"Fox & Firefly Cottages felt like an oasis from the hustle and bustle of more touristy areas. At this point in the trip, we had experienced the beaches of the Philippines. We wanted to move inland and experience something off the beaten path. Fox & Firefly Cottages offered just that. Situated right next to the Loboc River and down a dirt path road, we were greeted by staff of the cottages with warm and friendly smiles. They showed us around the premises, pointing out the onsite restaurant (food is wonderful), open air bathroom and showers (beautifully decorated with native plants and one of my favorite parts about this place), and our cottage. We read books in our hammock on the front porch, wrote in our journals while enjoying coffee at the restaurant, and watched the stars on the dock. We enjoyed the night time firefly SUP tour. This was our first time paddle boarding and we did just fine! The tour is peaceful and a unique experience. Being able to rent scooters onsite was a bonus! We really appreciate the hospitality we were shown and highly recommend this place for future visitors. "

"We stayed three nights and would really liked to have stayed longer, but they were unfortunately fully booked. The owner Christian, his wife and children are super helpful, friendly and funny. All our questions were answered before we even asked. They even took us with them to their family New Year's Eve party and drove us for free to the next hostel in his private car where we stayed for the last night. Rooms are simple but spacious and you have everything you need. We shared our bathroom with one other room, which was totally fine. You can rent a motorbike there for 350,-/day. Breakfast was great and and costs only 100,- They have a terrace with tables and chairs, free coffee, tea and drinking water and they offer a few snacks to buy. To sum up, it was one of the best stays we had in the Philippines and the best host family ever. Looking forward to come back!"

"Loboc River Resort is a wonderfully, small, intimate new resort right on the calming green waters of the Loboc River. We booked for two and ended up spending 5 days at this great place. We stayed as we loved the owner, staff and found interesting and unusual things to do. Bohol is famous for its Chocolate Hills and Tarsiers. We enjoyed those tourist things, but loved four unusual things as well. Across the river from the lodge (it costs 5 pesos to be rowed across) is a wonderful small paved road that goes through small communities and ends three km later in Loboc. It was fun and gorgeous and much of it shaded. We also had the privilege to attend performances by the local Children's choir and the Band. Both have won international competitions and well deserved fame. They were a treat beyond words. We also visited (and had almost completely to ourselves) a nearby 10,000 hectare protected landscape/national park (Rajah Sikatuna NP). The guided trek was wonderful. Finally, the gracious owner, Zynn, took us on a personal tour of her place and we had a chance to watch fish being harvested, feed monkeys, and taste plants in their organic gardens. Zynn also brought us some of the best mangoes we have eaten in our lives which the kitchen staff cut up and served to us. Her husband also played music for us and personally took us to town to listen to the youth band. Others have written about the gorgeous views, great food, free firefly tour, etc. Loved this home away from home!"

"Pros--Everyone complains about the stairs, but you've been amplty warned about it by other reviewers, and their official website. I liked the remoteness because it really is secluded. As their website says, if you can't handle the stairs, it says something about your physical condition. I'd recommend to go to Nuts Huts if you're a backpacker and don't mind trekking. Once you've reached that far, the entire area is amazing, both during the day and at night. We had a few Toray geckos crawling around in our hut which was cool. The main lounge is very nice with amazing, well balanced food. The staff are very helpful with local info. They do their best to accommodate you, despite the remote location. Lots of hiking options around the area as well. Cons--The one downside for me were the noisy river cruises, disrupting the tranquility of the jungle. However, they only operate during the daytime, so if you're out sightseeing, you'll miss them completely. "
