Friendly staff”
Thankyou Kareen for all your help and friendly smile. We enjoyed our stay. The breakfasts were great. Plenty of choices on the buffet table. We had a quiet room.

Lion no longer a roaring success”
location, breakfast, character
This hotel is becoming very dated. The lack of double glazing means the rooms are very noisy especially at the weekend when late night revelers can be heard outside until the early hours. Surely these days a better wifi should be available not just in the lobby. The room furnishings are looking dated now and certainly some of the beds are of poor standard compared to more modern hotels. You are also charged extra for parking. Disappointing because it could be so easily improved.

Wonderful building, but needs attention to detail”
Location, architecture, common areas
This is an authentic old hotel and it is marvellous to spend time in it. I've been before and from experience requested (and was given) a top floor room to avoid disturbance by creaking floorboards of the people above me. I think it is time for a bit of renovation - the shower has a clumsy system for hot water, double glazing would help and the pillows were not comfortable. The food is good (full English breakfast, plus we had a bar meal for dinner), but the service requires better supervision - they made small mistakes with our breakfast order on both mornings and in the evening served tables out of sequence - we had to check with the staff that they hadn't forgotten us, admittedly on a busy night.

Dickens, drwin, but no silent night”
Location, heritage, breakfast
The Lion is a beautiful old hotel in a commanding position alongside other heritage buildings in central Shrewsbury. Check-in was fast and easy, the staff were very friendly and the breakfasts were great. The wifi did work in my room although it is only advertised for public areas. However a major problem is the lack of soundproof walls and ceilings. The TV in the room next door was as clearly audible as if it had been in my room, and because of the creaking floorboards the guest in the room above me (unfortuantely an insomniac) kept me awake by continually pacing up and down from 5.15 - 7.30AM! Since the main objective of staying in a hotel is to sleep, I might not stay at The Lion again, and if I did I would request a top-floor room.

Good location”
Location was good with lots of interesting highlights within walking distance
The staff were lovely and the old character of the place was great. My room had very creaky floors, I felt sorry for anyone residing on the floor below, saying that, I did not hear anyone else. There is a lift but I still had stairs to use after the lift as floors are not all on the same level, if you have trouble with stairs make sure you request a room on the same level as lift. Only having wifi in the bar and lounge area is a nuisance. Overall I did like the place for its unique character and would stay again

Great central location in a lovely setting”
A quirky hotel with a real old-world feel. Good breakfast.
We had a lovely time. The hotel is centrally located, close to some excellent restaurants and shopping areas. Historical buildings are in abundance in the town.

Lovely relaxing break”
Great location, friendly staff, good food, pleasant and comfortable room.
We had a lovely visit. This historic hotel is in the centre of Shrewsbury and unusually - has excellent parking facilities. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was wonderful!

Reasonably comfortable.”
Location, cleanliness of the room and the service at breakfast.
Satisfactory but for the lack of greeting and information at the reception desk on arrival and in general.
