Best value for the price ”

Good location, friendly staff, inexpensive cost

I enjoyed my stay a lot. This is probably the best value hostel in Luang Prabang. The staff are all nice and willing to assist. The location is excellent, not in front of the busiest street so it's quiet but close enough that it's still easily accessible. I would only suggest that they replace some of the mattresses in the fan rooms since these have been used so frequently that they give minimal cushioning. The air con rooms however we very comfortable.

fun, sociable and great location”

the staff/owner was amazing, location great and sociable to meet other backpackers

the owner was amazing and always there to help and socialise with all of us. He took us to the main waterfalls and anywhere we wanted to go at a really cheap rate and got involved with the activities. They were really helpful and treated us like family. Was a great place to meet other backpackers as was very sociable and dorms were clean and felt safe. Lockers available so that helped with securing valuables. The location was really good as it was just down the road from the main street and the bars. Would recommend this place to all backpackers and was recommended it by a friend that had already stayed.

Great Backpacker hostel near the centre”

Friendly personal

I stayed in Spacy Lao Backpackers longer than I wanted. The best is location - not so far from the city and night market. This place is lovely - great but confused personal, clean rooms and lots of interesting people around. If you want to meet lots of people, this is the best place. But if you are looking for a quiet place - don't choose this hostel. There is a camp fire every night , so sometimes you feel like you are camping :) I really enyoed my time here :)

Great atmosphere, friendly owners/staff”

As stated: atmosphere and staff

Stayed for two nights. The rooms are large open spaces with curtains separating the different areas. I guess it's more like a bungalow than a hostel and different from any I have ever stayed at. The linen was clean and the staff was friendly. The owner personally drove me to the station to catch a bus to Hanoi. Location is on outskirts of town, but it's a small town.

Very good value.”

Value, location, fast wifi.

Lemon Lao has very basic facilities, but is very good value. The air conditioned dorm rooms are the most comfortable, but wifi can be accessed in the fan rooms. The wifi was very fast and reliable. Even though I arrived very early in the morning I was allowed to check in early as a bed was free, which was nice. Some of the staff members speak exceptional English, while others speak very basic English and when checking in you may get asked "what do you want?" The hostel offers good value day trips, but long distance bus tickets can be purchased cheaper in the main street.

Nice stay. Staff as well as other backpackers nice”

Nice staff, nice atmosphere, cheap

I enjoyed it mainly because of the fact the everyone I met there (staff and the other travelers) were so nice. It's a typical backpacker place, not too quiet but not loud, it's just the right atmosphere. Bathrooms and toilets are ok (if you can find them, takes a while till you work it out). I had one annoyingly hot night though. Stayed in a 6-share dormitory and not everyone could benefit from the two fans. But it's a cheap and friendly place.

better than expected”

nice staff, cheap and above expectation

contrary to all the reviews i read, this place isn't a big party hostel at all. got there the first night and it was real quiet. the next night i went out and all the drinking was done in the town and I believe that we were quiet when we got back in. The owner has a young family after all. The hostel itself is what you get when you're paying like £3.20 a night. Beds were fine for me, thin mattress but able to sleep on. Some other girls in my dorm complained about bed bugs but I didn't notice anything. The room was A\C'd but you didn't need it on during rainy season. Water pressure in the bathroom sink was the only real down point. Oh and a lack of plug sockets but that's just a first world problem, you can live without it. The owner seemed nice, organised my onwards travel for me and such. Overall a better experience than I had been expecting. Having said that my expectations were pretty low to start with.

Great location but small rooms”

location...

This hotel has a character. It is very near to the city centre. Not at all noisy. Always some activity is going on. If you are a solo traveller and want to share a tuk tuk to go to a place with fellow travellers then it is a great place, since they are organizing tours etc in the hostel itself. They have a travel desk too. The staffs are good...but I found the breakfat a bit expensive. They have free internet - though keyboard signs are mostly missing ! Ideal for backpackers - but it is bit noisy. But a very interesting place to meet many people.

what a dump!!!”

dirty, old and unfriendly staff

i booked lemon lao because my bus from vientiane was arriving after 7pm and after reading reviews i thought it would be a great place to meet people. no doubt there were solo travelers staying there and i got the last bed in a fan dorm. that room hhad dirty walls and my bed didn't even have a mattress on it. i think it was a bes sized seat cushion. the toilets were down the hallway and in decent shape except that there was no roof when you went there so you got rained on. there were no sinks to wash your hands on the second level which to me is a hygiene problem. downstairs next to the check in area were two dirty and disgusting showers with cold water only. most importantly this place is quite a walk away from old town and any restaurants or bars. the next day i packed up and found a nice guesthouse with my own room and hot shower right in town. will never stay here again although i plan on coming back to luang prabang again and again. its an amazing little city.

Good staff, clean bathroom with hot water shower, camping atmosphere

It's more like a summer camp! U'll like it if u like dorm! Wifi good, staff great, bathroom good enough so no worries. Location good. Especially they have cheap offer to Khuangsi waterfall, which is so great! And the young guy was kind enough to bring my suitcase upstair & helped me when it's broken. Even if u don't often like dorm, this one is still a good start for u to take a glance into dorm society ;)

Disappointing backpacker/budget accomodation”

10 minute walk to night market, cheap, nothing else!

We stayed in Luang Prabang for three nights but decided to move to another backpackers after staying only one night. This was the worst backpackers we have seen in our 3 months in SE Asia, and compared to others was poor value for money. There was no power points in the room and only one ceiling fan that did not cover all the beds. Had a bad nights sleep constantly itchy (bed bugs?) and the atmosphere was not enjoyable. The place has a rustic charm but it's not worth it. Spend the extra $1-2 and choose another backpacker or guesthouse!

Do not stay!”

They have renamed themselves in agoda from spice Laos backpacker because of all the terrible reviews online. This means no one can direct you to where it is for a start. The doors do not have locks on and so anyone can come into your room whenever. A sign in German was written by an old guest warning is that the cleaning staff steal and there is nowhere to put valuables. The staff were not approachable in the sense that of you disturbed them watching tv they would be genuinely angry at you. They sent away my organised tuk tuk for my bus station connection as I did not book through them. And we're completely unhelpful to the point they just shrugged told me I should have sorted through them and sat back down to watch television. Do not stay here there are lots of other much nicer places closer to town. I have been traveling around Asia 6 weeks and this is by asia the worst experience I have had!!!!

Cheap and awful”

Price, but you get what you pay for

This backpackers is good for only one kind of traveller: those who absolutely have to spend as little as possible, and don't have any plans for the next day. To say that it was basic would be giving it unnecessary credit. The room was barely big enough for the two bunk beds, the electic wiring looks like something out of a horror movie, there's no power socket to charge your phone, the walls are only halfway plastered, the floor is bare concrete, and the door can't be locked. The beds were pretty uncomfortable too. The mattresses were so thin, they might as well not have been there. The bathroom is similarly spartan. The toilet can't even flush, you have scoop water from a bucket. The "atmosphere" is only good if you want to party all night. Doors and windows don't close, and the place is tiny, so voices from outside carries loudly into the dorms. We were planning to get up early to see the sunrise over the Mekong, and were kept awake until after 4am by a handful of people still hanging out by the fireplace. Also, the reception person didn't seem to know who Agoda was, and it took some effort to explain that we had already paid. We ended up getting a hotel room elsewhere for £2 a night more.

Great atmosphere, good place to meet people

It's the place to be if you are eager to meet people. Otherwise you get what you pay for. Beds are like wooden planks, probably worst I slept on so far. And I travelled through whole Laos. Staff was very rude and tried to sell me very overpriced ticket on slowboat. And by overpriced I mean 10$ extra.
