Great value for money, fantastic service”
Our stay at Lazy Republique was great. The villa is spacious and clean, the property in general is lovely and tastefully designed, and the service was outstanding. There was no refrigerator or TV in our room, but we didn't really miss either - we hardly watch any TV when we're on holidays, and there's a lot of things to do in Koh Chang. Lazy Republique is a bit of a walk (5-10 minutes) to the beaches, but it didn't bother us one bit considering the value for money and the fact that we can spend a bit more on things other than accommodation without sacrificing comfort and service (we went there during the monsoon, when most beaches in Southeast Asia aren't as nice as they can be, anyway). Like other reviewers have mentioned, the food is very good so we ended up eating there almost all the time. And yes, the chocolate lava cake! I am a chocoholic and a good baker (according to family, friends and colleagues), and I give their chocolate lava cake two thumbs up. Probably the best part of our stay was the excellent service. Nathalie and Leong, the owners, are very friendly, hospitable and accommodating to their guests, who seem to be treated as if they were friends and family. From the personalized service at the restaurant (they all knew how my boyfriend likes his food - very spicy) and recommending other good places to eat as well as activities we might find interesting, to the Leong helping my boyfriend find a better deal on a scooter after we reported to him that someone tried to overcharge us, such level of service is so rare that we find it amazing when we experience it. We will definitely want to stay at Lazy Republique again when we're back in Koh Chang.
Affordable modern villas in Bai Lan”
You can really tell when love, care, and attention to detail have played an important role in the foundations of a business, and I would conclude that this is the case at Lazy Republique: From the continuously freshly brewed coffee, to the rattan decorations and various modern fixtures in the spacious bathroom, the understated, purposely unfinished, light grey walls, the perfectly placed, extremely cute black alarm clock on the glass-top desk, the comfy bed, the delicious, dense, and crusty bread that is served in the hotel restaurant, and don't even get me started on the chocolate lava cake, which is more soufflé, than it is cake...YUM! There is an option to have breakfast included with the room rate for only a few more dollars, or 150 baht ($5) if ordered separately, and I would say I loved every single second of my breakfasts at Lazy Republique...eggs however you'd like them prepared, crispy bacon or ham, delicious, freshly sliced and slightly toasted bread, served with lightly salted butter and homemade orange marmalade, as well as freshly squeezed orange juice, brewed coffee, and beautifully carved seasonal fresh fruit. The a la carte lunch and dinner menus offers a variety of Western dishes as well as Thai items, and I fell head over heels, in lust, with the spicy salami sandwich, which meets all my criteria for being the perfectly assembled sandwich; perfect bread, perfect fillings, perfect spread, perfect fries. I had most of my meals at the hotel restaurant, and thoroughly enjoyed myself each time. Service is fantastic, and Leong and Nathalie, the husband and wife team who own the lovely resort, are beyond accomodating and hospitable! As of today, there are only 4 free-standing, modern, concrete villas on the property, ecompassed by lush greenery, offering a magnificent view of Koh Chang's majestic mountains, as well as a partial view of the nearest beach, located just 200 meters away. Although the area, Bailan, is not nearly as developed or populated as
Great stay despite monsoon weather”
Since we were travelling during rainy season, on the first night, we were hit by a very bad storm that cut out the electricity for 12 hours. The hotel owner, Leong, made sure to look into the problem and give us updates. Despite this, since the bungalow is mainly concrete, we felt safe from heavy winds and rain. The bed was a bit hard, but the bungalow overall was comfortable, stylish, cleaned daily, and the showers were nice and hot. This being off-season, the restaurant was closed, so we were allowed to bring snacks and beer to the communal area and relax. We were also happy to eat food made by locals at the many street-side stands and restaurants in Bai Lan and Lonely Beach. We had a lot of fun on the motorbike that was rented to us by the Lazy Republique staff, and I was delighted by the friendly dogs and cats that greeted us as we walked by neighboring properties. Overall, this was a great stay and I would definitely stay at Lazy Republique again.
Could have been so much better.”
Me and partner booked at the Lazy Republique Villa after reading the awesome reviews so we had pretty high expectations. We were greeted by a lovely Thai lady who showed us to our room, which was spacious and clean and had great air con and complimentary water in the fridge. We were hoping to get some food after our long day but was confused to find the restaurant area was not open and nobody was to be found, we found this pretty disappointing as we had heard so much about the delicious food they serve there. The next morning we went for breakfast, hoping to meet the owners of the place but again was greeted by the Thai lady, named Nem. She served us our breakfast which was beautiful, we had bacon, eggs, fresh bread with butter and jam and delicious coffee. The little town, Bay Lan is a little out of the way, it's about 10-15 minutes walk to Lonely beach (which is mostly uphill) so a scooter would be the best way to get around and to view the island. Overall our stay was good, the place itself is nicely situated, you fall asleep to the sounds of nature :), the breakfast we had was excellent and the location is good if you can get a scooter. The only downside was the lack of food at night which we was really looking forward to and the fact that out of the whole seven nights we stayed there, we never met the owners, these were the two things that sold this place to us in the first place and these are the two things that would have made our stay so much better.
Beautiful spot ! Immediately you will feel like at home in Lazy Republique. A really nice place ! Good design, beautiful tropical garden and roof top. Incredible food, you can choose Thai or Western food. Very clean and design bungalows. Nathalie, Loeng, Gilles and the staff are really friendly, receptive, smiling and very helpful ! This is "the address" on Koh Chang !!!
Adored this mini resort”
It was awesome! I *loved* Lazy Republique and would definitely stay here again next time I visit Koh Chang. The owners are so friendly, the food is delicious, the quiet music is eclectic and interesting, the rooms are very clean, minimalist, modern and comfortable. Excellent - would recommend.
Lovely friend relaxation”
So nice to stay at lazy republique villa. Had a really good time with my girlfriend having relaxation with nature of Koh Chang because of sweet villa.
Nice private rooms in quit village”
Lazy Republique had some Nice private bungalows with airco. They only serve Breakfast. This accomodation is in Bailan, quit town on Koh Chang. From Bailan you Can easy drive with a motorbike to Lonely Beach and Klong Koi Beach ( our favourite)
Peaceful environment and awesome owners”
We had a very great stay in Lazy republique villa. Their place was great. it's very simple, cozy and quiet. The owners were very lovely and they talk to their customers and make sure that we get the service that we need. I love the couple. I hope their business will be successful.
Great and quite place to relax”
We stayed for 3 days in Lazy Republique. Stay was great, room was spacious and clean, with AC working properly. Shower was fine although drainage was slightly blocked, but no rpoblem. Host: if i remember well his name was Long and he was incredibly welcoming. Always came to say hello in the morning and to have a short chat, always with the smile. We felt very welcome. Breakfast: really nice, Served with love. you can choose from few options and they preparing it for you. I always had scramble egg with ham or bacon. and it was very delicious! My wife had muesli with yogurt and fruits and was also happy with it. In General Location is not near to action, but you have few shops close by, also scooter rent is next door for only 200 bath per day.. Highly Recommend!
I will be back”
Had a great time, Nathalie and Long who own the place are awesome hosts. They are always up for a nice chat. The place is located away from the streams of tourists and close to lonely beach. The bungalows are in great shape and are unlike most of the standard bungalows on the island designed in a great and modern way. see the pictures. Next time I am going to kohl chang the lazy republique is where I am going to stay again. Highly recommendable!
Very nice villas”
Very nice villas (only 4) with great restaurant attached, owned by international couple. Very friendly! Villas are nice and new, but look unfinished: lack of paint and furniture inside. Looks like they didn't have time to finish all that was planned, and hurried to open in 2012-13 season. Hope, it will be fixed later: the rooms need some decor, and minimal set of stuff: TV, fridge, a pair of nightstands. Great breakfast provided! A lot of people come here for a dinner. For the beach (the villas are located on the Bai Lan, not Lonely Beach as described) you should go 5-10 min by motorbike.
Our best accomodation during the trip”
Lazy Republique is just so nice, every evening it was a pleasure to get back to this place. Very calm area, but close there are some nice, cheap restaurants, and a shop if you need anything. Renting a motorbike is HIGHLY recommended as you can reach amazing beaches very easily - it's safe and cheap. The owners, Fred and Philippe are kind and colourful people, they gave great suggestions and info about what to see in the area. We liked the well maintained garden with a jungle atmosfere and the clean, salt-water pool. And Dominique the gecko with its funny sound.
A delightful chill-out spot”
My stay at Lazy was delightful. The resort is situated at the northern end of Bailan, a quiet, peaceful little town with great people and great food, and just a 10 minute walk from the party area of Lonely Beach. The owners are extremely hospitable, and truly made me feel at home! The included breakfast was fantastic, and the coffee was European-style pot with milk on the side. The room was basic, clean, functional, and comfortable, with a big bed, air-conditioning, hot water and a refrigerator—it felt like my little home-away-from-home. I really miss this place! I stayed for a week; I could have stayed for a month. I highly recommended it for a quiet chill-out pad whilst staying on Koh Chang! I would stay again. Thank you so much for giving me such a warm and pleasant stay!
Enjoyable stay in Bai Lan, private villas”
Very enjoyable place to stay in Bai Lan... quiet and peaceful. Included breakfast was great. There are also good restaurants near by. The brand new concrete villas have sliding fly screens and glass windows to let air in and keep bugs out. Gardens are nice, well maintained and are lit up at night. The staff are friendly and took care of laundry. No complaints at all.
Very friendly and helpful”
Situated in my favourite part of Koh Chang this area has a nice village feel. The Lazy Republique is in a good quiet location, with very friendly and helpful owner, who was a pleasure to meet. Everything here is of a good standard
Great experience! Awesome owners”
We enjoyed our stay at lazy republique very much. We were only able to stay for two nights, we would have loved to extend our stay as the owners made us feel so welcome and comfortable. It's a very personal and intimate experience. We loved it and would recommend it to anyone!
We had a great stay at Lazy Republique. The bungalow was very comfortable and it was great to have no TV or WiFi for a week. The staff and owners were all very friendly and polite. The garden is beautiful and natural and the sky is really clear in the night. Take a walk through the Resort across the road to a lovely quiet little beach..
Beautiful Relaxing Garden Villas on Koh Chang”
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at lazy republique, the location is ideal access to lonely beach and bang bao
Pleasantly surprised, great stay”
I was a little afraid to write a review on this for fear that it will not remain such a hidden gem anymore. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It was such a pleasant surprise to see that everything is as per the photos put up by the hotel. The place is very new, opened this year. The whole atmosphere is so relaxing - the private bungalows with lounge chairs, the restaurant with a chill-out area on the roof, the garden lounge area, the great food and service. Owners are very friendly and hands on. Also knowledgable about the area so don't be afraid to ask if you'd like to know where to go to for massages, diving, etc. Was really sad to leave this place and will definitely be back.
