Quiet, clean, and incredibly helpful staff, this was the perfect place to stay during my first visit to Beijing!

Terrific with genuine Chinese style”
This place is terrific for anyone looking to see traditional China. It is in a genuine "hutong" or alley that is part of a network of hutongs that any guest here should wander through. The accommodation is clean, well appointed, well heated, with suitable bathroom/shower facilities. This is not elegance nor large rooms. It is comfortable, functional accommodation in a traditional courtyard. In the past, these courtyards were shared living space for a whole community, with each person/family/couple getting a room that surrounded a courtyard where cooking and open-air showering took place. This place retains the traditional feel of living around a shared courtyard but with the conveniences of modern accommodation. Everything here is comfortable and up to standard, but it is not meant to be 5* style. Rooms are somewhat small. Go there if you'd like to sense an older China and wander the hutongs. Subway is very close. Staff speak English and are very helpful. PS - I lived in China 4.5 years, first visited there in 1994, and stayed in about 80 hotels there. This was one of my most pleasant accommodations, but I prefer environment more than room service and luxury surroundings.
Great local experience”
This is in a local Hutong so you get a real China experience. The place is a nice little refuge from the fast pace of Beijing. It is an interesting area of Beijing a 30 minute walk to Beijing Park which I highly suggest visiting early in the morning to avoid the tourist rush. The Hutong is just around the corner from subway line 4 (5 minute walk) . I had a view room which look out into the court yard. This is a courtyard hotel not a grand western style hotel so be prepared for a relaxing non corporate experience. I caught a taxi from Beijing West station which cost 25 RMB, take the address in Chinese from Agoda otherwise taxi driver will have a hard time finding it. When you get to the Hutong show the address to someone living in the Hutong and they will show you where to go, look for red lanterns. Staff very friendly and rooms clean. I'll stay here again so the family can have a courtyard experience. Most guests are Chinese.
The perfect courtyard hotel!”
I enjoyed it very much! The courtyard ist simply perfect! Very relaxing atmosphere and very helpful staff. If you want yo stay in a typical courtyard hotel - that's the one! Very clean rooms with comfortable beds.
Great value ”
We stayed for 4 nights and it was a great experience overall. Really warm affable staff (we could speak Mandarin so not sure about their command of English), the rooms were clean, the heating was good, and it's close to Xi Si subway as well.
Very unique experience”
Not so comfortable at the beginning as the room is considered a bit small for family staying. But felt better and better after 4 days staying. We like the courtyard very much.
Great stay close to everything!”
We loved our stay here! The rooms are a Little small, but the nice courtyard, helpful staff and great Location makes up for all that! Try the noodle soup for breakfast and book a tour to the Great Wall!
value for money.”
Little gem in a Beijing Hutong”
Our stay at the Liuhe Courtyard was very pleasant. First of all, they came to the airport to pick us up for free. That is very helpful in the huge Beijing, especially for first timers. The hotel is situated in a very authentic Beijing hutong (not the renewed ones in the West of Beijing) far away from the hassle and noise from the city. It is only 5-min walk from the subway, which is very convenient. The courtyard is very nice and it offers great moments of peace after a day of sightseeing. The rooms are basic but clean and confortable. Breakfast is okay, especially the Chinese noodles. Staff is attentive and speaks English decently. Plus, the owners are fair people. We hired the day trip to the Great Wall (Mutianyu) that is advertised at the hotel. Although all expenses were supposed to be included (transportation, entrance to the wall, and lunch), the tour company -which has nothing to do with the hotel- did not tell that there are another extra 80 RMB to take the cable car and that drinks are not included . After explaining this to the hotel, they kindly reimbursed us this money. We really appreciated their kindness and fairness. In conclusion, we greatly recommend this hotel to anyone willing to experience a real hutong experience in Beijing!
Homely, warm and great cultural experience”
Great local experience as the courtyard is located in the midst of the local residential area. Breakfast was served in the courtyard was really a wonderful diffefent experience. Staff was friendly. Only downside was it is hard to find but still within walking distance to subway.
nice place, helpful staffs”
It was fantastic and we had lots of fun here. The room is big enough for both of us. The breakfast was good as well. The best thing for us was that the staff was really helpful and friendly. She was willing to guide us around and showed us the tips to complete the memorable journey.
authentic house, friendly received”
very pleasant, recommendable
Comfortable, nice garden and quiet place”
We have a wonderful and comfortable stay at this hotel. She (the owner of this courtyard) is very kind and nice person. She cooked great breakfast for us and provide a very good service during our stay. We definitely will stay again if we visit Beijing again in future.
It was a great experience living in a traditional hutong hotel where you can walk in and out of the neighbourhood to explore the interesting livelihood of the people staying there. The best thing about it is it's far away from the city, a very rustic environment to take a break away from the bustling city. However, do be cautious about the following: (1) Water pressure of toilets are low so the flushing system might not be very satisfying. (2) Breakfast is simply bread and butter. Self service. (3) Not sure what time the receptionist comes to work but if you've got an early flight to catch, do inform him/her the night before that you're checking out early because our reception was late and we were rushing off to somewhere else in the morning. Otherwise, do check if you are able to just drop the key off the reception.
culture feel, friendly staff and good service”
at first we thought this hotel is not suitable for us but once u get along with it , you will get familiar. we have to walk about 100m to this hotel as bus cannot reach that place. but we all very enjoy it. we have a wonderful days at beijing. staff at this hotel is very friendly and flexible. i think we wont find other hotel better than this.
The staff were lovely, the hotel was in a hutong and the price was reasonable. The rooms were very attractive, if small. The downside was the noise. The bedrooms had no adequate sound-proofing (you could hear the people next door using the bathroom) and, although it was lovely that the rooms looked out onto a courtyard, you could clearly hear people outside. I was very unlucky because I got a particularly noisy group of people as neighbours, which resulted in very little sleep. There are only eight rooms. The best thing would be to go with a large party, book all of them and then party (or not!) as much as you like. Take ear plugs! (Also, water pressure is very low but that is a minor concern).
Nice hotel in satisfactory location”
Liuhe Courtyard is a nice boutique hotel in the old-style hutong area of Beijing. While the hotel and rooms themselves are a good size, comfortable and very clean, the location leaves something to be desired. The lanes immediately surrounding the hotel are quite dirty and unappealing, and one must take subway/cab to any local bars/restaurants/shops. All sightseeing in the old city is also too far to be walking distance. Only one staff member spoke English, but was incredibly helpful and friendly. Could be a good option and great value for someone who speaks Chinese that wouldn't be intimidated/put-off by location and having to navigate on own, but not an ideal hotel for a first-time visitor to Beijing/China.
Relaxing, peaceful and cultural.”
Amazing! I 100% recommend staying at the Liuhe Courtyard Hotel. I stay there everytime I go to Beijing!
