has thin walls so it isn't really soundproofing. Anyhow still, great value for money.

        Good getaway with girlfriends”

It was a really fun experience staying over at Layang Layang. This is the first time I am staying at a Guest House. I have read through quite a number of review to ensure that Layang Layang is a OK-ish place and found that most of the review is quite good. Not disappointed at all, Me and my girl friend took the standard room since is only 1 night. Really basic room (Standard Room) with only 1 King Bed,Side Table and Aircon inside. Toilets and bathroom are combine and throughout my stay I dont have to wait for my turn. Layang Layang receptionist are really friendly by showing us around and explaining the facilities which are included. The only 1 thing we were not happy is that, we were wide awake at 9.00am when there is loud walking sound on the 1st floor and it lasted for hours. Later we realise that the sound was from the male housekeeping attendants. 1 advice, try to walk softly and definitely NOT like a Gorilla which is out for a food hunt. Beside that, It is really a fun place to stay.

3 nights stay at Layang Layang”

The house itself is very pretty and it offers terrific value for this type of structure in Melaka. I had a private room looking on the street and honestly I was not disturbed by anyone or anything during the night, the street is very quiet both during the day and during the night. I can't talk about the soundproofing of the walls because I was one of the very few guests at Layang Layang when I was there and nobody else was staying close to my room. Unfortunately, there's no breakfast included but since the location is so central you can easily get a roti canai for 2 ringgit 200 m away, so that's not a big deal. The staff was well mannered and they showed me all the facilities when I came in but nobody was really helpful in giving me tips of things to do and restaurants where to go. Luckily we have Google, but it would have been nice to hear the preferences of a local. I still think that the place is great and I totally recommend it!

        Great location and Pleasant Stay”

great location, clean rooms, nice shared bathrooms

This is a good choice for location as its just one street away from Jonkers. All the Malacca town attractions are within walking distance from Layang Layang. The staff are friendly and helpful and will help you out whenever they can. The room is clean and the bedding and aircon very comfy. Just be aware that you can hear the call to prayer from the local mosque late at night and early in the morning. Also, if your room is at ground level the sound from people walking around or moving things around on the level above is very clear. Remember also to check if your room window can be shut if it has one.

        Charming guesthouse”

Strategic location, great staff, spacious room

I really recommend Layang Layang Guest House due to their staff and strategic location. Their staff is very friendly, attentive, and helpful. I forgot her name but she genuinely cared for us when our taxi hadn't come while it was near our bus schedule. She even looked as relieved as we were when the taxi came. Even their cleaning staff are nice and friendly. The location is superb as it is near the famous Red Square, Jonker Street and many eateries. The room is okay but you have to be prepared for squeaky floor if you stay on 2nd floor. No wonder as it is a renovated old building. They also provide sufficient bathrooms so you do not need to wait long for your turn. However, please do note that the bathrooms can be very warm due to their lack of ventilation.

        Location, Staff Performance, Cleanliness

Arrived in Melaka during Chinese New Year Celebrations. We were a little burned out after 3 days in Kuala Lampur, and were questioning our decision to visit Malaysia. Within a day the quality of the Guest House and the warm and helpfulness of the staff completely changed our minds. Our next trip here, and there WILL be a next, will dodge K.L. and head straight for Layang Layang and the old quarter of Melaka. Can't say enough positives about this sweet little spot.

        location, comfort, staffs

We have a great stay at Layang Layang Guest House. The staffs are eager to help you. The room is comfortable and clean. The bathrooms are shared but no problem. The second floor is made by wood, so you will hear footsteps of other guests if they have a heavy walk.

        Great location, comfortable bed”

        Location, Bed, Staff

The location of Layang-layang is very strategic, very near to most attractions in Melacca. We do not need a car to go around during our stay in Melacca. The staffs are attentive and friendly, they greet us without fail every time they see us. We've got a room downstairs and we can hear people from the floor above when they walk. Please make sure you don't get a room at ground floor if you are a light sleeper. Bed is very comfortable, air-con is strong and we had a good night sleep. One single thing I hope Layang-layang can improve on is the towel provided. The towel don't smell good when I used it again the next morning.

        Superb location”

Location...location...location...the location is superb, very near Jalan Jonker. We can easily back and go everywhere because it is near to all the good spot we want to see. The only minus point that the room not as nice as the picture shown. But in summary, we will stay again in Layang-layang.

        Great for Family”

Layang Layang is great for families, I booked a family room consist of 2 x queen size bed. No attached toilet but the common toilets are just a few steps from my room. There is a common rest area with chairs and tables to play board games, taking some snacks or even reading a book. This common area allows my kids to roam around rather than keeping themselves in the room. There is no television, I think it is good for the kids too. There is room on the upper floor, and when there are movement of people, the trumping sound of the footsteps could be heard clearly through the wooden floor slab. If you are a light sleeper, this could affect you. I suggest the owner lay a thick carpet along the corridor to soften the noise. The location is good, tit is next to Jonker Street, and a few minutes to Times Square, etc. Carpark are limited, I reached about 3pm and need to drive 3 to 4 round to get a nearby parking lot. Parking is free on Sat and Sun.

it was moderate comfort but cheap”

        price. location. the interior deco.

It was comfortable I must. As a budget hotel Layang Layang guest house, I don't hv much complaint. Price is the best feature the hotel has. Plus, even though the room are small and the wall are thin, but I like the comfy mattress and pillow. The room are well lighted even though there was no window.

        We had a great stay”

Big common area, clean, comfortable beds

We were a group of 7 friends traveling together in Melaka. I've always stayed in hotels which are not that well located compared to this guest house. Being just 3mins away from jonker street it's convenient if big groups are traveling together. You save on transport. What's more the common area is huge and pretty good wifi. There are hair dryers you can borrow, and toilets are very clean, no smell so that's really awesome. It is relatively new so beds are comfortable and new too. Beds were relatively big. Of all the guest house i walked passed on the same street this was the best because of the common area. We were a little concern in the beginning and not sure what to expect, but we were all pleasantly surprised by the place and enjoyed our stay.

        Unique, Clean & Cozy”

Very near to Jonker Street, near Hard Rock Cafe, just 10 minutes walk to the Dataran Pahlawan.

Arrival my wife & i were greeted kindly by Ms.Daphne & Mr.Hong. Clean guesthouse atmosphere , unique & cool . We remember when we used to balik kampung on Hari Raya. Staff are good & gentle. For the first time indirectly on our first night we stayed in served with vege chinese food dinner to celebrate their 1st Anniversary of the guest house. The guest house is very closed to shop, spa, Hard Rock cafe & Dataran Pahlawan & just only beside Jonker Street. But i'm very sorry to say is due to our muslim, its kinda hard to search for halal food around there. Other than that is very good & nice place to stay to earn the very amazing experience for newbie like us! Gonna stayed for next trip to Melaka again & recommend to friend!

        Felt like staying home, but..”

        convenient, safe, friendly staff

The satisfied part first is for the location which is convenient & quiet as it located at street beside of night market street. Second, it's bring safe like home as it provide access card to touch when come back at night. Third satisfied part will be the cleanliness of toilet & room. Actually when I stays outside toilet provided will be main concerned for me. When the toilet is sharing,we all worried the only thing is whether toilet are clean like how we seen in the picture. Well, I saw the regularly cleaning done by the stuff & I think I made a right choice. However, there are some dissatisfied part as well. I think management should have regularly disinfected on the floor out of room as well as the bed sheet. Actually it's not dirty as I mention above it's looks clean enough, however for me & one of my friends who have type of sensitive skin, once our skin touch the bed sheet, or our feet touch the floor outside of room, our skin felt itchy & redness, mine some more got swollen on my palms & feets. Regularly disinfected is strongly needed. Second, management should have considered for giving family which have kids to stay downstairs. When kids are run or jump at upstairs in the early morning or late night, they actually disturb us as the upstairs floor made by wooden and no extra ceiling beyond our room. Not only kids, even the staff walking fast upstairs, we can feel where they walk as well. This expect improvements if layang wish customer may come twice. Last, the rent bicycle should have some flexible time for customers. Generally customers stay in hotel are mainly who rent for the bicycle. In my opinion, layang should have flexible time like rent out 24hours at any time customers request. As my experience, the rent out time is from 9 am to 9 pm so when I request to rent bicycle on 5pm they actually not recommended us to do that, as we only can rent 4hours. The rules should amended & become flexible as tranveller need new explore for place even at night.

        Pleasant place to stay”

        hygiene, location & staff

Right next to Jonker street. And walking distance to Malacca riverside and historical sites. Hygiene is good compare to other hostels/guest houses which I have stayed, especially toilet hygiene. Total 8 toilets in the guest house. Room is simple. Just a bed, aircond and small bed table. No wardrobe. You can hang your towel behind door. Noise isolation is bad because of old building, many parts in the building is made of wood. Early morning you might get awake if you're light sleeper. Finding parking is difficult because it is close to the famous tourist spots and in shop houses area. Staff, is friendly

Very good location, friendly staff, acceptable room

The location is very good, near the center, specially the Dutch Square. It doesn't take time to go everywhere. The room's a bit small but it's ok. The staff were really friendly and kind. The cute girl helped me so much. Thank you very much Layang Layang. I will definitely stay here if I come back Melaka :D

        Perfect Backpacker Guest House”

Location, Value for Money, Friendly Staff

We really enjoyed the stay, very friendly and helpful staff. They even have hair dryer for us to borrow, washing machine to use. Coffee, Cold/Hot/Room Temp Water, Biscuits. Very well equip place and value for money. The place is clean and equipped with 8 toilets. I hope there were many guest houses like these all over the world! We were just 2mins away from jonker, many cafes and back alleys to explore too. Highly Recommended. There is a shop opposite the guest house that sells coffin, but it doesn't affect us :)
