Nice simple hotel”
Lovely hotel. Clean and interesting surrounding. Lovely and tidy rooms. Staff were friendly and professional.
The lady who runs the breakfast room is a total delight. The decor in the front foyer could do with some attention, as could the water-starved rhododendron trees in the park. It's horrible to see them dying.
Resort style stay for a great price”
The staff were so friendly and welcoming! Fantastic facilities (pool, tennis and bikes) not far from town. Bar and restaurant. Beautiful outdoor areas. Rooms were good size and clean. Modern bathroom. Would strongly recommend!
Very comfortable and clean, the place had a great feel to it. Beautiful grounds. Will return again. ”
Couldn’t fault it for the price.
Great history to the property, large room, friendly staff, free bikes and good food in the restaurant.
old charm, retro at it's best ”
perhaps improved maintenance
Second visit to this lovely art deco building set on beautiful grounds, lots of history. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and cosy. Complimentary light breakfast included.
Loved the old nurses home”
Large room, clean and great to see renovation of such a large complex building. The grounds are beautiful and the older dereli t structures add real character.
Beautiful art deco building, great decor in the rec rooms on each level. Room was a good size, well decorated and very clean, quite surprised how big the ensuite was
Decor in room is tired and could do with freshening up but beds are warm, clean and comfortable. Set in Beautiful gardens.
Interesting location but needs some TLC ”
This hotel is in a fascinating location - set in an old asylum, but seems to have become run-down considerably since our last visit about twelve years ago. The common areas are looking very unloved and the carpets and paintwork need a refresh. The grounds are fascinating, but again, so sad to see these looking unloved and not cared for. We had a lovely stay - the free bikes are a nice touch and the couple of staff that we encountered were pleasant enough, but please someone - show some love to such an amazing historical place.
Clean & ambient fascinating place to stay. ”
We liked it a lot, clean, central location, interesting history and beautiful property. The stars in the night sky stole the show. Stunning. Good for a practical affordable couple of days away For RAnd R !
Very clean room and bathroom. Breakfast included in the price was a bonus. The gardens around the building are beautiful, look forward to seeing them again in autumn.. We will diffently be going back.
We really enjoyed our stay. It's an atmospheric spot with lovely grounds and lots to explore. Rooms are spotlessly clean and the linens are good quality. Staff are terrific, very helpful, and go above and beyond. Highly recommended spot.
Loved the art deco style, spacious rooms, comfortable bedding, lovely linen, quiet location. Complimentary light breakfast was a bonus.
The room certainly reflected the Art-Deco of the Nurses Quarters and would stay here again.”
We stayed at the Art-Deco Nurses Quarters located away from the main hotel which was only a 5-minute walk to the main hotel, restaurant, and bar. We had a Queen size room which beautifully reflected the Art-Deco, air con was great and the bathroom was of a good size and very clean. The grounds and gardens were beautiful, Service was excellent. The bar area was small, has a good selection of wines/spirits however a very small selection of draught beer, Breakfast was very simple toast with spreads, breakfast cereal coffee/tea only. Not sure about the restaurant.
Clean and comfy”
Pros- clean, tidy and comfy rooms with good heating. Beautiful gardens and buildings, perfect distance from main town. Cons- common areas need some extra love, great idea with the Art Deco theme but needs some tidying up to make it really cool. Same goes for the guest rooms, a little too modern for the Art Deco theme I was really looking forward to.
Keen on Art Deco couple”
Interesting building to stay in. Our twin room is interestingly laid out, in fact one room each and a shared bathroom in between. Not a top notch hotel as such, but it is sufficient for a bit of the local history insight.
Lovely accommodation..However no email to advise I staff would be present on checkin.”
We will stay again as it is a lovely property. Check when booking if the restaurant is open. We were not advised of instruction for collecting room keys when no staff are present. Our phone call to the after hours number was not returned..We found the checkin information on the desk in a dark foyer. Despite this we will stay again.
Amazing value ”
Great location, beautiful building. Rooms clean, tidy and spacious! Beautiful grounds to explore, and breakfast was amazing!
