Very pleasant stay at Le Canal”
Le Canal Boutique house was about as anticipated. It is a very clean and well situated, and the suite that we booked was EXTREMELY spacious. The hotel is located at the north gate of the old city of Chiang Mai. It is close to a small night food street market that is just on the north side of the north gate. Best som authentic and traditional tom, as well as stewed pork with pickled cabbage, that we've had...and we are very critical authentic Asian foodies. The cafe at the lobby is very convenient, and the coffee is good. One can walk from Le Canal to the south gate (across old city of Chiang Mai within about 15 minutes), pretty much covering all of the temples and sites within the old city. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, both in terms of general hotel service, as well as recommendations for good authentic Thai food. They recommended the best northern Thai restaurant ever: Huan Muen Jai. In particular, the young man (named Dang...hopefully spelled correctly), was extremely friendly and helpful with explanations and other questions we had; he was so helpful that we were compelled to buy him back dessert on the way back from our each of our daily adventures. The only shortcomings were as follows: heat of water in the shower was not stable; sometimes it would get cold or hot very quickly and unexpectedly unexpectedly; the wifi signal is very weak/spotty; no elevator (so with a lot of luggage, it was a bit of a hassle, although the staff helped us to carry luggage up to our room); there was no heater (3 of the walls of our bedroom were almost floor to ceiling windows, and it got cold at night). Otherwise, a great deal, friendly service, and we would probably go back the next time we are in Chiang Mai.
Very Friendly, Great Location, Amazing Value”
In a city full of good guesthouses, Le Canal really stood out. The staff are super friendly, approachable and professional. The young couple who own Le Canal and their staff obviously care very much about what they are doing and make sure you have as best a time as possible in Chiang Mai. In short, they are everything you can ask for a great host! Location wise, the North Gate (Chang Phuaek) is the perfect place to stay and soak up the Chiang Mai atmosphere, with the old city on one side and a local market and songthaew station to Doi Suthep on the other. The room is also very homely, tasteful and comfortable - the only issue being it may be a bit noisy given there is a gap on the door and Sriphoom is a major throughfare - but the comfortable bed more than makes up for this! If you are after value for money and staying in a very hospitable place to make the most of your trip to Chiang Mai, then I couldn't recommend Le Canal enough!
Best hotel of our entire trip”
We loved it. It's quite a new hotel and everything looks accordingly fresh and clean. The family that runs the hotel is very helpful and friendly. Got some great tips on things to visit, where to eat and what to do. The room and bathroom were spacious and we loved the design. I think it's a modern/minimalistic approach of the Tha Lanna style. Hotel owner designed the hotel himself, so be sure to compliment him if you like it. For us this hotel is an A+ value for money. Two things that we didn't mind but you might do: you can hear a constant traffic noise, although not very loud, in your room and the hotel doesn't offer breakfast. That's no big deal, because there are many eating (including breakfast) options within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We often ate at a French hotel/restaurant 20 meters from Le Canal. Attached to Le Canal itself is a great coffeeshop that offers pre-wrapped sandwiches and cornflakes with milk, which can serve as breakfast too. Location within the old city is good. You can walk, but songthaews are very cheap in Chiang Mai and can take you everywhere for as little as €0,50 per person.
Hotel w/family feel perfectly matching Chiang Mai”
My stay at Le Canal was possibly the best hotel experience I have had and it is highly recommended as your choice of accommodation in Chiang Mai. It truly is a boutique hotel where the staff are able to look after you in every aspect due to the smaller number of guests at any given time. The rooms are really comfortable and everything that you generally require for a stay is provided. Everything is quality from the bed to the toiletry supplies. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. If you require alot of help and advice, they will happily provide it but if you like privacy they are good at being non-intrusive. All advice provided to me was accurate and all recommendation checked out to be of quality. The hotel is located on the North perimeter of the Old City and it is extremely easy to access the Nimman and Tha Phae areas (prominent for nightlife) from here, let alone the Old City itself. There are plenty of food options nearby and the coffee served at the adjoining cafe (to the hotel) is a quality blend - so you will never be without the 2 bare essentials. Special shout-out to Aoom for being an exceptional hotel manager. Best wishes for the continual success of the hotel and thank you for contributing to an unforgettable experience in beautiful charming CM.
Comfortable Stay at Unique Boutique Hotel”
Enjoyed 3-day stay at Le Canal Boutique House. Suite room was immaculately clean and quite spacious for such bargain price. Hotel located along north rim of City Center, which is rather convenient location -- can either hire motorbike or take taxi w/out any hassle. Staff very welcoming and super friendly, will accommodate any requests by guest to best of their ability. If traveling to Chiang Mai in future, will definitely consider staying at Le Canal again.
Not so fancy, but one of the best!”
Strategically located in the middle of old town, this hotel is closed to any daily essential such as shops, convenient stores, restaurants, bars and markets. Any major attractions are within 10 to 15 minutes "red car" ride - cheap and fast! If you are like me who enjoy walking, that's an ever better way to get to know your way around the city and discover hidden temples, cafés and local food vendors. There are the most amazing staff who make you feel at home. They understand you need and make helpful recommendation for your daily activities. Being a solo female traveler, comfort and security are the two most important things, La Canal provided me both and more. It was one of my best accommodation experience. Despite being on the side of the road, the traffic noise didn't bother me because I was exhausted from a full day of exploring the city. Chiang Mai is such a beautiful little city that I can see myself living for much longer than 4 days. You can find everything you need within walking distance. If you are someone who loves photography, especial landscape and portrait, there are plenty of angels and stories to shoot. Overall, I will 100% recommend this boutique house, especially for group of friends, couples who are after some city adventure and solo travelers.
Great Family Run Place”
Le Canal Boutique is clean and new -- it was built in late 2012. The beds are soft and the showers are hot. The A/C is wall-mounted, and once you give it a few minutes it blows nice, cold air. Le Canal Boutique is really a steal, and compares favorably to places that are twice as expensive. But what really sets Le Canal Boutique apart from the dozens of other small hotels in Chiangmai's old city is the service. Along with the coffee shop on the first floor, it's run by a family who lives on the premises. They are great -- warm, welcoming, and helpful. They gave me great advice about places to go and temples to see, and helped me hail taxis and negotiate with drivers. Staying at Le Canal Boutique, I felt like I had a resource that helped me get the most out of my visit.
Nice place to stay”
The hotel is located somewhere near the North Gate of Chiang Mai old city. Walking around the old city is easy from here or you can rent a bicycle or motorcycle through the front desk of the hotel. I like the motorcycle renting service as i do not need to walk to a shop and return back the motorcycle to them as i can ask them to pick up from the hotel directly. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The signage of this hotel is not that clear and we are not sure where to go when we just reached there. The front desk guy purposely walked out and asked if we are looking for Le Canal, and helped guiding us to the hotel while carrying our luggage. I had a very good first impression of this hotel. The room is big, comfort and clean. My room is on the third floor (No elevator in this hotel) and near to the back. There is a futsal field at the back of the hotel. You can hear some noises from the field but it is very light and will not affect your rest. No breakfast provided though, so no comment on the food. It is a good hotel and i personally think that i will return to this hotel if i go to Chiang Mai again.
A wonderful addition to Chiang Mai hotels”
we booked this hotel through agoda because my usual hotel in chiang mai was full. how fortunate!! le canal was only open a few months at the time of our stay and so the rooms were in wonderful condition. the rooms are smartly decored and very comfortable, with all of the basic facilities for a comfortable stay provided. in fact, the whole hotel is smart and modern and is truly boutique in the sense that there is a limited number of rooms - thus, the service and friendliness are superbly intimate. best of all, downstairs, is a coffee shop with excellent, high quality drinks; great for my morning coffee! the address location on the inner northern road, sriphoom, could not be more convenient for melding the old city with the new outside it and for a lovely view of the northern city moat. i was so happy with everything that i booked an additional week!
Nice and well located hostel! ”
We really liked to stay at Le Canal Boutique. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. The personnel was very friendly at all time. Moreover, the owner gave us some useful tips about the city, rent services and day trips. We drove to Pai for a few days and booked another stay at Le Canal Boutique after. We could leave our big backpacks there so we were able to drive to Pai on our own since we just had our day packs. Additionally, the hostel is well located. You are close to the old town and in the evening there is a nice food market across the street and a lot of bars and restaurants around.
OVERALL: it was a comfortable stay in this hotel. I was concerned about the roadside noise and the mosquito (comments from some reviews), so i left requirements for "high floor, no mosquito". The hotel arranged me to stay on the 3rd floor which was pretty nice. NOISE: It was noisy outside because of the hotel location (by the main road), but i noticed the hotel had added an extra layer to the bottom of the door, when the door is closed, the noise was not bad inside the room. MOSQUITO: I did see one or two mosquito in the room, but it didn't bother me. I am super attractive to mosquito, I guess the low temperature indoor helps, keep them from bothering me. LOCATION: right by the north gate. it takes me 15-20 minutes on foot to Wat Chedi Luang, about 30 minutes walking to the Imperial hotel to visit the hotel room where Teresa Deng (DENG LIJUN-a famous chinese singer in the 80s-90s, lived and died there). Less than 10 minutes to the Sunday night market. overall, it's very convenient to go to many places on foot or by other vehicles. the hotel pics on agoda are definitely professionally done. They make the hotel looks high end. I wouldn't call this a 3 star hotel though, it's more like a higher end more sophisticated hostel. i thought the price of the hotel is very reasonable. when i was in Chiang Mai, I realized how cheap it is to live, eat, buy there. There are tons of hotels there inside the old city, if you are on a tighter budget, look for other cheaper options, otherwise, this is a pretty good option.
I had a wonderfull stay at Le Canal. It is situated right on the moat in the Old City so it was very easy to catch the red taxi outside. I walked around the moat road one evening and there is a great evening food market to buy fruit and to get some dinner. The manager helped me out by booking me a hairdresser appointment and organising my laundry to be done. She and her husband were friendly and great to chat with. There is a great coffeeshop downstairs. I am coming back to Chiang Mai in January with my mum and would like to stay here again.
I book this accomodation few months before i went to Chiang Mai, i got 30%off for early bird promotion! They have friendly staff. When i check in, she gave me a map and introduce the travel spot to me.I live at the 1st floor Room 001, although the room is facing the main road, and there is a jazz bar near Le Canal, but it's quite enough for me to rest. Luckily to stay at here for my Chiang Mai trip.It was a good expereince. Great choice and recommend to everyone who are considering!
Fantastic value for money with wonderful owners”
My stay was excellent and I will go back to this hotel whenever I am in Chiang Mai and I travel there a lot from my Bangkok home. The hotel and room design is great, especially the bathroom. Do not worry about no breakfast as there are plenty of local places to eat nearby plus the famous C.M. jazz bar for night-time. Some people may be troubled by the noise of the main road around the canal and the football ground at the back but the room soundproofing was enough for me. Thw owners (lovely couple - always smiling and providing small tidbits to eat each day) are always around and nothing was too much trouble for them. I asked many things from them and they always abliged with a smile. Great hotel and wonderful value for money!
Small room, great location”
I've been to Chiang Mai before and I just love this location. I chose Le Canal because of the location and price, it is fairly inexpensive but it is a very small room. The water pressure is terrible and you cannot adjust the temperature very well. There is no safe box, I didn't feel comfortable leaving my passport or money in my room. I won't stay here next time. The staff is very friendly and it's pretty clean.
Best Value for the money!”
We stayed in different hotels like Thong Ta and Sibsan Resort but so far Le Canal Boutique House was best value for the money. Convenient location, close to Sunday Night Market. Walking distance to great restaurants.
Excellent boutique style hotel in the old city”
Lovely modern boutique style hotel with great location on the edge of the old city near the canal. Room was large, very comfy bed, and clean bathroom. Easy walking distance to all the main pagodas and lots of cafes/ restaurants. Very friendly helpful staff who can help book trips and buses etc.
Good stay @ Le Canal”
It's a very nice family op modern boutique hotel. It locates right on the street, a bit away from the most busy part in the old Chiang Mai. Easy to get a Song Taew or taxi. Short walk to eateries. A local morning market is near by. I was able to get Pa Tong Go (chinese bignette) for breakfast. Very conve nient! Will recommend this highly.
Very Pleasant Stay”
Le Canal was actually recommended by a friend, and I would also recommend it. Very friendly staff. Easy to remember location. Nearby 7-11. Nearby public transit. Helped me find store I needed on first day, and extended my stay by 1 night. The bathroom was fantastic and TV had many options. I did not use wifi (my device broke), but there was good internet place 5-7min walk for 15Baht/hr. My only recommendation would be to figure out how to handle the ants. Chiang Mai has lots of ants and they were in the room and even on the bed linens. Thank you for great stay!
Possibly the BEST hotel I've stayed in. This place was spotless, so very clean. When we arrived the guy at the front desk gave us a map, told us about the area and told us how much a taxi or tuk tuk should cost. The hotel is beautiful and even has a pretty public area to have coffee or relax with a view of the canal. There's a coffee shop next to the lobby, very convenient. I asked if they had bicycle rentals and he said, " you can just use ours for free." We used the bikes once but ended up mostly walking because everything was so close. I had read some reviews about the soccer field and traffic being noisy, the people that complained must live in the forest...under a rock. Yes there's noise but it's the background noise that you can't avoid when you live in the city. I felt it wasn't loud at all. The location is perfect for tuk tuk's because if they don't know the hotel you just say, "north gate" and you're good. There's a 7/11 about a 2 minute walk away. Laundry next door. This hotel was perfect!
